That's wonderful painting Havoc, very impressed and nice, practical flooring.

Kitchen is very nearly done, about a day to go but already cooker, fridge, dishwasher, sink and tap are useable which is a big step forward. Its mainly tiling, they now decided that we need to order tiles so I ordered them at the weekend and they arrive Tuesday but we don't have a date yet for tiler. There's a few tweaks as well but like a few inches of painting, a tiny bit cut off one worktop type thing which will be very quick and they need to take the rest of their stuff, they still have stuff taking 1 small room, some kitchen cupboards, in the garden. But lovely to have cooker especially back. I would put a photo but DH has covered every surface with stuff. 🤔

mathanxiety · 26/09/2023 04:30

Lovely floor, Havoc. Male sure to run an empty cycle on the washing machine to clear the fine dust out of the pipes between washes.
Glad the kitchen finish line is in sight, Silkie.
Helena one of my DCs was also a sleepwalker. She had a fellow sleepwalking friend over for sleepovers a few times, resulting in very unrestful nights for me even though neither of them left their beds any time. It is the weirdest thing to see someone plodding around at night with that glassy look in their eyes. I used to say, "[DC] it's time to go back to bed now," and they would nod slowly, then turn and head for the stairs.

I went out on an errand today with a blue sky but by the time I got to the pharmacy I was being pelted by small hailstones. Not nice in a shorts and T- shirt but at least I wasn't wearing sandals.

mathanxiety · 26/09/2023 16:33

I got a notification a few weeks ago to say my driver's license was due for renewal and looked online yesterday to see what documents I would need, only to find the DMV offices now operate by appointment only. So I booked the first available appointment - two weeks from now - at the closest DMV that had any appointments available, which was 28 miles away and would take me at least an hour to get to in normal traffic. This morning, as I am wfh today, I decided to look at the website again to see if there were any canceled appointments available for closer offices, and one popped up for today at 9:30, so I canceled the other appointment and booked the one for today. I made it there at 9:29 even after overshooting the exit for the DMV and turning back, and was in and out in half an hour. My photo is a slight improvement over the grim one I've been carrying around for the last few years but it's still pretty bad.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/09/2023 19:06

Thanks for the tip re laundry, Math.
I still have so much washing to do...ugh.

Plan is to put some more items in place today, ie area rugs and sort Havoc's bedroom, but sort, purge and combine boxes that reside in the storage room and hall closet. Too much "stuff." 🤦‍♀️

Also, what a pain re your DMV process, Math.
I should check when my DL expires. I've been quite happy with my pics! I've perfected the Mona Lisa smile (smiling isn't allowed in DL's or passport photos here) and it has made a big difference. I have an old passport that I hated showing...

Looks like the major storm missed us! We did have a lot of rain and some wind, but nothing brutal.

sueelleker · 26/09/2023 19:24

Just had a spam email claiming that my television licence had expired, and the direct debit wasn't going through-could I please set up a new one. The only thing is, when my DH was alive, the licence did expire in September. However, he died at the end of January last year, and the revised licence now expires in Feruary. :D

Silkierabbit · 26/09/2023 19:31

Good you got that done Math

Glad storm missed you Havoc

The passport photo thing reminds me of when DD and I went to Mauritius and gave both our passports to the lady who looked at them then looked at us and said who is who? DD was really insulted as she is 30 years younger than me. 😂But pre chemo I looked like DD and that's my photo. DD is gorgeous but managed a photo making her look like a police suspect. DD also uses a French passport and they were a few raised eyebrows about that there and they asked if she was French and she was no of course I am not French I just have a French passport. But the passport says she's French and her old British one says she's British.

Tiles should be arriving tomorrow. No news on when kitchen guys are coming back. I put a ban on Thursday as I have oncology checks that day and that's enough for one day. So Friday would be earliest. Tiler seems hard to track down though. Its just really being able to put things back in units as a few odd jobs need doing.

Veg lasagne tonight.

bizzey · 26/09/2023 20:14

Oops !

IWanderedLonely · 26/09/2023 20:19

I've made a start on prepping tomorrow's tea ( the dreaded weekly Wednesday mass catering event Wink), so rewarding myself with chocolate.

MissConductUS · 26/09/2023 21:06

Math, DMV is by appointment here in NY too. I've heard that AAA offices can do some of the renewals, but have never tested that myself.

Mum, I'm fine. I was just having a reaction to the covid booster jab I got on Friday. Your floor looks great. We took up most of the carpeting in our house and replaced it with vinyl plank flooring as soon as the kids could walk without falling down regularly.

I was walking at lunch and was a bit shocked to see a crane or heron present, watching for fish no doubt.

What a lovely picture miss C.

Hope the oncology check goes ok on Thursday Silkie.

DH finally has an appointment which has only taken 3 years to come though for the migraine specialist.

Feeling a bit under the weather. DH says I look Ill.

bizzey · 26/09/2023 21:30

Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly
Lemons ... hope it passes soon.

My bath with the camp light, candle and music was an eye-opener!!

Face masked , scrubbed, creamed..

Bring on tomorrow!!

IWanderedLonely · 26/09/2023 21:38

Also, really dull: I have a big spit on the side of my nose - I'm 55 FFS

bizzey · 26/09/2023 22:26

IWandered ..it is there to make you feel like a teenager again !!

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 26/09/2023 22:39

Today I have mostly been eating pizza. Feeling very lazy.

Beautiful pic MissC looks like a heron to me, although I'm not entirely sure what a crane looks like so I could be wrong. You must have a similar habitat as in my area, we've got a few herons who hang out fishing (and eyeing up small ducklings) along the river too.

Saw one family of the moorhens last week, they've managed to raise their babies to almost adults and have a new lot now 💕.

I hope all those who aren't feeling well recover soon.

Fingers crossed for your appointment Silkie 🤞

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/09/2023 23:02

Taking a break from cleaning. Have vacuumed and steam cleaned living and dining areas and steam cleaned wall behind tv. Also moved furniture to a semi-permanent location. Now having egg salad with pickle on challah. Will have left over soup shortly. Then, I think I'll have a piece of the chocolate babka purchased yesterday. 😛

Bizzey, that bath sounds lovely.

Miss, I had such a sore arm when I had my shots! How long has your flooring held up?
Lemons, sounds like rest is in order.
Sue, it's no wonder so many people get caught in scams.

MissConductUS · 26/09/2023 23:26

Lemons, sorry to hear you're feeling poorly. There are a lot of viruses going around this time of year. Covid is also going around at a good clip here as well.

Mum, the flooring looks great. It went in in 2006 or thereabouts. In the picture, it's white oak flooring in the foreground and the vinyl planks beyond it in the hallway. We tried to pick out the vinyl planks that were the best match for the oak.

Miss,Glad to know it has held up well! Looks good. Thanks for the pic. 👍

whyyy321 · 27/09/2023 20:31

@MallardsMoorhensAndLethe do herons eat ducklings? Oh my!

@bizzey your bath sounds really lovely and relaxing.

Busy week at work here. DH made a spaghetti squash risotto which was really tasty. DS is so close to walking, I'm sure I'm going to blink and miss his first steps! DH watching the football so I'm just scrolling and counting down to bedtime, I'm shattered.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/09/2023 22:02

Whyyy, by sheer luck I managed a 2-3 second video of Havoc's first steps. I had my phone ready and at hand a lot during that first year and I just caught it. It was so fast.

Just had a slice of chocolate babka after a poached egg on toast with a drizzle of evoo and a sprinkle of pink salt. Managed to get the yolk exactly how I wanted it. ☺️😛

bizzey · 27/09/2023 22:24

Evening everyone!

I have floor envy !
Though as I walk around in socks all the time at home and I am very accident prone, wood flooring may not be the best option for me 🤣🤣.

Busy day today..

Mama had bloods done this morning..

Medical phone appointment for ds..

Hairdressers for me to have a blow dry...whoo hoo...swishy hair tonight instead of frizzy hair 🤣🤣

And clothes sorted for the weekend trip I am taking mama on

Going away Friday to Monday to visit her sister, brother, spouses and cousins by the coast.

Choosing what to take has proved a bit difficult.

Was all meant to be casual ...now just found out we are been taken to a fancy restaurant...

Mama and I are staying in a hotel which will be fun .... hopefully!!

Bought a new backpack type of rucksack to use.

I need to navigate luggage and a wheelchair.

It is an interesting beach, on the Essex coast.

I will try and remember to take photos .

1 hour on the train....
But 1 and 1/2 hours to cross London to get to the station..
That's in a car (taxi)

whyyy ..i can still remember the excitement of seeing mine so their first steps .. so special .

Pumpernickles · 27/09/2023 22:37

I went on a wee break to Scotland. Posted cards to peeps at 3 pm yesterday in an ordinary postbox. They arrived this morning! Is the Scottish Royal Mail better than the English one?

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 28/09/2023 03:36

Why the heron was definitely stalking a bold new baby that had strayed far from it's mother, in the heron's direction. Luckily it realised and changed direction, swimming swiftly back to mum and the heron went back to eyeing up fish. Seagulls too. Saw one of the moorhens squawking with its wings spread out over the nest one day, all the babies underneath, while a seagull constantly flitting from one bank to the other never took its eyes off the moorhen. Creeps me out actually. I know everything has to eat but there's something awful about eating your own kind.

Today I've mostly been contemplating the meaning of life.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/09/2023 05:29

Everyone is so busy!
Bizzey, nice treat to get a blow-out. 👍

I put two boxes and one bag of hard-cover books into car to drop of at thrift shop tomorrow. Will also take old printer to recycling depot. The purge is underway!!!
Went to look for a floor lamp or better yet a replacement lampshade for the one I have. No such luck in finding either. I'll pop back onto Amazon and have another look. It's an old torchiere lamp that is still working, so I'm loathe to throw it away as it's a great tall lamp for a dark corner without a window.
Went to hardware store for another pair of shelf braces and felt thingies to put onto bottoms of chair legs so the chairs won't scratch the floor. Also bought L-braces to secure closet organizer back into closet.
Late dinner of spaghetti with prawns, mushrooms, grape tomatoes, zucchini, spinach and garlic. Drizzled evoo and some oil from a jar of sun-dried tomatoes overtop. Easy peasey and quite satisfying.
