So many new visitors you'd think we're passing out free wine! 😀

Welcome, @whyisntanelephantblue, @TeamsInterview, @AlwaysTheGoodGirl and @MallardsMoorhensAndLethe and thank you all for sharing your calming, mundane and slightly exciting news. Please forgive me for not expounding further as I am three hours post gum surgery, the novocaine is wearing off and I need a bit of a lie down.

Mum, can you get one of the covid anitvirals in Canada? DH and I took them when we had covid last Christmas and they helped a lot.

ZZ, what county will you be staying in? Are you interested in historical sites, quaint villages and shopping, or scenic beauty? That will help me narrow it down. One idea off the top of my head - a visit to Mohonk Mountain House. It's a lovely place to stay if you're looking for lodging. The food is very good if you just want a meal and a wander around the gardens and grounds.

Hudson Valley New York Resort and Spa | Mohonk Mountain House

Founded by the Smiley Family in 1869, our Victorian Castle Resort is nestled in the Hudson Valley surrounded by 40,000 acres of forest and wildlife.

@MissConductUS I hope you manage to get a good nights sleep, tooth/mouth pain is awful, you can't even rub it to make it better x

Tilllly · 26/07/2023 20:00

I had a stressy work day

But now have a glass of wine and am watching Mallory towers

HelenaJustina · 26/07/2023 20:29

Poor you Miss hope it feels better soon. And ditto Havoc you are having no luck with health this summer!

Had an unexpectedly lovely day today, a quick trip to meet my Mum with all 4DC ended up involving 5 nephews and one of my sisters as well. Toy buying, ice cream eating, impromptu picnics, new books, a new playground and baby snuggles. Doesn’t get much better really. Got soaking on my run this evening though…

Silkierabbit · 26/07/2023 21:56

Very happy to report I just got a reply from Prok she is OK. I sent her a link so hopefully she will join us again shortly if she is up to it.

Just been swimming, steam room and jacuzzi and met a lady there who did not stop talking. I did 66 lengths as it was getting late but lovely to chat to the lady. It was a bit busy in there, school summer holidays combined with rain I guess.

I hope you start feeling better soon Havoc

Welcome to the newbies. Its such a lovely thread.

C1239 · 26/07/2023 22:27

This is a lovely thread!

halfpasteleven · 26/07/2023 23:02

It's lovely to read your good news re Prok @Silkie.
I got good news re an MRI scan today so am happy about that.

Hope you feel better soon @Mumtobabyhavoc - I'm sorry that Covid is lingering for you. Baby havoc sounds like such a cutie.

It poured rain all day long today. Tomorrow is promised drier and I'm looking forward to that.

mathanxiety · 26/07/2023 23:04

Hope you'll feel better soon, MissC.

Waves to all on the thread Smile

Our predicted hot and humid weather has arrived and Dcat is wilting. Well, we all are, but she is equipped with a gorgeous fluffy coat of fur that is perfectly adapted for winters in her native Siberia. She is lying on her back on the tiled bathroom floor with her paws in the air and tail akimbo.

I lost my Costco card at the beginning of the year (I'm sure I binned it by accident) and had been using DS's card without problems, but I heard Costco was cracking down on non-named-users so decided to call their customer service number to see if my membership was still valid and also to see if I can get a new card. The answer was Yes to both questions, so I will go and get a mugshot tomorrow when today's severe thunderstorms will have passed on.

Relieved to hear Prok is ok.

Lovely photos! I can't figure out how to post a photo on my phone.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 26/07/2023 23:41

Phew, am I glad to be back on this thread! Really enjoying hearing about gardens, euphoria at finding grey zipper and all the lovely parts of days. Thanks everyone! Today was a busy day of family, happy and overexciting for me,to the point of nearly crying with dysregulation. I enjoyed unwinding from it by making sourdough toast and taking an age to cook it properly under the grill. It took a bit of tending and turning to get it golden. I spent ages carefully buttering each piece then I slowly made a cup of tea, brewed for a few minutes, poured into a cup that was pre heated with a rinse of freshly boiled water and the best Scottish tea. Folded some washing, that was enjoyable in a boring but reassuring way. Into bed watching rubbish and listening to heavy cat breathing.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 27/07/2023 09:47

Got a load of washing on. Now drinking hot chocolate in bed while I wait for my parcel to arrive. Its makeup and skincare.

HelenaJustina · 27/07/2023 12:55

Great self care Barbie

Been to Mass this morning, chosen new glasses with DC2 and now off to do a food shop. DC1 may come along for the ride. Catching up on the Archers omnibus from Sunday while I wait for them to get ready.

Zippedydodah · 27/07/2023 13:09

Beautifully boring days here, DH has gone on a long walk with the dog, I’ve tidied around and cooked a stir fry and messed around with my watercolour painting of pebbles.
It’s very quiet outside apart from sparrows squabbling on the feeder whilst feeding their offspring.
Absolutely nothing planned for the next week 😊

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 27/07/2023 13:32

@MallardsMoorhensAndLethe what a wonderful name!

Peaceful day here, just picked up the Mischief from childcare. It was a good day, no reports of trouble from the lovely staff. He isn't neurotypical and struggles a bit with social skills, but apparently today he was sitting and chatting and colouring for a couple of hours.

Have to take our lame duck to the vet to check his leg's progress. Not really looking forward to it as his leg still isn't better after 7 weeks and last time I spoke to the vet's assistant on the phone there were mutterings about "considering the quality of his life".

sproutsandparsnips · 27/07/2023 13:52

Here's hoping Mumtobabyhavoc and Miss feel better soon.
Fantastic news about Prok, I have been thinking about her - thank you for the news Silkie.
I am attempting to dry the last washing load before we go away. All packed. Now to load up some books on my kindle. Does anyone have any recommendations?

MissConductUS · 27/07/2023 14:04

Welcome, @C1239 and any other newcomers I might have missed. It's good to see you on the new thread @ReleaseTheDucksOfWar.

Barbie, your sourdough toast sounds fab. Are you in Scotland or do you just like Scottish tea?

Silkie, that's great news about Prok. Let her know we are all thinking of her.

I fell asleep last night without too much trouble but had to get up very early to take some Ibuprofen for my gums. It's not too bad with the pain reliever.

I'm working from home today. There's no compelling reason for me to go in, the detours around the storm damage are all still in place, and we're expecting thunderstorms this afternoon. I think I'm still a bit worn out from the surgery yesterday.

The heat hasn't been as bad here as other places in the US, but it's still expected to get up to 35C today.

Have a wonderful holiday Sprouts

Annual review date for EHCP through today at 11 August and reports sent through. Cahms call done and they will send update report.

Washing bedding and swimming stuff.

Glad MRI was good Half

Hope ducky is Ok Ducks

strongcupofTea · 27/07/2023 18:20

My husbands on keto and has asked for cauliflower cheese for dinner so I'm having to adjust my recipe. Cauliflower is currently in the microwave and I'm going to attempt to make it without the flour. Using cream instead to make it thicker.
I also went to savers today and bought razors and hair mask.
Is that mundane enough for you 🤣🤣

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 27/07/2023 19:52

Thanks @ReleaseTheDucksOfWar . I hope the vet visit wasn't bad news 🦆

My parcels came. I still haven't had time to look through them or the catalogue, maybe tomorrow. Gathered up donations for a local animal sanctuary this afternoon. They were very happy. Dropped a parcel at the post office too.

TeamsInterview · 27/07/2023 20:16

Yay , I got the job!

Silkierabbit · 27/07/2023 20:29

Congrats Teams

I am just watching Happiness for Beginners on Netflix, its good. We are about to have salmon, new potatoes and broccoli for dinner. Floof is just trilling and DH is just stroking him. DH carried Floof today and said how is my baby? 😻

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 27/07/2023 21:58

congrats @TeamsInterview !

Duckie is slowly improving, and no need to put him to sleep thankfully. Turns out that medicating a duck is guesswork as anti-inflammatories are measured and tested on dogs, cats and other mammals, rather than on birds so the amount is often guesswork. We will just have to keep pouring the duck version of ibuprofen down his protesting beak.

@Silkierabbit I really hope that CAHMS or some other body can help you. Read your updates with considerable admiration for your determination and endurance. My two are both ND. It brings a lot of challenges doesn't it, trying to get things organised in a way that improves their lives.

When I was doing keto, I just melted grated cheese into cream for the sauce. It was fine.

MissConductUS · 27/07/2023 23:59

Welcome, @strongcupofTea, @Zippedydodah , and anyone else I may have missed, and thanks for sharing your calming news

Teams, terrific news about the job. Congratulations!

Ducks, that's good news about Duckie. I took our older cat (not the tawny beast in the deck pictures) to the vet today for her six-month checkup. She's 13, so she goes twice a year. It went well until they tried to trim her claws. The vet said she'd prescribe a sedative to give her before the next visit.

I had back-to-back video meetings all day. We've just had a takeaway for dinner. I ordered lobster rolls, ate one, and saved the other for lunch tomorrow.
