Lemons, how was first fay of nursery for ds?
Silkie, tears for last day of vacay.

Just on train to go downtown for appt.
$3.15 one way single zone.
Gorgeous fall day here. 😎

Silkierabbit · 01/09/2023 18:42

Thanks Mallards Hope you can make it fit.

Glad nice day Havoc

Glad work went well Lemons

Just in the Air mauritius lounge awaiting 10.45pm flight, 3 hours ahead here. First time used a lounge. They have fancy coffee with three layers and caramel, vanilla or whatever one you want. Nice seats. 12 hour flight back soon. Though had good films on way here and good music and we got free little bags with socks, toothpaste, toothbrush, eye mask and ear plugs and blankets. Way over was rows with 2 in which was perfect, way back is 3. Had orange chicken which was sweet and sour chicken and rice, coke, brie and grape and banana tart. And I am sure some fine airline food awaits (not)

HelenaJustina · 01/09/2023 21:08

INSET here as well lemons, with Mass at midday which is such a lovely way to start the academic year. When I am old I will go to Mass every day.

I stayed until the cleaners kicked me out at 5:30pm but got so much done! So productive when no children/parents in school to complicate things!

MissConductUS · 01/09/2023 21:13

Have a safe journey home Silkie.

Monday is a holiday here (Labor Day), so lots of people have taken today off too. I couldn't. On the plus side, my young duck friend swam right up to me today.

DH and DS are getting haircuts together tonight before dinner. I think it's adorable that they go together.

Not many people to tell about this, but I got 65% on my last essay I submitted for my course.

I also did 300 words of the next essay today.

MissConductUS · 01/09/2023 21:21

Welcome, @BluesandClues, and thanks for sharing your essay news. What are they about?

You are well ahead of me Blues I have done nothing towards my next assignment due on the 25th!

mathanxiety · 01/09/2023 22:38

We arrived safely in Boston and so did the mattress. DD3 is currently snoozing on it after a trip to Target near the fabled Fenway Park, where 120,000 students and their families were also shopping for dorm and apartment stuff. I had a cup of tea at 4 so I'm not completely dead on my feet after our 3am start, and I'm hanging her clothes and making a list of stuff I need to send her when I get home.

Silkierabbit · 02/09/2023 18:14

Thanks MissC Have a lovely day off.

We are now back home. We got a room in Holiday Inn by airport for last few hours then airport lounge so pre flight was very easy and nice but Air Mauritius 12 hour night flight was tough going as very cramped, think made for tiny people. I was in the middle seat and lady next to me was taking part of my small seat and putting her rubbish in my seat pocket as she had an extra legroom seat with no seat pocket. So no sleep for me.

DH picked us up at Heathrow and made us tea. He had given me a soppy card with cuddling penguins on. Kitchen is coming on but still needs another week or so. Floof is happy we are back. Had toasted cheese and onion sandwich and cheesecake.

Just catching up..

I am in awe of all the essays and assignments being done !

Glad the travellers have all reached their destinations safely.

( sorry for no tagging...hard to do lots on my phone !)

Well ...I have come to the conclusion that my lazy way and approach to cooking sometimes pays off 🤣.

I didn't have enough milk for my mashed potatoes the other day ( when I was waiting for the hot water man ) so I just used lots of butter.

Mashed them and put the whole lot ...yep including saucepan ! In the fridge .

Thursday I made the filling for shepherd's pie.

Cold mash was a bit hard by now .

I loosened it with a bit of oil...but gave up and just plonked it as best as I could over the filling.

Was going to smooth and fork it over once warmed a bit.

I got distracted ( that story will follow!)

Well....it turned out to be the best shepherd's pie I have ever made 🤣

The mash /topping was so lovely and crispy.!

An accidental success 🤣🤣!

bizzey · 02/09/2023 19:30

My distraction news .....

DS sent me a photo of him and his gf in their new flat....that I didn't even know they were looking for 🤣!

The right flat, for the right price , in the right area came up and 2 weeks later they got the keys !!

No furniture mind ...but they are young and can slow sort that all out !!

So I presume I have an official grown up adult son now in his little 1 bedroom flat ! 🤣

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/09/2023 22:21

Bizzey, saw the super moon last might with dc. I was pointing to it saying, Look at the big moon! DC was pointing, saying, Moon. Oh, moon. Then fell asleep. 🤷‍♀️

You might find these links about moons/super moons interesting. I do, but I am a bit 🤓

What Is a Supermoon?

When the Full Moon or occurs near the Moon's closest approach to Earth, its perigee, it is often called a supermoon.

bizzey · 02/09/2023 23:15

Havoc thank you !
I am a 🤓🤓🤓 as well !

Love learning new things .

(Though no way could I write essays or assignments on them !)

On the hunt for a new quiz/trivia type game for us for our annual family gift .

bizzey · 02/09/2023 23:18

Something ds3 and I noticed was that even the next night the sky seemed different..
We were both fascinated at that !

sproutsandparsnips · 03/09/2023 12:53

DS climbed up the local hill to see it (not sure why, maybe he thought he'd be a bit closer!) but it was cloudy so didn't see much.

Lemonsandlemonade · 03/09/2023 16:09

Took DS to an animal place today. DS loved feeding all the animals.

Math, we both have a child attending uni in Massachusetts. DS attended in one of the suburbs north of Boston. It's a fabulous smaller city. DD's uni is fairly rural, so no nearby Target, unfortunately.

Silkie, I'm glad you made it home safe and sound. A twelve hour flight sounds awful. I'm sure Floof is delighted that you've returned.

The posh Italian supermarket had lobsters on sale for $7.99 per pound due to the Labor Day long weekend, so we had steamed lobsters for dinner last night. It's a summer treat.

I've been getting up before dawn and walking yesterday and today, so have seen plenty of the Super Moon. This morning I was still walking at sunrise, so took these pictures from the same place, about 15 minutes apart. It's hot outside today, so I wanted to get my walk in early.

Floof is very happy MissC and was delighted when I woke early at 6.30am on Sunday as Mauritius is 3 hours ahead. He decided everyone should be up at this time and started poking DH.

I love flying so 12 hour flight is fine for me normally, like just having music and films for 12 hours and seeing the clouds and daydreaming about holidays but the seats were the most cramped ever. On way out was just 2 seats for us so fine, it was way back where I was in middle of a 3 next to a person who needed 1.5 seats and for some reason our seats were too high and feet couldn't touch ground which put pressure on knees which are achey with Tamoxifen. I was also jittery as higher risk for blood clots so did some walking around. Plus we had coughing constantly all 12 hours Mum with whiney child across from us who I suspect had covid. The child's whining was a bit amusing, first 20 minutes was I want a crocodile, crocodile, crocodile on repeat then we moved on to Daddy on repeat then Mummy on repeat. I did suspect child might be asd and did feel for the Mum as everyone was looking at them though in a thank goodness that isn't my child and we only have 12 hours of this sort of way.

DD is preparing personal statement for university and keeps asking my advice. Just getting washing and gardening done and meals with no kitchen. We also have to prepare for outside of house work. I have sent an e-mail to the school DS is due to start as we still have heard nothing from them and term starts Tuesday. Though tbf its LAs fault by not getting place until summer holidays and school has been great.

Hoovered upstairs. Told DS about holiday and how we missed him and that he is great. It was the first time since hospital start when I told him he is great he didn't hiss.

Silkierabbit · 03/09/2023 18:30

Lemons Those look like our silkies. Glad it went well.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/09/2023 22:42

Silkie, I enjoy air travel, too. Sounds like progress with DS. 😊
Mushy cards are sweet.

I'm now halfway through season 5 of The Crown. Definitely forming some opinions. 🤣
Planning on re-watching Billions from the beginning before starting recent two seasons.
I think it will be Succession after that.

It has been feeling a bit muggy today and now it is raining a bit and it's quite nice.

Havoc is napping, so what I should be doing is some painting...🤔

Dinner will be chicken stew over rice. (Roast chicken yesterday.)

Miss, lobster dinner sounds yum! 😛
Costco here has them on special at holidays.

Silkierabbit · 03/09/2023 23:09

Thanks Havoc Lovely sounding dinner.

DH put the cable for the lawn mower through the downstairs window and went to mow the lawn. Didn't work and he found Floof by the silkie's house and Floof is meant to be indoor only due to lack of brain cells. He saw DH had seen him and took himself to the backdoor to let himself in again but it was shut so he looked panicked. DH then let him in.

Silkierabbit · 04/09/2023 06:55

I woke at 6.10am and Floof was so happy and staggered over half asleep, gave me a poke with his paws with no claws a few times then collapsed and fell back asleep. He's just got up on hearing DH wake. Now having his breakfast and am sure a big sleep will be coming after.

Silkierabbit · 04/09/2023 07:08

DH just said to me there's a really cute ladybird in the house, I hope Floofy doesn't see it. Then 30 seconds later DH Floofy what are you doing to the ladybird. He wouldn't deliberately harm one, he just loves to play with everything and he's big and clumsy pawed.

MissConductUS · 04/09/2023 15:52

Mum, I had to Google Billions. As a New Yorker, I couldn't watch a series about Wall Street finance bros. I've met too many of them in person. The weather's been hot and muggy here too. We may hit 32 C today, which I think would be a record.

Silkie, do you have an electric lawn mower? And why didn't it work? Our ginger cat is a fierce bird hunter. I have sometimes found a dead wren or other small bird he's killed or wounded on the deck. I dread the idea of one getting in the house.

We had our first Zoom call with DD since she returned to uni. She has quite a nice single room in one of the older dorms. She's ready to start her on campus job of giving admission tours and the crew team is back together. It's hard to believe this is her last year.

Here's a picture of the ginger menace asleep, with his friend Frosty the penguin, out of his fancy heated cat bed.

Love the sweet cat pic, Miss. 😍
Billions is an excellent series.
Give it a try? I do agree with the gross excess and attitudes to match - which is prob why it is so fascinating. Writing and cast are spot on.
In contrast, it's a cooler and cloudy Labour Day here. Had a nice sleep in until 9:15am with Havoc waking at 9:30am. I was awake 4-5:30am, though...
Managed to get some walls painted last night and have a painting plan for today when Havoc is napping. Just slowly getting going here....Hope everyone is having a good Monday. 😊
