Dories is tweeting she has a new job

Dear Nadine

I am writing to confirm that the Chancellor of the Exchequer has this morning appointed you to be Steward and Bailiff of the Three Hundreds of Chiltern.

Your appointment continues until determined by a subsequent appointment to this Stewardship.

They stopped the planes

According to the Daily Mail that's France's fault. Which begs the question , why do we have a system that can be brought to its knees in an instant by a foreign power?

jgw1 · 29/08/2023 10:13

Have we had "Stop the taxes" week yet?

Didn’t Truss do that week? Hope they’ve learned it doesn’t take a whole week…

Notonthestairs · 29/08/2023 15:34

Christ they are pathetic. Blaming an "incorrectly filed French form" before conducting a review.
Of course they cant actually blame the French form because the idea that we'd have a system that collapses after an incorrect form would be completely ridiculous.

countrygirl99 · 29/08/2023 15:39

Do they not realise that that excuse is utterly pathetic and makes out system sound like it's run by a bunch of fuckwits?

Happy 1st day of ULEZ expansion everyone. Here’s hoping this stops everyone ranting about it.

All I've heard on BBC news reports today is "Rishi Sunak says the expansion will hit working families hardest while Sadiq Khan says it is necessary to reduce deaths from air pollution". Completely neglecting to mention THE CONSERVATIVES are in power and Grant Shapps as transport Secretary demanded this.
It's making me so cross

DuncinToffee · 29/08/2023 16:11

I am sure when ULEZ turns out to be a success, they will be first to claim it as a Tory victory.

Whar a surprise

Housebuilders have now risen to the top of the FTSE100 following the announcement they no longer have to pay for the pollution they cause.

Barratt Developments' share price up 3.43% this morning company now valued at £4.34bn and Taylor Wimpey up 2.88% company valued at £3.97bn.

This is why I voted to leave the EU.

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2023 16:39

I was diverted by a question on Only Connect last night on mergers. In 1940, the beloved Churchill apparently proposed a merger of the UK and France!

I voted to leave because the EU forced us to change the name of a Marathon to Snickers.

I saw that and it made me laugh

Given I have just got off a train owned by the French government and then paid my electric bill to the French government, I am not sure it hasn't already happened?

Or that the government was the one responsible for plunging millions of families into poverty in the first place.

bit late to be worrying about the cost of living now, I’d have thought.

"In a report submitted to the UN, the EHRC said some of the recommendations made by the 2016 inquiry had not been delivered."

Says it all really.
A point of real shame.

Too cowardly to even turn up for an update.

The Conservatives prefer to put the energies in to feeding wedge issues and keeping the donors (property developers/private health care) onside.

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/08/2023 23:13

Labour has bounced Tory ministers into pledging to reinstate the right of women to get equal pay with men for doing the same job - even if they work in different locations or for outsourcing companies - despite recently scrapping the EU law behind this

Faisal Islam, "The government acknowledged that post Brexit checks will add to food inflation"

Lord Lilley, "By only 0.2% over three years, let's be specific"

Faisal Islam, "CPTPP would only boost the economy by 0.08% and a lot is made of that. So 0.2% is a material increase"

From a high starting point too. It’s already astronomically high with people increasingly struggling to put food on the table.

Notonthestairs · 30/08/2023 09:58

If it's only 0.2% why aren't they pushing ahead with the checks?
Why are they delaying Brexit? It's their flagship success isn't it?

I presume they are kicking the can down the road so they can trigger it just before the election & blame Labour.

Notonthestairs · 30/08/2023 20:23

RSPB England not pulling their punches-

LIARS!

@RishiSunak @michaelgove @theresecoffey you said you wouldn’t weaken environmental protections.

And yet that’s just what you are doing.

You lie, and you lie, and you lie again.

And we’ve had enough. 🧵

Brilliant!

Love the fact that people are calling them liars outright.

Anyone heard any news about the barge?

LlynTegid · 30/08/2023 20:27

@DuncinToffee Nadine Dorries new job is unpaid, it is the way that MPs resign. Arcane that they don't just resign in the normal way.

Previous holder, Boris Johnson.

Holders have included John Profumo.

LlynTegid · 30/08/2023 20:28

@jgw1 in London you might travel on a bus run by the Paris transport authority.
