Silkie, sounds like perfect weather so far and a great start to your holiday! 😍

natura · 25/08/2023 19:24

Gosh I'm always so grateful for these threads. Back after a NC.

We've had weeks of a heatwave (and wildfires) where I live, and for the first time in months I can smell rain on the air. Have everything crossed that the skies will finally open tonight.

Silkierabbit · 25/08/2023 20:00

Congrats Lemons An A is great.

Thanks Lemons and Havoc re holiday. Yes it's been perfect weather today for us, our perfect temp and sunny. The taxi driver was so nice too, told us about sugar cane and tourism and took the most scenic route to hotel even though its an included transfer.

Welcome back Natura Yes it's such a lovely thread.

HildaTablet · 25/08/2023 20:45

That looks beautiful, Silkie. Hope you and DD have a marvellous time.

sproutsandparsnips · 25/08/2023 21:13

Gosh a lot of catching up to do!
Congrats to Bizzey DS and to Lemons
What lovely photos Silkie it looks amazing!
Helena you are all very brave!
Math hope you survived the heat.
Lovely photos of mama duck Miss
I am going to say on here what I can't in real life* - so proud of DS as he has worked so hard and was so anxious of results. He has all As except for Welsh 2nd language where he had a B.
Although last night they went out celebrating and his lovely friend's mum had to phone me to fetch DS as he had overindulged (very much out of character, I can only surmise the pressure relief got to him, he usually is very restrained on the odd occasions he drinks). Picked him up and he went to bed and was up like a button today. Bought his friend's mum some chocolates to thank her and apologise.
Also will add some photos of Canada/Alaska. Havoc how is the fire situation?
Cannot add DS's excellent photos only my rubbish ones!

sproutsandparsnips · 25/08/2023 21:17

Eek I have fallen foul of technology. Not sure what happened. Meant to say A stars, don't know why it bolded it all!
Also pictures did not add. Will try again.
Nope can't do it!

HelenaJustina · 25/08/2023 21:38

So many congratulations Lemon what a fantastic achievement. And to your son Sprouts you must be madly proud!

Last full day today, we went to Tenby and Barafundle Bay. Despite a decidedly dodgy forecast, the weather held all day and was glorious for the beach late afternoon. Have to be out of the cottage by 9am tomorrow which will be a challenge…

sproutsandparsnips · 25/08/2023 21:56

You can't go wrong with Tenby Helena!
We have had distinctly dodgy weather here, a bit further east, so you have been lucky. My washing got wet.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 25/08/2023 22:05

Beautiful pics Silkie and Sprout.

Hope you're ok Natura with the fires and haven't been too badly affected. Sounds hellish.

I've been watching old films while I tidied up and decluttered. Currently on Rebel Without A Cause I've got another bag ready to go to the charity shop now.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/08/2023 23:06

Sprouts, nice pic and congratulations to you DS. It's not easy getting top marks. 😃
Why can't you share irl? Is it a bit like tall poppy? Can you at least say he did really well?
wildfire smoke is getting bad here again.Had a reprieve for two days, but now it's worse than before. Sore throat and sinuses after being out for only 5 mins. We badly need rain in this province -and lots of it.

Silkierabbit · 26/08/2023 12:56

A big congratulations to your DS and you Sprouts wonderful results. Lovely holiday pic too. Would love to see more pics, I love travel photos especially where not been.

Thanks Hilda We are both loving the holiday.

Hope wildfires aren't too bad Havoc

Have good journey back Helena

We had a lovely day, breakfast overlooking beach. I had pancakes with cinnamon sugar and fresh fruit with orange juice and coffee and DD had an English breakfast. Then we went on glass bottom boat ride to see corals and tropical fish, then a second boat ride and snorkelling. Then drinks at beach bar. Then Italian for lunch which is a la carte. We had lovely cocktails with flowers, 1 pink colada with alcohol and 1 without each. And I had the fish of the day with veg, dourade, DD had pasta and we both had creme brulee. Then lay on the sunbeds by the beach for 30 mins. Dinner tonight at Chinese which is a la carte. I really want the dim sum.

Silkierabbit · 26/08/2023 12:59

Some pics from today. I also took some on my underwater disposable camera which I am sure will be good, not, but have to wait to be back in UK to process.

TodaysTheShay · 26/08/2023 16:11

Well done on the GCSE results for all that were waiting on them. It's been thundering loudly here for a couple of hours but no rain yet.

HildaTablet · 26/08/2023 17:00

Wow, Silkie, is that a crème brûlée? 😍😋
Our cooker came too - the black version of yours.

Congrats to all the exam-passers, it’s great to hear some good news. I’m just on my way back from central London and got caught in an epic storm. Proper thunder and lightning and torrential rain. The sun’s out now!

Silkierabbit · 26/08/2023 19:30

Yes that is the creme brulee Hilda. You have good taste in cookers.

Just had Chinese. Had lychee and coconut milk mocktail and dim sum, then noodles with shrimp, veg and egg then banana katsu with mango sorbet which was DD described as a posh banana fritter. DD had ramen, veg spring rolls, veg noodles and posh banana fritter and a lychee mocktail then a pina colada mocktail. There were some local stalls on the way back, DD asked them if they took apple pay as she wanted to buy a dodo but we dont have any local cash, the Mauritian rupee but they only take cash. 😂

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 27/08/2023 01:28

Hope you're not too wet Hilda

I'll do a rain dance for you Havoc 💃🌧️

Oh wow, tropical fish Silkie 🐠🐟 I'd love to have seen those.

Today I went to the park in between rain showers. Ducks 🦆 on the pond, squirrels 🐿️ in the trees, bees 🐝 on the flowers, horses 🐴 and goats 🐐 in the fields.

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/08/2023 07:33

Helena hope you had a lovely time in Pembrokeshire. It is a lovely part of the world. Hope Tenby wasn’t too busy!

Silkie hope you continue to have a relaxing holiday.

Hope you didn’t get too wet Mallard

Currently toilet training here version 2.0 as last time DS was very poorly and it all went to pot. This time it’s different DS into it although there are accidents it’s much more smooth. Want him done before I return to school next week.

Looking into a PGCE and realistically Would need to do one on the job just need to see if school would endorse it!

Silkierabbit · 27/08/2023 11:04

Park with animals sounds lovely Mallards

Hope you can get a pgse place Lemons Shortage by us.

We had breakfast and the man with a golf buggy gave us a lift there which was nice. Had pancakes with brown sugar and apple juice. DD had a big breakfast with omelette, pancakes, some English breakfast.

Then DD decided she would like to go on the tube boat, which is like a banana boat with speedboat attached. They only took cash so changed money at reception and booked. Most watersports are included here. Dd and I went on it and she asked for it to go fast. It was fun but so fast. Dd said it was a teenage activity.

Then went to infinity pool and swam a little and walked along beach. Just had a shower. Italian a la carte booked for dinner at 6.30pm. We are debating what to do about lunch.

HelenaJustina · 27/08/2023 16:47

Tenby was madly busy lemons so glad we weren’t staying there! We did kayaking before coming home. Long drive with horrendous rain burst on the M4 but otherwise fine and not too busy. Quietish day today ready for a beach trip with family tomorrow!

MissConductUS · 27/08/2023 17:18

Sprouts, congratulations to your DS on his fabulous results! Does he have a year of high school left or is he going to uni or something else? I confess that your academic testing schedule is a mystery to me.

Silkie, your holiday destination looks better than Orlando.

Good luck with the toilet training and PGCE. Toilet training was a bit of a slog with my DS. At first, he was scandalized by the very idea of, as if I was suggesting something highly improper.

DD is on her way back to uni today. She has good weather for the drive and should be there by midafternoon. She spent yesterday with her boyfriend and go up early to finish packing. Remarkably, she got everything into her car, so I won't have to make a trip to Massachusetts next weekend. She took some plants from the deck garden, a wander jew, and two spider plants, I think.

The deck garden is in late summer bloom. I found this frog friend on the grill last night when I went to water the plants.

Love the frog pic MissC. We had them in my garden as a child. A pond full of frogspawn every summer.

Fingers crossed for the PCGE lemons

sproutsandparsnips · 27/08/2023 21:59

Ah lovely frog picture Miss. DS is 16 and will go to college for 2 years to do ALevels but there are many other options available post 16. He will hopefully then go to university.
That looks and sounds amazing Silkie.
There has been terrible traffic on the A40 going down west Helena so it is a good job you were not travelling down today!
I will try to put in some more photos but not sure how successful I will be.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/08/2023 22:13

Hope everyone had a good Sunday. 😃
Quite smokey here and temp is 30c, so it's pretty gross. Indoors all day today. 🙁
Havoc has just fallen asleep for a nap and I am watching season 4 of The Crown. 😊
I also keep looking at the baseboards and the paint and sanding blocks I have sitting on the deck waiting to be put to work. ... yeah. 🤷‍♀️

Had a nice lunch of chicken salad on croissant which was just left-over rotisserie chicken from Costco chopped up and mixed with mayo and green grapes simply sliced in half. Try it! 😛
I'm reading everyone's news and with interest. 🤓
Gorgeous "cooker" Silkie. We say "oven" here, so I smile at the quite literal British term.
🥰
