That looks lovely Havoc. But what is evoo?
I often see our local heron on the canal, though somewhat horrified to hear it may eat ducklings!
Nice floor Miss!
Just chilling before leaving for work in a nice peaceful house. Washing is out and ironing done.
DH is off this week and is decluttering and going to the tip. Glad I'm out of that!

sueelleker · 28/09/2023 10:04

@sproutsandparsnips; EVOO is Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 28/09/2023 13:31

I started the day by sweeping up fallen leaves in the yard

MissConductUS · 28/09/2023 14:21

We are getting a few leaves coming down here too, Mallard. The color changes haven't happened yet, though I've seen reports that that is happening much further north of us.

And speaking of further north, we are off to a cousin's wedding in Massachusetts on Saturday. I'm taking a day of annual leave on Friday and Monday. I have a lot to use before the end of the year. The wedding is only about a three-hour drive and starts at 3:00 PM, so we'll leave Saturday morning and come back Sunday morning. Our DC were not invited, which everyone is fine with. There are a lot of family members on both sides who have to be included. Having DS home has the added benefit of not needing to hire a cat sitter.

The couple, who are in their forties and a little offbeat, have chosen a Western/Cowboy theme, so DH has ordered a Western shirt from Amazon and will wear that with jeans. I haven't decided what I'll wear.

I'm sure I'll have some lovely pictures of the Berkshire Mountains when I return.

I have two updates about the wedding. Two family members I was looking forward to seeing won't be coming as they both have covid. And the forecast calls for rain on Saturday. The ceremony and reception are both outdoors, rain or shine. Their website said they will have heaters and a fire pit, but I don't know how that will work in the rain.

Look forward to the pictures MissC In France they say mariage pluvieux, mariage heureux (rainy wedding, happy marriage) so hopefully that will be true for them if it rains. We had thunder and lightening during our French chateau pictures - there you can also go free to a chateau and take photos and everyone was coming up to us saying that phrase. It had been lovely and sunny before. I was concerned it was a message from God but has turned out OK.

Lovely meal Havoc
That sounds great a break in Scotland Pumpernickles Hope you enjoyed it.
Hope you feel better Lemons
Lovely to see a moorhen family Mallards

Saw my lovely oncologist today though running 1.5 hours late. Had bloods done which came back normal except GFR on kidneys but that's still OK. She is referring me for CT head but thinks its likely FND which I do too and I am stopping Tamoxifen for 6 weeks then bloods and then Letrozide all going well. She was so lovely and kind. Like a wise old owl. Though they took my weight for first time in a year, was fine last year but put on 1.5 stone on Tamoxifen, ouch, was not expecting that so will need to lose that.

Went swimming yesterday. I cancelled specialist teacher as stressing DS. He did take a bath whilst we were swimming. Was a meeting between teacher and Head but not the greatest of outcomes but more talks next week, think its well intentioned but unrealistic. Have started on diet today. Need to keep calcium high. Need to cut out those post swimming McDonalds. 😂

mathanxiety · 28/09/2023 21:45

Due to schools being off on Monday here for Yom Kippur, I thought today was Wednesday, aka bin collection day, until DD4 put me straight. So I'll have to wait until next Tuesday evening to drag out a mattress that nobody wants (nobody has ever wanted it, to tell the truth, and I don't know where we got it).

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/09/2023 01:39

Had a crazy afternoon getting stuck on worst mix of highway in the lower mainland after missing my exit to Ikea. 🤦‍♀️ I should have gone to Richmond and not attempted Coquitlam...
Now making dinner: roasted potatoes, zucchini and mushrooms with sockeye salmon fillets.
It's a gorgeous fall day: sunny and 14c. ☀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/09/2023 01:40

Silkie, glad appt went well. 😊

HelenaJustina · 29/09/2023 06:54

But did you have fun in IKEA havoc? Am running behind this morning which is not funny as DC4 has choir which starts at 8am prompt as we were reminded in yellow highlighted bold on the last letter

MissConductUS · 29/09/2023 17:24

I saw the heron again yesterday in almost the same spot.

DH is poorly and running a low-grade fever. He tested negative for covid this morning, but it may be too early for the test to pick it up. In either case, we've decided to send our regrets to the couple getting married, as we can't risk exposing the many elderly relatives who will be there.

This is not the worst thing that could have happened. Tropical storm Ophelia has returned, and the whole area is under a flood emergency. We had 2.8 inches of rain by noon. Some roads are closed, trains aren't running, etc. I did some grocery shopping this morning, but I probably should have just stayed home.

Massachusettes is getting the same weather, so the trip up would have been very challenging. The field where the wedding and reception will occur tomorrow will be a sea of mud. I can't help thinking it was a bit daft to plan an outdoor wedding and reception for this time of year with no backup plan.

Our bin collection day has moved to Wednesday as well Math and it feels so wrong. Its been Monday for 20 years or so wherever we have lived. Which works well as goes out Sunday night.

Lovely heron MissC

Thanks Havoc Lovely sounding meal again.

Hope you caught up Helena

Did an hours cleaning of upstairs today and went swimming and did 100 lengths. Am trying to eat less to lose that 1.5 stone I put on with Tamoxifen though it was a bit tough going swimming that much and eating a lot less.

CT scan of head on Monday. Might order Christmas food soon. Trying to chase kitchen people to do the odd jobs they have left and tiler and to take their stuff as really want to put ours back and give it a clean and know it won't be dusty again. Have to also clear all plants around house of which there are many for the painters to paint outside of house but have 2 green bins to do that with, one on Wed and one two weeks later. We have done a good amount but the plants grow back. The lady before us was retired and an amazing gardener.

Silkierabbit · 30/09/2023 01:34

Just ordered Christmas food from the butchers - turkey, pigs in blankets, cheese, veg, Christmas pudding to collect 23 Dec

mathanxiety · 30/09/2023 03:02

Your day sounds frustrating, but your dinner sounds wonderful, Havoc.

MissC - I hope your DH doesn't have covid and will feel better soon.
One of my DCs is in Boston at the moment and reported it has been raining heavily there, not just today but on amd off over the last two weeks.

I was wfh today, and Dcat as usual thought that meant I could be hit up for extra food. She knows how to make a complete nuisance of herself, so after a while I decided to rummage in the can cupboard to see if I could find some tuna, as she had eaten the last of her cat food proper for her second breakfast.

However, the bottom of the can cupboard was coated with some kind of dark, sticky liquid, so I took everything out and identified the culprit as a can of peaches, which was making an ominous fizzing sound. I threw it out and scrubbed the bottom of the cupboard, after taking all the rest of the cans out. Then I fed Dcat, who was fast losing patience with me, kneading my legs, miowing, purring, head-butting me, running toward the food bowl every time I stood up; truly expert mithering.

Before replacing everything, I decided to check the expiry date on each can - whooops!! I ended up with a little more room in the cupboard than there had been before the cull, and took several jars of curry sauce and jam and other stuff like that from what was originally the pasta, dried bean, grain, and rice cupboard but had clearly morphed into a catch-all, and discarded a couple of items that were past their best by dates some by as much as two years. I placed some dried bean and grain canisters from the pasta cupboard on shelves in the kitchen - that little patch now looks more like a scene from Pinterest than my kitchen.

So a big thanks goes out to Dcat. It's a good thing I didn't have much to do today, workwise, just tidying up a few odds and ends.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/09/2023 18:48

I've attached a pic of the offending highway. 🤬

I'll likely go to Ikea in Richmond as is is much easier to get to. 💡

It's a gorgeous day here! Sunny, but cool. Actually caved and turned heat on for a few hours last night as was freezing and I couldn't warm up after being out at park. Have had electric blankets on beds all week already. 🥶

MissConductUS · 30/09/2023 22:52

Math, DH is still a bit poorly and warm, but has had two more negative covid tests, so I'm assuming it's some random virus at this point.

Here's a story about the storm yesterday. We had more rain this morning.

https://nypost.com/2023/09/29/jfk-airport-gets-8-inches-of-rain-friday-new-daily-record/

The reception at the wedding is probably just starting now. I feel badly for the couple that they had everything outdoors in such weather. It's finally cleared up here, so the men are grilling burgers for dinner. It's the first time in weeks we've been able to cook out on the weekend.

NYC’s JFK Airport slammed with 8 inches of rain Friday, setting new daily record

JFK Airport was walloped with 7.97 inches of rain on Friday — a new daily record dating back to 1948, when data was first collected.

That looks bad MissC

We have just been swimming again did 104 lengths and steam room.

Had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast for lunch and steak, new potatoes and veg for dinner.

Cleared some of garden.

DD had a good day at her punting job but said one guy tipped her 10 dollars and she was asking is anyone going to America to us. 🤔

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/10/2023 02:35

Did lots of laundry today and am going to try and get closet together shortly. Went to hardware store to buy a drill bit to drill starter holes for screws for closet organizer.
Just finished a simple dinner of baked chicken with asparagus. Had mixed berries, grapes and cheese earlier. Did a Costco shop and bought a panettone even though I have a pan of brownies baked last night...

Miss, that flooding in NYC is awful.
Good swimming, Silkie!

Prok, if you're reading: hope you are ok. 💖

That looks delicious Mum
I have hung out washing before I go to work with strict instructions to DS that he brings it in when he comes back from college at lunchtime. Woe betide if he forgets as rain is forecast......

HelenaJustina · 02/10/2023 18:42

Lots of rain here today, I was on gate duty but there was a brief lull so I didn’t get wet. It’s warm and super muggy now. Have just been for a run while DC4 swims and am unseasonably warm.

I correctly identified a colleague’s word of the day, from ‘sounds like insurgent but means stubborn’… anybody else care to hazard a guess?! dictionary and thesaurus use counts as cheating

Intransigent?

Silkierabbit · 02/10/2023 20:38

Hope the closet building went OK Havoc

Very rainy here today. DD has just gone to gym. DH went to piano lesson. We all had a Thai takeaway, just lots of starters. I had veg spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce, satay chicken and pork dumplings.

This morning did head CT with contrast, was bit of traffic to hospital as it was at 8.30am, passed the striking doctors but all went very smoothly for me.

Jackets with chicken, mayo, sweetcorn and spring onion for lunch. Ordered DDs birthday cake, red velvet.

Hello everyone!
I am back home from my little holiday with mama !

Before I forget..
@Mumtobabyhavoc I live 20 mins from Richmond!! ( not your one obviously 🤣!)

Had a wonderful weekend with mama and family.

I took her in the wheelchair and just plonked the bags on top of her 🤣

Staff were so helpful.

Assistants all the way.

Buuutttt...

Oh my word ...

My mama can't half bloody snore 🤣🤣🤣

I was having my shower at 7.30 in the morning just to drown out the sound !

Anyone who knows me knows I am not that much of an early bird ,🤣

We had wonderful weather.at the seaside..got back to London...and
and got caught up with the thunder lighting storm .

Lying on my bed now thinking...my bed is the best !!

bizzey · 02/10/2023 21:09

Shower was at 6.30 !

MissConductUS · 02/10/2023 23:04

Not much to report here. I was on my second day of AL leave today. I emptied most of the planters on the deck, as most of the plants were done for the season. I also walked for a few miles this morning.

I had an issue with Apple Carplay, which I thought was due to my new phone. When it was plugged into the car, I couldn't listen to SiriusXM radio. Of course, when I showed it to DH, it worked perfectly.

It will be warm and sunny here this week, a weather event called Indian Summer here.
