Lovely cat picture MissC Yes we have an electric lawnmower, think most people do here. Not sure what is wrong with it, it was only a cheap one and 5 years old now, DH thinks fuse may have gone.

DD did her personal statement for university last night with me and has been back at school today. DSs new school starts tomorrow but we had heard nothing so I chased and the Head replied which was good but said DS needed to attend a meeting with us, Head, Head of year at school before he can start. We booked DS into a haircut but he slumped on being told about it so no haircut. He coped OK with cahms visit which was 10 minute and kitchen people. Told this to school and they now want meeting on Teams and say DS will have a very bespoke timetable. Have agreed to Teams though DS has never done an online meeting, he might listen if a good day or he might hide in a cupboard if a bad day but we can try. Not sure what the very bespoke timetable is all about and no details of any support or lunch card or teachers or timetable. Tbf to school they were just told in summer holidays. LA are back in tomorrow.

Kitchen work continued all day and is now painted. DH now at his piano lesson and we are having an Indian meal from the takeaway for dinner, of course DH as usual doesn't want anything for himself but will help himself to everyone elses. 😂Chickens new chicken woodchip flooring is arriving tomorrow, we need to move chicken house for the outside painting so may do it this week. Chickens and rabbit are currently at a holiday home, not sure why DH put chickens in one but rabbit is there due to kitchen work.

Silkie I did think of you when I saw the little silkies.

Lovely picture of your cat MissC
In boring news Parking has become an issue in work. The council has put yellow lines all around the side road at work which means now 11 spaces for 50 staff.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 05/09/2023 19:31

Today was the boring task of sorting out car insurance.

Lemons oh my, that's a nightmare parking situation, what will you do?

Hope your DS online meeting goes well Silkie

MissConductUS · 06/09/2023 21:22

Mallards, we just got a refund on our car insurance. We gave DS one of our cars earlier this year, and he obtained insurance for it from the same company we use. They neglected to take him off our policy as a driver of our cars as they should have. DH discovered this when he called to tell them that DD had one of our cars at uni, which changed the premium a bit. So they sent us a check for $193, which was a pleasant surprise.

Not much new here. It's still very hot here for September (34 C currently). Our gray frog friend was still on the deck when we cooked out Monday night, and I was the young duck on the reservoir yesterday.

My office was flooded about a month ago and is finally fixed up, so I moved back in this afternoon. It's nice to have a door I can close again and they've replaced the carpet and repainted as well.

The town I live in has just informed us that the state is going to close a road I use to get to work for flooding related repairs soon, so that will add 10-15 minutes each way to my commute. No start date yet, but it will take 2-4 weeks. And the school buses are back on the road in the morning.

I'm back from Boston, and glad I had a couple of days to recover from all the schlepping before heading back to work. It was extremely hot and humid when I got back (94F) and it stayed like that until last night, but we had thunderstorms this morning and it's very pleasantly warm now, with low humidity and a nice, fresh breeze. There is all sorts of pumpkin related stuff in the shops and pumpkin spice lattes and the like in coffee places.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/09/2023 00:59

Had dental appt downtown today, so headed to Cartems for doughnuts after. Bought three yeast doughnuts and three cake doughnuts (my fave). Ate two on the drive home. 😛

Havoc's latest phrase is, Let go! 🤦‍♀️
Also, is quite proficient at saying, No thank you when I say, Sit on your potty to go pee. 🤷‍♀️

Math, hope all went well on your trip. That heat/humidity at home sounds grim, though.

MissC are your roadworks genuine? Will it really only be 2-4 weeks? In the UK when a sign goes up Road Closed For Works from X date for 6wks...What they really mean is on the appointed day, in the middle of the night, someone will come and lay cones cordoning off the area and the road will as mentioned be closed/restricted to one lane (one lane for both directions, not one lane each). About a week after that you'll see some people in Hi Viz standing around scratching their heads and attempting to dig up a large hill with a shovel, just the one, between them all. About a week after that some machines will appear and be abandoned in the general area of the cones. On a random day, a hole will appear overnight. On another random day there'll be some Hi Viz people in it digging for a couple of hours. Apart from that, the machines may occasionally shift position slightly, perhaps in a strong wind, but you'll never see anyone working or any evidence of anything changing with the road. About 6 months later the road will be awash with Hi Viz people and the machines will be busy for a few days. A week after that, someone will throw the Road Closed sign in the river and rearrange the cones to form a rude symbol or word, some cones will be stolen to block someone-who-thinks-they-own-the-road's neighbours from parking outside their house, on Saturday night some drunk people will be seen walking down the road with a cone on one of their heads. A few days later, more cones will appear along with new Road Closed sign, so people have something to throw in the river again. One random day next week the Hi Viz will return and the road will gain a newly filled in hole/entire new surface (well, only the top 2 inches really because they CBA/too expensive to take the whole thing up and start again even though it would last 10x longer). One day later the machines will disappear overnight. Two weeks later someone will finally come and remove those cones and signs that didn't get thrown into the woods besides the road, the ones in the river will moss over with algae and become homes for fishes, they will leave the sandbags holding the Road Closed sign in place in the middle of the pavement to rot for all eternity. One month after that, there will be some other problems with the road/pavement/pipes or cables under the road/trees beside the road and a new Road Closed sign will go up...

In other news: I am too hot 🥵

IWanderedLonely · 07/09/2023 07:47

Mallards Grin that is accurate to perfection

BerfyTigot · 07/09/2023 09:19

I've lurked on these threads since they've started, and @MallardsMoorhensAndLethe description of roadworks is perfect and has made me laugh this morning. Thanks for making me de-lurk 😁

HildaTablet · 07/09/2023 09:28

I’m laughing at Mallard's perfect description too.

Welcome, @BerfyTigot . Great username 😉

Silkierabbit · 07/09/2023 14:10

Welcome Berfy glad Mallards could entice you out with her roadworks explanation.

Nice frog MissC

Hope it cools a bit Math

Hope parking solution is found Lemons

We have had 2 deafening days of road drilling for some street broadband cable which is thankfully finished but 8am to 6pm first day, argh but kitchen work. DS coped really well until the school Head decided he needed a Teams meeting with DS during this which was very well intentioned but the straw that broke the camels back. Luckily we had camera and sound off for DS so he didn't see the paper being thrown around the room.

DD went to school. Then next day just road drilling as kitchen people had a day off as asd child. I had call with cahms who thought DS behaviour normal and said to set up another meeting so just trying to do that. But our only contact seems to be school Head which seems silly. I am pushing the LA on what has been agreed but they aren't replying other than ed psych who has suggested a meeting. Cahms visits will stop which is fine and calls with me will continue which is fine again. Meeting next week between me, cahms and a new cahms specialist teacher. But no idea about what is happening with school. Need a lunch card etc. DS still haircut refusing and looking like a yeti but did take a bath without prompting.

DH moved the silkies chicken coop and run in preparation for the painting of outside of house which starts in about a months time but we have to clear all round house for c 3 metres in advance, not too much to go. Kitchen work resumed today. Went swimming on Tuesday, jacuzzi broken but used the rest, just 84 lengths as a bit tired atm but good. DD doing really well with A levels, uni applications and jobs. Seeing her boyfriend today. Having to be imaginative with meals with just a toaster, microwave and sandwich toaster and fridge. A few takeaways.

Silkierabbit · 07/09/2023 14:12

I love doughnuts too Havoc

Washing all bedding atm. Floof is delighted with amount of work going on everywhere for him to inspect but it is tiring.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/09/2023 16:52

Silkie, those delays for you DS sound so frustrating. Sending you support. 💖
Mallards, roadwork can be so tedious. I always face palm when I forget there is roadwork on my route and it's too late to take an alternate. 🤦‍♀️

Watching tv news. Depressing and infuriating report from Ontario about tragic deaths in care homes during initial covid pandemic with over 700 deaths. Minister at press conference was totally side-stepping talking about lessons that have been learned... 🤬
Not trying to start debate on our lovely calm thread, but God why weren't basic precautions taken?

Noticed something rough on top of Havoc's foot. Rubbed my finger over it saying, What's this? Havoc, "Peanut Butter." Yep, it was peanut butter. 🤷‍♀️

Have got a choc chip pecan banana bread in the oven. Will be painting soon. Plan is to finish Havoc's bedroom and one dining room wall before floor guys arrive later to review work plan. Initially told 4 days work needed, then 3, now 4 again. Asked for foreman and consultant to come by to finalize schedule as I need to book alternate accommodation during the work period as cannot have toddler running around with floors ripped up etc.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/09/2023 18:02

If anyone is in the neighbourhood, banana bread is ready and I'll make a pot of tea. 😛

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 26: Calmly through the day
Silkierabbit · 07/09/2023 18:04

That would be lovely Havoc just getting my helicopter over and will be on your roof in 10 minutes. 😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/09/2023 18:11

Great Silkie! Will you help me paint, too, please! (The banana bread is a bribe...). 😁

Silkierabbit · 07/09/2023 18:18

Of course and I'll bring Floof, he and Havoc can also help paint with paw prints.

Silkierabbit · 07/09/2023 18:20

If you are not in a rush DH has just gone to collect the silkies and rabbit from their holiday home and they could help too, completely unique look and you won't regret asking us!

Silkierabbit · 07/09/2023 18:21

Kitchen fitters have left for the day so its just Floof, DS and me atm.

MissConductUS · 07/09/2023 19:00

Welcome, @BerfyTigot, and thanks for being a loyal lurker and, even more thanks for delurking! Everyone should delurk! Honestly, it's lovely that you've joined us but a bit odd to think that you know so much about me/us.

Mallards, roadworks here can be a bit slow at times, but they are not the shambolic mess that you describe, thank goodness. They got the major repairs done quite quickly after the horrendous flooding we had on 9 July. I think they brought in contractors from all over the state for that mess. The crews that fix the roads here are not government employees, they are private construction companies on contract to the state Department of Transportation, who supervise their work.

Havoc, I'll take one of those chocolate frosted chocolate donuts. 😄Your banana bread looks divine. How old is Havoc now?

Silkie, I'm so glad your DD is doing well with her A levels and uni applications. The application process is so complicated here, and there are so many uni's to choose from that we hired an educational consultant to work with DS and DD on theirs. I don't know how we would have coped with her help. It was expensive, but much less expensive than going to the wrong uni. And it worked out; DS did really well at his, as has DD. I'm still a bit stunned to think that this is her last year. Good luck with the kitchen. I'm dreading having ours redone.

It's still blazing hot here, 34C. And Hurricane Lee is headed this way. They say it won't make landfall. Famous last words.

I should think Floof's tail would make a great paintbrush!

HelenaJustina · 07/09/2023 22:27

Since coming home from work, I’ve fed the DC, re-made lunchboxes for tomorrow, taken DC2 to swim training, been for a run, done a food shop, picked up DC2 from swimming, covered 3/7 exercise books for secondary age DCs and made dinner for DH… off to bed with a cup of tea and my Kindle!

HelenaJustina · 07/09/2023 22:28

No roadworks, hi-vis, banana bread or chickens in my day and I feel it’s lacking because of it!

BerfyTigot · 07/09/2023 23:35

@MissConductUS don't worry, my memory is dreadful, I only retain info for a very short time. Unless it's REALLY juicy of course 🤣

Giggorata · 07/09/2023 23:49

We have some of our oldest friends coming to stay next week. (50+ years)
We don't see them very often, but we seem to pick up where we left off.
We don't just talk about our counter culture youth, but discuss everything and something.
Woo Hoo.
