Interesting that they're having to drag Peter Bone out again to do the interview round for lack of anyone else to defend this government. We've been spared his particular brand of idiocy since Johnson was struggling to find people willing to go out and defend him. Is Sunak having problems finding support internally?

I do hope it is Fabricant tomorrow.

Oh dear, they’re really struggling if they’ve had to dig Bone up again.

"She told BBC Breakfast that police "have the numbers" - and "this is about ensuring that those resources are properly diverted to what I call common-sense policing - back to basics policing"."

Ugh. Diverted from what? I bet somewhere she's started going on about "woke EDI initiatives"

She said on GMB that police shouldn't be at a and e with "MH patients" that's for the nhs and they should be out doing community work attending crimes.

When asked if when someone reports a crime and they aren't getting a policeman/ woman attend can they demand it saying the HS said they have to?

She didn't answer that but did keep repeating they've now got the highest number of police officers we've ever had (I don't know this but imagine it's a twisted stat because of those on apprenticeships or something) and so there is no reason they can't attend.

She also wouldn't answer what if the nhs that is so woefully understaffed cannot provide someone to release the police man/woman to do this.

She just seems to think by saying what she thinks people want to hear is good enough and if it doesn't happen that isn't the governments fault.

🤣

WHY do we have to have this stupid, stupid person as Home Secretary? I feel so sorry for people working in the Home Office having to contend with someone so lacking in basic understanding of her job.

Can't say too much but her actions aren't always particularly - shall we say nice and fair -She wants headlines not fair justice.

you'll be hearing ministers claim this week that crime has fallen 50% since 2010

in reality the stats they use ignore "fraud and computer misuse offences"

when you include these (see graphic below) it's a whole different story

They did that last year with the crime stats didn’t they?

I’m debating internally when Suella is going to call on people to perform citizens arrests and increase public powers of defence and restraints 🤔 there’s a core of her voters that would wet themselves with excitement at that.

DuncinToffee · 28/08/2023 17:52

Yes, they have been fudging the crime stats for a while now, just a timely reminder for crime week Smile

Fortunately A&E departments aren’t busy places so the staff have lots of time on their hands to manage this and free up police officers.

Not long before schools are told to deal with it. We already do mental health and assaults , gangs and knife crime. A bit of theft on the side when not teaching maths to, like, everyone? Piece of cake.

Notonthestairs · 28/08/2023 18:12

In April Police federation said the 23000 recruited officers was effectively back filing posts cut in 2010.
They said they needed 50,000 new officers to meet attrition rates.

But I doubt the Police Federation know much about such things.

DuncinToffee · 28/08/2023 18:22

Braverman will just claim that, like the Fire Brigade union, they are Labour affiliated.

No more experts

And the stolen pieces we can report to the police.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/08/2023 19:59

I don’t suppose the police will do much if I phone them and tell them someone is stealing my tax £s and misusing it.

Happy 1st day of ULEZ expansion everyone. Here’s hoping this stops everyone ranting about it.

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2023 09:35

I was annoyed when they interviewed a woman on the BBC this morning without intervening to ask her what vehicle she drives.

Notonthestairs · 29/08/2023 09:43

Seems like the Government's hard work over the summer has made little in roads.

"A YouGov poll for The Times asked voters which party they thought would be better at handling various problems affecting the country. The poll shows that Labour is ahead on issues the Conservatives have traditionally dominated at elections, including immigration, law and order, and tax."

"The poll tested voters’ reactions on ten policy areas to determine which party they trusted most with issues that could decide the election. In total Labour was more trusted across nine of the ten questions polled and the Conservatives were ahead only on the issue of defence and security."

Have we had "Stop the taxes" week yet?

Notonthestairs · 29/08/2023 10:17

They need to leave something for the manifesto.

That said there is a section of the Conservatives that are permanently on Stop the Taxes/Public Services.

DuncinToffee · 29/08/2023 10:35

They stopped the planes

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/08/2023 11:04

I think that might have been the French that stopped the planes.

countrygirl99 · 29/08/2023 11:11

Wasn't the French yesterday
