Bizzey I have a normal slightly padded title bag for my full size laptop, the mouse goes in the zip pocket and the charger is in the main part with the laptop but I kept the charger in its cardboard box it arrived in.

I hope they don't leave you without tiles or with all those finishing bits undone for months Silkie. Floof should have his/her own fan club 😁

Glad your favourite takeaway place is opening up again MissC. What a nightmare for them to have a fire 🔥

I put out some bags for the charity collection which was supposed to come round today but they didn't for some reason. I shall take them to the donations drop off point for my regular charity tomorrow.

Silkierabbit · 22/09/2023 14:08

Hope you had a lovely takeaway MissC

A few takeaways round here are going downhill, I think its due to high inflation and cost of living issues some of them have got much cheaper meat and oils which don't always taste nice so can maintain price. I was very glad our Thai the other night was delicious but the Chinese and the kebab van are both getting worse. Its a tough environment to be operating in though.

I also hope its not going to be ages for kitchen completion Mallards At our old house it was 2 months to get the kitchen done with builders going off all the time then returning a few days later and that was a big kitchen and we had toddlers and was winter. This kitchen is much smaller and these people much better and summer helps with no cooker and no toddlers definitely helps. Overall its not been bad at all but want it finished now. There are two of them in today which is great so hope they can get it finished today, they were saying to DH they would clean it, I think as I cleaned it the other day and they felt bad but I don't care about them cleaning as I can do that. At my old house I used to clean after the workmen and then they started hoovering an hour a day at the end 😂I told them I would do it. They didn't seem to mind as they seemed to use my house as a centre for all of them. They have just been electric sawing and Floof came to my side like he wanted me to protect him though now he's gone off again obviously braving it now.

We had a fairly horrific but thankfully short visit from specialist teacher yesterday. We had cleaned the house then DS suddenly realised a visit was happening and moved his bed revealing lots of rubbish he had stored underneath as soon as she walked in. It went downhill from there. She is suggesting solution is more visits but didn't seem phased.

Silkierabbit · 22/09/2023 14:10

DD is doing her university application form and trying to work out which 5 to put. She has 2 she wants and not sure with other 3. I just read a scary thread on MN that its the most competitive subject to get in for and loads are getting no offers from the top universities with perfect grades. She's happy to take a gap year if that happens but hope it doesn't.

mathanxiety · 22/09/2023 16:13

Silkie I hope the teacher understands that the rubbish under the bed is part of the overall picture of DS, and that she's seen plenty of the same with other youngsters.

We're having very muggy weather here with low light and high mould counts. There isn't as much as a puff of a breeze. I spent yesterday working my way through a box of tissues, sneezing so hard that my chest hurts today.

whyyy321 · 22/09/2023 17:36

Good luck to your daughter @Silkierabbit , what an exciting point in her life :) And I am sure DS's teacher wouldn't be phased, and if she was- well that's not very open minded of her is it!

Glad for your takeaway re-opening @MissConductUS and for your newly refurbushed laptop @bizzey !

Friday comes round quickly doesn't it. 1 year vaccinations for DS this afternoon (we both cried, embarrassingly on my part) but DH and I managed to sneak out for our Friday coffee and pastry together this morning which is my new favourite part of the week. Visiting friends an hour away tomorrow, will drive during DS's naps. Enjoying the change in weather, it feels lovely and autumnal and the sky was a beautiful misty pink this morning.

Silkierabbit · 22/09/2023 17:42

Yes she was fine with the rubbish under bed thing and the throwing things, said she is used to it. DH did move his beds position which probably didn't help.

Kitchen is now painted and sink in, cooker is just going in. Not too sure how much is left, tiling will be later but they said we could use before just hoping they take their stuff. We have got 1 room full of their stuff. They have to put extractor in, not sure if they've done door on integrated fridge. But think we are very close now. Though it's 5.40pm. I am just hoping they don't leave little bits but will be happy with a useable cooker. Wanted to go swimming tonight but don't know if it's best to stay and check things first. Pool closes at 9.30pm but 30 mins away.

Silkierabbit · 22/09/2023 17:45

Glad you got a nice coffee and pastry.

Yes most people working with DS have confessed their teenage children are similar rubbish goes anywhere but a bin. They wondered about OCD but quickly ruled it out as he put loads down the toilet. Thankfully doesn't do that here.

HelenaJustina · 23/09/2023 09:53

Beautiful autumn morning here. Been for a run, taken DC2 to swim training, second load of laundry is on and I need to shower before taking DC to ballet/tap in 20 minutes. Catching up with a friend who is at the start of what promises to be a messy divorce. I have no words of wisdom but can listen and be empathetic.

HildaTablet · 23/09/2023 10:08

That’s a tough one, Helena. But I think being a listening ear is a good and wise thing to be.

I’m sitting having a free coffee in Waitrose (just about the sole joy of a Waitrose card these days) before another train journey. You used to be able to upgrade to First Class at a weekend when the line I’ll be travelling on was run by Virgin - you just went and sat in 1st Class and paid the guard (or ‘train manager’) £15.

Nowadays it’s the dreadful Avanti and heaven forbid it could still be so simple; you have to bid for an upgrade on an app called Seatfrog. Otherwise you can bypass the auction and buy an instant upgrade, but before the seat auction opened yesterday, they wanted £75 just for the upgrade alone. As my entire return ticket cost £46 I decided that would probably be rather pointless. Can we go back to the old days, please?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/09/2023 21:46

Just a very quick check-in:
enjoying quiet past few days;
eating chips and dip, ice-cream (lactose free Cherry Garcia), chocolate and healthy meals of chicken and salad for balance;
re-watching The Morning Show from the beginning before starting season 3 and just started watching Tehran (Apple TV).

it's pouring rain - we need it- but forecast is for a deluge, an atmospheric river. 😔
Checked progress on floors yesterday and looks better than expected, but also darker than I thought I had chosen. Makes me happy that I've re-painted in all-white. 😃

Silkierabbit · 23/09/2023 21:58

I think listening is one of the best things people can do Helena

Hope train journey was OK Hilda

Quite a bit of progress on kitchen on Friday and almost finished. We have tiling and a few tweaks to go but dishwasher, fridge and oven, sink, tap are all fitted. The man could not get bottom oven to work and was fiddling with wires then he left and DH did more fiddling with wires. I read the instruction manual and it said bottom oven will not work if programmer set to auto so told DH and he said that won't do anything. Then rushed back it works.

Discussions about tiles today, they said we need to order then tiler will come whereas before they were ordering. Its fine I have ordered them and arrive on Tuesday. Apparently tiler is on holiday but hopefully won't be long. DH rushed out for dishwasher tablets in excitement. We had bacon and egg sandwiches for lunch and paella for dinner. Floof was very interested in the paella chicken.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. We went swimming yesterday as well but got there a bit late due to kitchen work so had to leave pool when they close, did 60 lengths though and jacuzzi but ideally would have had more time. It was just me at the end which was nice though.

Silkierabbit · 23/09/2023 21:59

Glad floors are looking good Havoc

MissConductUS · 24/09/2023 14:23

It's been raining all weekend. We're on the northern fringe of Tropical Storm Ophilia but don't expect major flooding like we had in July. DS was busy with work last night, so DH made chicken piccata.

I felt rough yesterday, which I thought was just a reaction to my covid booster on Friday, but I feel worse today so I'm coming down with something. I did a covid test, which was negative, but it's also expired so may not be accurate.

DH and I upgraded our iPhone 11s to the new iPhone 15 Pro yesterday. Our mobile carrier was offering a huge trade in on the 11 and I really wanted to better camera on the 15. So look forward to better wildlife, cat and plant pictures in the near future.

I'm going back to bed for a bit.

Hope you feel better soon @MissConductUS, All our covid tests are out of date too! Think we got carried away and over ordered them back in the early pandemic panic. I've had my flu jab today so I'll probably be coming out in sympathy with you later this evening.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/09/2023 19:49

Today been to swimming, garden centre and had a lovely pub lunch totally on a whim. The food was outstanding and best Sunday lunch I have had in a long time.

very warm and wet here.

DS having awful nightmares at the moment.

IWanderedLonely · 24/09/2023 21:04

Had a lovely weekend. Went into the garden yesterday (which has been totally neglected this year) for 1/2 an hour and ended up staying 2 1/2 hours. Dr's have altered my menopause meds (changed citalopram to sertralin) and I am finally beginning to feel a bit better.
Today we celebrated 3 birthdays DD, DM & DGS ( all within 5 days of each other) with a family get-together, takeaway and 4 cakes. 15 of us!

Silkierabbit · 24/09/2023 21:43

Hope you feel better MissC

Glad you had a nice time Lemons

Glad you had a good celebration Iwandered

Have just been swimming, steam and jacuzzi and did 100 lengths. Had a roast beef dinner today, so nice to have cooker back.

echt · 24/09/2023 22:13

Spring is underway here in Melbourne, so dragged the outdoor bench cushions out and put them on the seats in the front garden.

bizzey · 25/09/2023 01:53

Silkie and Havoc ..loving the updates on the home renovations !
(Don't want to say home improvements as I am sure they were lovely before and did not need improvements !)

I can smell the fresh paint (for some reason it always evokes memories of my dad !)
and the love in your homes.😍

MissC...Hope you feel better soon.
I always have to clear my week /diary before I have flu or COVID jabs ,as they always wipe me out.!

A better camera is my dream phone ...well along with a battery last lasts a whole day !
But I love my little phone ...even with it faults .

Don't want to change yet ... plus...after 2 years...I have finally got the hang of this phone 🤣🤣🤣

Lemons.. nothing better than a good Sunday Lunch with a lovely snooze afterwards!

Hope ds's nightmares ease off.

Can't remember how old he is but I had a sleepwalking toddler who gave ME nightmares!

IWandered...good the meds are getting sorted and hope you are feeling a bit better.

Now ...I suppose you are all thinking 🤔🤔...how did Bizzey do such a long post and remember all our names ....?

Well ...

I am in the middle of doing ds's PIP renewal ..and I am having a little demand avoidance of my own !

I hate doing forms

I hate paper work

I hate anything official

I hate having to do these forms for ds
Sooo...

My kitchen is beautifulfully sparkling clean instead 🤣🤣🤣🤣!

Silkie ...i need some of your fight and energy to push me along !!!

Didn't help by finding out my new little laptop didn't bring up things that I needed .

I had documents...but didn't have WORD .

Sorted now finally ...and a couple of glasses of wines later !

But now I am wide awake !!

With an unbelievable busy week ahead of me !

bizzey · 25/09/2023 01:56

echt ...Spring is my favourite month ..
Lucky you!

bizzey · 25/09/2023 02:21

Well what I mean is ...I now have the documents of the 1st PIP in a file...

I have not opened it and re-read what it says !

Whyyyy is this so difficult?

MissConductUS · 25/09/2023 18:24

bizzey, no one likes filling out forms. You do seem to have quite a lot of them in the UK. For us, it's just filing our income tax return every April.

I started feeling better Sunday afternoon, so it was likely just my reaction to the covid booster that was making me feel poorly.

Tropical Storm Ophelia is still with us. We've had over an inch of rain today by noon. I've still gone for a walk at lunchtime, and have taken my first photo with the new iPhone. It looks much sharper on my laptop, but MN no doubt reduces the resolution when photos are posted here. I had to resize it in Paint to get it under the 6mb limit. You can see how full the reservoir is by the gusher coming over the spillway.

Those PIP forms are a pain in the neck Bizzey plus 6 months before you get an answer though I did manage to get the digital version, not sure if they do that for renewals but they keep it secret for first one trying to make it as difficult as possible.

Nice photo MissC

The washing of swimming costumes and towels has been done.

DH has gone to piano lesson which is 45 mins and will pick up Thai takeaway on way back.

We had a new smartmeter fitted today to the electrics and gas and they said they need to do a meter repair as it was fine in 1970 but could be dangerous now, they said not very dangerous but not up to standards now so will come back. Floof immediately rushed to them and the man said you are a big beast, it was clearly a compliment but Floof is the least beast like creature ever, so gentle and trilly.

HelenaJustina · 25/09/2023 21:25

Poor DS lemons one of mine used to sleepwalk which I hated. And a couple had night terrors at around 2yrs. They grew out of them but horrid while it lasted.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/09/2023 23:13

Hello lovelies 😊💖
Flooring is done! Yea!!!
I'm so glad I popped by yesterday to paint laundry closet and touch up other closets before doors went back on. Have got tonnes of laundry to do, a lot of it is due to construction dust. 😧 Will vacuum and steam clean beds, but I did some floor cleaning and cleaned the bathroom as well as moved boxes and other things to proper rooms. Will be sorting (and hopefully purging) the rest of the week. To make life easier today I stopped by Jewish deli on the way home and picked up a challah, a lentil and mushroom soup, some black and white cookies (I ate 2) and a chocolate babka. Finishing a latte and just did a tub clean in washing machine, so about to get some laundry in.
Pic of floor and freshly painted white walls below. I chose vinyl plank for durability and low maintenance with Havoc. I noticed a few more wall dings to repair since workers were here, but I expected that. Am going to repair and paint baseboards as rainy day project over the next month and hopefully re-paint kitchen and bathroom.

Silkie, kitchen etc done?
Miss, are you sick? Are you ok?
