Good word, Sue! Intransigent... how often do you get to use that one! 🤓
Silkie, I made a red velvet for my mum's birthday last year. Love it, but I tend to like most cakes...😛😊 Closet is a success!!! I feel like a pro now!!! 😁
Sprouts, super easy. Chicken thighs, s&p, garlic powder. Bake uncovered at 425f about 35 mins; toss veg in evoo with same seasoning and put on top of chicken last 5 mins or so. Also had left-over potatoes in butter and evoo with sour cream.

Took Havoc to gymnastics this morning then decided to go to Ikea in Richmond... went straight to restaurant as was suddenly very hungry and feeling faint. Thirty minutes to get through line (holiday today) with only two cashiers. Still felt off after eating (Swedish meatballs, of course!), but shopped a bit (didn't buy anything). Starting feeling sick, so went to car (Havoc broke a bowl on our way out 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️) Ate some chocolate in car, sat for a bit then drove home. At home decided to test glucose as still have meter etc from last pregnancy (was gestational). Glucose was low, 4.4. Ate berries, piece of panettone and and drank sone string tea. Re-tested 7.3. Looks like I'm likely gestational again. Have script to book glucose test at lab, so will do so. I'm 6m1week and symptoms like this started a few weeks ago... I don't have much of an appetite, like last time, so I guess I'll need to make sure I'm eating/snacking every 2-3 hrs again. 🤷‍♀️

Bizzey, snoring can signal sleep apnea. Has your mum been checked? Own bed is almost always best (except Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas! When I called housekeeping for extra pillows was asked, Would you like down, feather or foam, Ma'am?💖💖💖)

I'm no pro, but this was the cake (I didn't add the dye)👇

Congratulations on your pregnancy Havoc is your due date close to Christmas then? How lovely to be having a sibling for Havoc. The cake looks great.

sproutsandparsnips · 03/10/2023 12:45

That cake looks amazing Mum and congratulations!
DS2 decided to make 'red velvet and raspberry biscuits' after school yesterday before DH and I got home. I'm not sure about them tbh but of course was very enthusiastic to his face.
Just had a letter inviting us to DS1 prizegiving from his old school, so that will be nice.
Sympathies Bizzey my DH can't half snore and I have to go on holiday with him every time!

MissConductUS · 03/10/2023 14:08

Congratulations, Havoc, that's fabulous news. Both of my kids and DH were born around Christmas, which is lovely but hectic.

I'm back to the daily grind again. The fog on the reservoir this morning was worthy of the Big Smoke.

Good morning.😊
Thank you for the kind words. I've been quiet about it as I has a mc in Feb, so have been on edge and, probably overly cautious and paranoid. Will be having a c-section
due to risks and is booked for Dec 28.
Have tossed and turned all night with about 5 hrs broken sleep. 🤷‍♀️
Worked on Havoc's room last night mostly sorting clothes outgrown. Definitely don't need to buy anything new either!🤦‍♀️
Lots more laundry to do today.
Planning to take Havoc to pre-school first as have missed first two weeks due to being so busy with flooring, etc.
Cake was easy and icing was 50/50 cream cheese to butter with icing sugar and vanilla to taste.
Thanksgiving is this coming weekend and I'm mulling over dinner menu...🤔😛

Miss, very nice pic!
Sprouts, I'm intrigued by the biscuits!

Hope everyone is having a good day. 😊

Got it one Sue!

HelenaJustina · 04/10/2023 06:25

Congratulations Havoc what wonderful news to wake up to on a Wednesday!

Silkierabbit · 04/10/2023 11:56

Congrats to your DS1 Sprouts

So sorry to hear about your miscarriage Havoc sending love.

Impressive fog MissC

One of the kitchen guys is here today not sure if one of his son is here too. I heard I hate teachers and schools. DS will relate. 😎 Said will do half a day then come back when tiler will come but no date for tiler. He said we would be able to use all cupboards after today though we will see. They are insisting on the one tiler but there are so few tiles I really just want any tiler and get it finished. And all their tools to go or at least the one small room jammed with them. I said it was fine to leave their tools here but that was when they said 2 weeks from last week of August. They are lovely guys though and doing great quality work.

Dentist today at 4pm, only 3 months since last one but teeth are high risk after chemo and on Tamoxifen. Dentist is lovely though.

DD is at school. DS gaming. More garden around house cleared last night and bins out yesterday.

MissConductUS · 04/10/2023 19:42

Silkie, there's always one contractor that holds up the project. Were you not able to use the cabinets before today?

We're having odd weather, was chilly this morning and it's now 29C outside. The fog was even thicker this morning. I did spot the heron from a distance.

Kitchen guy and son did half a days kitchen work and said they will be back tomorrow with a third guy but no sign of tiler. Though hopefully will all be done tomorrow except tiling. Not sure what they did exactly today but glass went in the glass cupboards and drawers got painted again where had been adjusted for handles.

We just had tomato soup with bread and butter for lunch as no access to kitchen but I like that anyway and having steak fajitas for dinner.

Been to dentist for check up, he gave me a head and neck check for cancer and said seemed fine to him.

Hope everything is OK @Lemonsandlemonade

Lemonsandlemonade · 04/10/2023 20:08

Hi Silkie I am ok. Had tooth extracted on Friday and have been in pain ever since. Am on antibiotics. DS had a cold. I’m tired and a bit fed up . Work is crazy too. Thanks for asking.

Glad your scan went ok hope your tiler turns up soon and you get your kitchen back. How is your DS doing?

Miss C we are due warm weather at weekend 22/24 C and sunny. Fingers crossed.

Lovely news Havoc.

Have started Christmas shopping.

Anybody know how Prok is?

Silkierabbit · 04/10/2023 20:38

Hope the antibiotics do their work soon Lemons and you feel better soon.

I've not messaged Prok recently, I know she struggles to use her hands so its a balance between wanting to know and not wanting to put her in pain. I can try again soon.

Kitchen shouldn't be too long now then the outside of house work starts mid October but that's easier for us as its outside. Looks great what they did today.

DS is eating and drinking well, gaming and sleeping OK but still no speech, no writing except for on his ipad for his gaming, normally calm but won't leave house and doesn't like people in same room as him. The school also have not put him on roll. Still haircut refusing and refusing to clean teeth apart from water. Though he is bathing OK and is fine with us going out for day. He really hates the specialist teacher cahms has and I've had to put a stop to her for the moment. Kitchen work he has tolerated very well. He keeps the books and the school stuff in his bed.

whyyy321 · 04/10/2023 20:47

Congrats @Mumtobabyhavoc , lovely news! I am not sure how old havoc is, but is he old enough to sort of understand and be excited?

Must be a relief to almost have the kitchen done, @Silkierabbit . I'd definitely be keen to use any tiler too!

Hope you feel better soon, @Lemonsandlemonade , so tricky being poorly with a little one around.

How is it only Wednesday? Just had spring rolls and samosas for tea, it's that kind of week. Still, gives the evening a sort of party vibe maybe? Haha. This week I'm finishing up on a placement before moving to my next one, so the team took me out for lunch which was Lebanese and very tasty. This morning I finally realised why I've never been given a free coffee from m&s - I'd forgotten to add that offer to my sparks card! I've definitely spent more on coffee there than I could ever earn back in free coffees, oh dear. Cold and rainy here, thinking about going to bed early as DS has forgotten how to sleep again.

MissConductUS · 04/10/2023 21:07

Lemons, I hate having a tooth pulled. It'll be sore for a bit from the bone swelling. The ABs are purely to prevent infection, so they won't make you feel better. Ibuprofen is your best bet here.

I'm sneezing and have a runny nose. All of the rain and warm temperatures have led to an increase in pollen counts. My spring allergies are back in October.

It's almost time to go home, thank goodness. DH is making pasta and meatballs for dinner. DS is very busy with work, so we don't see him often, but he comes out of his room for dinner. And ice cream.

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/10/2023 04:21

Lemons, sorry about the tooth! I've had root canals and extractions - not fun.
Silkie, contractors take forever sometimes. I think they often try and juggles a few jobs at a time. Frustrating, but glad you are satisfied with work done.
Miss, sorry you're under the weather.
Whyy, no, Havoc doesn't know/understand. There are toy babies at pre-school and I'm planning to buy one, too, to introduce Havoc to holding and mummy holding a baby.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, everyone. 💖

Silkierabbit · 05/10/2023 16:04

Lebanese sounds nice why

Hope you feel better soon Lemons and MissC and hope you are feeling Ok Havoc

Kitchen guys have not turned up today and its 4pm now so presume they aren't coming.

Done accounts and done all the figures for tax return just need to enter them.

Going swimming later. Floof poked me yesterday whilst I was eating a tomato soup and knocked it everywhere. Washed what it went on but its still stained. He's also been making a sad new noise every time DH goes to bathroom and shuts the door.

mathanxiety · 05/10/2023 18:04

MissC we had pasta and meatballs too. I used bulk Italian sausage for the meatballs and DD4 cooked penne. The sauce was tomato-vodka. We have enough to last until the weekend.

mathanxiety · 05/10/2023 18:08

Sending congratulations and best wishes to Havoc Flowers

Hope you can cross the finish line soon with the kitchen, Silkies.

MissC your photos should be in a magazine Star

MissConductUS · 05/10/2023 19:21

Math, thanks for your kind words about the photos. Most of the credit goes to living in a picturesque area and the optical zoom on my new iPhone.

DH used to make his own meatballs with ground beef, ground pork and ground veal. Now I buy the premade ones from the posh Italian grocery store and they're just as good.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/10/2023 01:48

Thanks, Math. 😊

MissConductUS · 06/10/2023 15:24

I have some news that is neither mundane or boring, but I thought I'd share it anyway. I'll start with the smaller bit first. Last night DS told us that he's fed up with the long hours at his job with the public accounting firm and will look for a new job. He's been there just over a year, so it shouldn't look too odd on his CV, and there's always a lot of turnover in those jobs.

The bigger bit is yesterday DH got a call from DD's long-term boyfriend, asking for his permission to propose marriage to her. They are the same age, both in their last year at uni, and have been a couple for four or five years. DH told him he certainly had no objection but wanted to discuss it with me. He's a very nice young man with a bright future. He's applying to graduate schools in Boston for a master's degree program in computer science that would start next fall. Presumably, DD would move to Boston with him and get a job there after they get engaged. We have no idea when they would actually get married.

I'm still a bit gobsmacked. He's from a good family, very bright and personable and I think they would be very happy together. At the same time, she's just 22 and this is the only serious relationship she's ever had. But that doesn't seem like a good reason not to do this if it's something she really wants. She's a very headstrong focused young woman, so she will do as she wants.

Silkierabbit · 06/10/2023 15:41

I think looking for a new job after a year is fine MissC especially for those recently graduated. Congrats to your DD, that's wonderful news.

Went swimming yesterday and got tax return in, not sure I had to do one but would rather have it in. I also updated all my accounts as well so it was useful if a little boring.

Today 2 men came to do something with the electrics from the electricity company to make their bit safer after they installed a smartmeter last time. They both spent about 20 minutes asking questions about Floof, how much does a Floof cost, does he go outside, where are they from originally, how do you spell Maine Coon, is he a Maine Coon, he's big isn't he? You do see many of those around do you Bob. etc😂Floof was delighted with the attention and work to inspect.

DS appears to have used a tangle teaser hairbrush for first time in ages and his hair looks good now, well the part I can see from under the hoodie.

We are going tomorrow on a paddle steamer, Waverley, for a boat trip, its normally up in Scotland so we are catching in whilst its by here. I love steam trains and boats. No more news on kitchen other than they are trying for another tiler. I looked at what had been done yesterday and it looks like we could now put everything back apart from 2 small cupboards and things that need sockets so kettle, toaster, microwave, sandwich toaster. So its not too bad but I wish they would finish. We have outside of house starting in a weeks time or so and was hoping for a break though that will be outside so easier on us plus its women who do 8.30am to 3pm which is easier too. Though good luck with the weather to them.

HelenaJustina · 06/10/2023 17:44

How exciting Miss to both bits of news! I was 20 when I got married, 23 when I had DC1. And although that seems so young now, we’ve been married for 19 years and have 4 DC… when it’s right it’s right!

Good luck to DS, I think the beginning of your career should be when you suss out what really matters and motivates you. For some people that’s a salary, for others it’s making a difference, for others it’s a job they can leave behind when they walk out of the door… trying different things is so much easier in your youth!

Deathraystare · 06/10/2023 18:00

Well, this was a bit of excitement I suppose. Not wanted though!

A guy came into our Mental Health Reception asking for a certain doctor. I knew the name but could not find it o our list. At first he said he had an appointment with them regarding his wife. I asked for her name and he said nothing but was smoking at the counter (it stank!). I asked him to go outside and finish it. Also another member of staff escorted him out and said the same thing. Of course he came back in, smoking again (about three times in all). In the meantime I could not find where the doctor was and he just said "They" asked him to come here. He eventually admitted the appointment was for him and he had some beef (my words) with his treatment. Eventually I had to push the alarm button and of course help arrived very slowly. I think we should get tortoises to come and help. Even doing a three legged race they would come quicker!

He eventually left after we said they weren't here (no one else seemed to know the Dr and I may be remembering from years ago. Everyone said I should phone the police (we have no security!). Can you imagine the police howling at someone saying "Please come, someone is smoking in reception".

Rightly , they only come if a person is getting violent!
