"Every theft must be investigated"
Does she have any idea how many thefts get reported? There aren't enough police officers to investigate men using CSA images, but hey ho.

Honestly. This lot live in cloud cuckoo land

Police with their backs to camera

Every theft must be investigated, home secretary tells police

The home secretary says she wants to see a radical change in the way police tackle lower-level crimes.

"She told BBC Breakfast that police "have the numbers" - and "this is about ensuring that those resources are properly diverted to what I call common-sense policing - back to basics policing"."

Ugh. Diverted from what? I bet somewhere she's started going on about "woke EDI initiatives"

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/08/2023 09:12

They also seem to have forgotten they have been in government for 13 years again. The Home Sec making big announcements about how police are going to start investigating crime isn’t the positive they think it is.

DuncinToffee · 28/08/2023 09:15

That was a car crash for Braverman, like Sunak just rinse and repeat nonsense statements.

Stopping her illegal actions is now thwarthing justice, you can't make it up.

I’ve just seen that and discovered that I’m still capable of outrage. 🤬

There is a thread on Braverman active, good thing I am going out.

I might pop over and fry their brains by asking if the Home Secretary thinks that other law breakers like Rishi Sunak should be locked up.

BIossomtoes · 28/08/2023 10:15

Too late. It’s gone pop.

Notonthestairs · 28/08/2023 10:18

Yes it looks like crime & punishment week.

We have 3,500 more police officers than in 2010 - despite a population increase.

The increase in recruitment is not spread evenly over the country and only a few police forces hit their recruitment targets. So we don't necessarily have all the officers we need where we need them.

Also - we've managed to more than half the number of PCSO's (ie those officers that focus on low level crime) from 16,918 to 8,263.

Special constsbles have dropped from 20,000 to 8,000.

And that's before we get in to the vast court backlog and terrible state of the court and prison systems generally.

Once again it's headlines over concrete actions.

I was just reading through and then found I couldn't post. I didn't see anything particularly worthy of shutting it down, did I miss the good stuff?

DuncinToffee · 28/08/2023 11:56

I don't think it got to the good stuff but the build up was there

She doesn't want police being diverted into dealing with things like people having a mental health crisis, I think that's what she said. So they'll respond if someone nicks your mower but not if your teenager is having a complete mental breakdown and threatening to harm themselves.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/08/2023 12:59

Tbf, it’s a right PITA when you get home to find your house has been stolen.

I mean, yeah , I found the police useless when some old guy attached balloons to my house and made off with it.

DuncinToffee · 28/08/2023 13:32

'stop the balloons'

Someone put mine on a boat and tried to float it down the stream. Not enough water was quite effective at Stop the Boat.

Perhaps we could learn from this and drain the Channel?

I believe in a fair and free society where justice is on the side of the victims, not the criminals.

From Sunak’s Twitter thread on crime.

I have some questions, Rishi. Does this apply to corruption or just certain types of crime?

He says that like it's some sort of novelty. No-one sane believes in anything else. What he is trying to signal, however, is that he's not too happy with people accused of crimes receiving a fair trial.

He might also help victims out a bit by funding the justice system adequately so that they don't have to wait years for cases to come to trial.

So now the failed lawyer claims to know more about policing than, er, the police?

WHY do we have to have this stupid, stupid person as Home Secretary? I feel so sorry for people working in the Home Office having to contend with someone so lacking in basic understanding of her job.
