We had a wild night of storms. I was woken around 4am by the sound of hail hitting the bedroom window.

I've spent the day clearing out the fridge and freezer as the promised cooler and less humid weather has arrived.

Squirrels have been digging in the potted plants on my deck so I sprinkles some coffee grounds into the pots they seem to prefer, as suggested on the internet.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/07/2023 22:01

Math, glad you made it through.
Miss, I hope the storms pass you by.

Still recovering here. Sense of smell is now out of whack. Everything smells hot. It's weird. Havoc is having epic 3 hour naps, so obviously still under the weather, but appetite is steadily improving and I am very relieved. Havoc ate bread, cheese and a boiled egg for breakfast; pasta, cheese, tomatoes, hummus and melon at lunch. I've been grazing on fruit, bread, cheese, veg and hummus as well.
It's pleasant and breezy today. I think I'll take a bath since Havoc is asleep.

Miss, you asked if I could get paxlovid etc. it's only available for high risk cases: elderly, significant immune compromised etc. Kind of frustrates me since my sense is there isn't a huge demand.

VeridicalVagabond · 29/07/2023 22:04

Oh I love threads like this.

My dull news of the day is that this morning I finally mastered over easy eggs which have been the bane of my existence forever.

Perfectly crispy with perfectly gooey yolks that finally, finally didn't burst when I flipped them. Lovely.

Silkierabbit · 29/07/2023 22:14

Hope you get better soon Havoc We can only get anti virals in severe cases too , infact I will soon be out of that category in a week as its a year from end of radiotherapy.

Been swimming and done 100 lengths, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. There was a mother appeared with screaming baby and screaming c 6 year old child combined for about 20 minutes solid and I stopped wishing mine were young again. 😂

Got back and DS has taken a bath and back to ipadding. DD has been doing punti ng tours and taken 5 today and said she had earned £250 for the day so good day for her despite the very average weather.

Been organising a SN Mumsnet meetup in Salisbury for 19 August for afternoon tea and hotel stay. Will be lovely to meet up.

whamwereace · 29/07/2023 22:22

I had the last packet of pickled onion crisps that were in my cupboard.

I did the hoovering and discovered a brush attachment I hadn't used before.

I didn't think there was space in my wheelie bin for today's rubbish but managed to squash down the other rubbish bags. It was really satisfying when I got the lid to close.

MissConductUS · 29/07/2023 23:01

Welcome, @VeridicalVagabond and @whamwereace, and thanks for sharing your news with us. And well done to you both! Your posts have perfectly captured the ethos of this thread.

The thunderstorms are still coming, but not for two or three hours, so the men are grilling burgers. We're having leftover mac & cheese and steamed local sweet corn on the cob to go with them. DD is still out with her boyfriend and doing something with him for dinner.

I'm on holiday, I walk past chalets and one has a naked woman, legs wide open, My team DD tells me she saw hair!! Another chalet has a woman sitting on her bed in just a t shirt no bottoms. My DD is convinced the first woman is doing Only Fans 🤣 no net curtains, lights on, curtains whose open

MissConductUS · 30/07/2023 00:35

Welcome, @MollysBrolly and thanks for sharing your mildly shocking holiday news. Can you share where you are spending the holiday?

Shortly after we finished dinner the thunderstorm moved through. I wish I knew where DD is.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 30/07/2023 00:36

Thanks for that squirrel tip math I've got pot diggers too.

Oh dear Molly 😂 I wouldn't know where to look.

Today I decluttered and I feel so much better for it. Then I took a moonlight walk after the rain stopped when the air smelled all fresh.

MissConductUS · 30/07/2023 01:29

DD is home now. Among other things, she and her boyfriend visited a pick your own flower farm and came home with some lovely flowers. She and her boyfriend had dinner at a local Italian restaurant. By the way, she is 21 and starts her last year at uni this fall. DS is 23 and graduated from uni last year. He has a very good job in his field and is living at home with us and saving a lot of money.

I have reconnected with Britbox. Amazon Prime was offering a promotion of two months for 99 cents per month, which was too good to pass up. I am currently watching The Tower, a police procedural. The first two episodes have been pretty good. I think I'm starting in season five. I wish I could rewatch Foyle's War. That's my all time favorite British show.

Had to run out for milk at 9:00pm... came home with milk, York peppermint patties, a large bag of plain chips and a small bag of spicy dill pickle chips. 🤦‍♀️ I don't even really like chips, either.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 30/07/2023 09:47

VeridicalVagabond those eggs sound wonderful.

My partner disappeared back to East Germany again, it's a long drive for him but his company pay for all the recharging :o It's going to be a wonderfully quiet peaceful Sunday with a friend popping round later. The children are on the screens too much but now and then it doesn't matter. I'm re-reading an old series of stories and it's been long enough that Ive forgotten most of the plot so it's really nice to go through it again.

HelenaJustina · 30/07/2023 13:52

After Mass I whizzed into the city centre with 3DC, we were looking for new school shirts but they didn’t like the ones in M&S. They did get socks and a birthday present for a friend. Plus Blackwall’s were doing 3for2 so some new books came home with us too.

It started raining on the way home which made us feel smug, and I’m now cooking a veggie chilli for a late lunch.

HelenaJustina · 30/07/2023 13:52

Blackwall’s? Blackwell’s!

morelippy · 30/07/2023 13:58

I managed to get some washing dry enough to iron and put over an airer today.

Hurray for summer.

CurlewKate · 30/07/2023 17:54

I've just made a very nice curry and my orange cat is refusing to come in out of the rain.

MissConductUS · 30/07/2023 18:19

Welcome, @CurlewKate, and apologies that I missed welcoming you after your earlier post about your pasta sauce. I am a lazy cook who buys pasta sauce in jars at the warehouse club. To be fair, it is a posh brand. Fortunately, my DH and DS do most of the cooking chez Conduct. Or we get takeaways. I also have an orange cat who can be quite headstrong and stubborn.

We went from very hot yesterday to lovely today, with a temp of 22 C. I changed the litter boxes this morning and asked the men to mow the lawn. This wasn't possible as our fairly new Honda mower stalled and wouldn't start again. DH will have to take it into the shop this week. The lawn looks a bit odd with just one tiny patch mowed, but we're not expecting visitors anytime soon.

DD went to work giving tours on the river.

Rest of us had a Sunday roast beef and yorkshire pudding dinner. Currently making a tarte tatin to have with cream. When DS was little he said can you please make the upside down sticky bottom cake.

Hoovered upstairs and living room cleaned including rabbit's things. Washing on.

Been doing accounts and got through a year of them. Need to do tax return soon but have more calculations to do for that. I have until January so no rush.

DH is on the piano.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 30/07/2023 20:00

Your DH is inspiring Silkie, I'm going to put on piano music while I clean.

Today has been all about decluttering and spring cleaning. I now have a much improved porch, landing and bathroom.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 30/07/2023 20:15

sticky bottom cake :D

Silkierabbit · 31/07/2023 00:30

Thanks Mallards I think that's the first time ever DH has influenced anyone through social media. 😂Are you also a home with ducks?

DD returned home and been chatting. Floof licked my feet then I washed them and he went under the bed and hid with his fluffy tail end sticking out.

DD told me I am very dressed up today and asked if I had meetings. Nope it was Sunday. 2 meetings tomorrow though. Getting a lot less, 3 meetings in total next week, much better.

DD and DH will see Barbie together tomorrow. DS got growly when DH suggested him and DS could see it together before so presume he won't be going.

Black bin out and hoover bag taken out.

Hope you are feeling better Havoc

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 31/07/2023 00:58

I'd love to have ducks Silkie, unfortunately it's not possible at the moment. I like to spend time by the river watching them though, so peaceful.

I ended up tidying and organising everything, cleaning lots and feel ready to start a new week. Had to catch three spiders and put them outside.

Contraversialcate · 31/07/2023 03:46

Feeding the baby which I love as it’s nice time between her and I and her sisters are asleep. Made a note on phone to freeze rolos in the morning so I can make brownies later in the morning to take to my poorly friend in the evening.

Lemonsandlemonade · 31/07/2023 08:20

Contra- I loved that early morning alone feeding with DS it was special just me and him. how old is your LO.

Hope your DD and DH enjoyed Barbie Silkie.

Made brownies last night ( your recipe MissC).

Off to see DM at Ds request then DS has play date later.

ConsistentlyPeeved · 31/07/2023 08:28

I'm currently sat in bed wit hun a coffee and watching the trees swish in the wind. I'd like to peg my washing out but don't think that will happen today.
I'll be doing a food shop later and then hopefully have some time to read my book.
I'm trying to decompress after a very busy and not calm holiday (not because anything tragic happened just because it was packed to the rafters with activities and lots of driving).

The kids are still fast asleep so I'm enjoying the peace for a little while longer.
