Hope you escape the hurricane MissC The university application process is very simple here MissC and also not changed since I applied back in the 1990s.

Floof's tail would make an excellent brush Sue and the rabbit's tail as well. 😂

Maudsley called first thing. Now staying on for advice which is good. Meetings with Head and then meeting with ed psych on Monday. DH has gone to pick up DD and collect orders from Currys (new tablets) and Dunelm (new rug for rabbit, washing up bowls and towel and pretty kitchen containers).

Silkierabbit · 08/09/2023 17:31

Have a lovely time with friends Giggorata

I feel you are missing some chickens Helena but you seem to have non-stop things to do already.

Silkierabbit · 08/09/2023 17:33

Kitchen work 2/3rds of day done before guy was called away because his son is struggling but they will apparently be here all next week and finish by end of week. Floof is so excited by the upstairs fridge and esp the fizzy water. He had some parma ham, then offered him normal ham and he refused initially as not as good but then ate when hungry later.

HelenaJustina · 08/09/2023 17:41

It’s my birthday today. The day started early (pre 6am) as everyone has to be out of the house by 7:15 on a weekday. But nearly home (watching DC4 football training) and then will kick back!

Silkierabbit · 08/09/2023 17:54

Happy birthday Helena Hope you get to do something nice.

halfpasteleven · 08/09/2023 21:37

Happy birthday Helena..
I hope you get to enjoy it this weekend.

Silkierabbit · 08/09/2023 21:50

Welcome @Turquioseblue of course you can join from Australia. We are on this thread now. Lovely pics.

DH has gone to the pub to watch the rugby France vs NZ. We had kebabs from the kebab van earlier.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/09/2023 22:05

🥳🥳🥳HAPPY BIRTHDAY HELENA🥳🥳🥳

sproutsandparsnips · 08/09/2023 22:35

Happy birthday Helena!
France are doing well Silkie
My day off today. I have washed the DC's bedding. Had my hair cut. Driven to the beach and back 3 times, first time to meet my friend (and we walked along the beach and paddled in the sea) then to take DS to meet his friends, then to pick him up.
I have not done any revision for my viva exam later this month.

sproutsandparsnips · 08/09/2023 22:37

Beach at sunset taken by DS

Welcome, @Giggorata, and thanks for sharing your news about friends visiting. Are you putting them up, and how long will they be visiting? I remember the counter culture days, but I was too young to be a hippie.

Happy Birthday Helena!! CakeWine I hope you've had some time to relax and enjoy it.

@turquoiseblue, I saw your post on the old thread, please repost here so that everyone can see your lovely pictures. It'll be fab to have an Australian on the thread. I'm in New York, so we need more diversity of time zones.

Lovely sunset sprouts.

I'm just home from work, so I need to change and await the men making pizza.

Thank you, MissConductUS, I'm pretty new here so still finding my way around.

You are in New York - I was chatting to a lass here the other day from California and said how much I wished I had gone to the US when I was young - went to the UK and Europe but so sorry I missed the States.

I worked in a hospital here in Sydney which took a trainee surgeon from the USA each year - the Americans were great, always so easy going and friendly.

Silkierabbit · 09/09/2023 06:24

Lovely beach and sunset Sprouts Nice to have that closeby.

Really hot here and drank some milk as our fizzy water is finished which I have with elderflower cordial and kitchen is being redone.

Floof is very happy I am up early. He has had his morning tuna now. He is also very happy I have a new ipad and put the boxes on the floor where he normally sits. At first he was a bit hmmpf that my place then he was like no this is actually great I can lie on these and try stretching my paws in all the little boxes. So he spent the whole night lying on them with a paw in a little box each. Have set up ipad, need to set up DSs and add Mcafee to both.

Birds are singing.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 09/09/2023 17:20

You're making me wish I was in that beach Sprouts

Floof with a law in each box is so funny Silkie

Having out my summer clothes away in an awkward place, I spent yesterday scrabbling around for some others that were more accessible. This autumn heatwave is hotter than most of the summer. Today I'm reading an ancient book that's almost 100 years old, a little piece of history in my hands.

Welcome Turquoise. I'm quite new to this thread too, it's lovely here.

MissC you're making me hungry for pizza now. That's tea decided then.

Happy belated birthday Helena

HelenaJustina · 09/09/2023 21:22

Thank you for all the lovely birthday wishes! It was low key but good. Today was DC2’s birthday (which obviously takes precedence) and I have spent most of it poolside at a swim meet with said child! Same again tomorrow… it’s pretty brutal in this heat.

Sprouts whereabouts is that beautiful beach?! Don’t say if you’d rather not, I’d love to be more coastal. We are about as far inland as you can get in the UK.

sproutsandparsnips · 09/09/2023 22:26

Helena it is Aberafan beach. We are lucky to have it close by, though ironically, if you were to take the photo looking the other way you would have Port Talbot steelworks in it! I think they are strangely beautiful in their own way (though I am odd!). I once went to an exhibition of photographs taken in the steelworks and really enjoyed.
You can see Mumbles head in the distance, the other side of Swansea Bay.
Been to watch our local team play today - victory by a single point in a good natured and sportsmanlike match.
I have resolved to be more productive tomorrow than I have today and hope to do a swimming class and have been to church by 1030am, then do a little bit of work for upcoming exam and watch the rugby with a load of washing washed and ironed in between!

Silkierabbit · 10/09/2023 21:00

Good to have a beach so close Sprouts. I think where DH works has an office there.

Hope you enjoyed the book Mallards

Glad you had a good birthday Helena

Floof was poking me from 5am to 6.30am, think it's the heat, around 32C here today and Floof keeps asking for the fridge to be opened then sitting in the door to cool himself down.

Got a Sainsbury's order and had like a ploughman's for lunch with brie, apple and pear chutney, fig, watercrackers, raddish, pickled onions and then had lemon curd yoghurt X 2. Then went swimming and did 104 lengths, steam room and jacuzzi. Took a long time as they made the whole pool for kids for 1 hour when was impossible to swim. I wasn't best pleased but that at 5.30pm they put in back and all kids left and could swim again. Hope they don't do that again. It maybe as so hot was busy.

Came back and DS has had a bath. He has used my lime bath foam, normally it's lavender those were knocked over but that may have been DS or may have been Floof.

DH on phone to France.

MissConductUS · 10/09/2023 23:39

Silkie, your ploughman's lunch sounds fab. I've seen them on restaurant menus occasionally but never tried one. I think it's considered a pub lunch here.

We had our Sunday Zoom call with DD. It's been hot in Massachusetts this week, and of course, the dorms have no air conditioning. Her boyfriend is thinking of applying to graduate school.

There's a crew regatta held every October in Boston called the Head of the Charles. DD's uni is competing and DS has secured a job as a race day volunteer, so they'll see each other there. DS has to pay for a hotel but gets some nice swag for volunteering.

I was on the deck earlier and noticed this rather large spider web between the house and my weather station.

I did a little dog sitting this weekend for a friend who was going to a wedding. The Ddog stayed here with me, and we went on several walkies/ squirrel chases. Dcat spent the weekend giving the dog the stink eye but they avoided each other carefully. Dcat at one point ate a good deal of the dog's special chicken food.

Have a lovely time Hilda That looks like Amsterdam maybe?

The regatta sounds great MissC

Just had meeting with Head, DS and DH over Teams and now have 12pm meeting with Ed psych. Kitchen work has restarted. Less hot today.

HildaTablet · 11/09/2023 13:31

Silkie, it is. The black wooden house in the last pic is the oldest in the city, dating to the 1500s. The whole city looked like this once, but was rebuilt in brick because of the fire risk. It’s scorching here although slightly cooler than yesterday, which still isn’t saying much.

Hope your meetings are productive re. DS.
