What a lovely thread, so glad I found you all.

I walked up a lovely hill today and it made me happy (and tired). It was followed by a chocolate almond and cherry cake which didn't have enough chocolate, almond or cherry in it and was dry 😟

MissConductUS · 13/08/2023 20:27

Welcome, @DisforDarkChocolate, and thanks for sharing your calming ambulatory and snacking news. Where did you procure the disappointing cake?

I drank too much coffee trying to remain alert in my very long meeting at work yesterday and had bad insomnia last night. We have some severe thunderstorms come through last night, which didn’t help. When I went out this morning I noticed that a large tree branch had fallen on DD’s car and put a large dent in the windshield. It’s not drivable. DH rang our car insurance company and booked a replacement for Thursday.

All in all, not a great weekend.

My television's got stuck at the "Starting Up" stage. I've followed all the Virgin help suggestions, and nothing's happened; so I'll have to ring them tomorrow.

Silkierabbit · 13/08/2023 21:04

Sorry to hear about the car MissC

Thanks Bizzey

Welcome to the newbies.

I love pancakes Havoc

Both DH and I slept into midday again, I struggled to sleep until middle of night but at least had a good sleep when got to sleep. Washed my bedding and put new bedding on. Black bin is out and full, DD made 3 big sacks from her room, clothes I suspect as she orders so many. Hoovered downstairs so whole house done, living room cleaned and kitchen cleaned. Parcel collected of 3 dresses for holiday. DS was told yesterday about his new school and given the letter and he's been keeping it in his bed along with their uniform. Floof has been very trilly and playful. Ordered 1 part for kitchen, got 1 more to track down and the cooker to sort but got the man coming round to discuss that.

TodaysTheShay · 13/08/2023 21:56

First time I've heard of grape tomatoes too! I've got some baby plum tomatoes in the fridge that look very similar to the description though...long and almost egg shaped?
The most exciting thing that has happened here today is that someone has put the wrong colour bin out and now half the street have followed suit.....there will be chaos tomorrow! I'm standing firm with my decision....blue bin for the win 😂

bizzey · 13/08/2023 22:00

Ohhhh I love a bit of bingate wars Todays..
Let me know how it goes !!

Silkierabbit · 13/08/2023 22:13

That happened here once Today the whole street put the wrong bin out apart from us. I told DH it was the other one and we were right. 😂

bizzey · 13/08/2023 22:19

I must be in a minority where I live !
Everything goes out on the same day once a week !

halfpasteleven · 13/08/2023 22:36

Yes please for the pancake recipe Havoc- I suspect you will be posting more than just the pancake one though!

Hope your DS is feeling ok about school Silkie and I'm in awe of your efforts to get him to this stage.

Sorry to hear about your DDs car MissC- the power of nature.. at least no one was hurt.

Did some batch cooking today for when I return to work; bolognese made with turkey mince, sausage casserole and chicken korma. ( We are all the chicken korma as it was delicious).

halfpasteleven · 13/08/2023 22:36

*ate

Silkierabbit · 13/08/2023 23:12

Wow Bizzey you will start bin collection envy there. 😂Only every other week here and once a month for green bin half the year.

Thanks Half Yes he's reacting well to school news, keeping letter and uniform on his bed but is also a bit overwhelmed by it all. He seems to want it but I don't know if he will be able to get past fear of leaving house. But a school place is a start. And it's a lovely school.

Silkierabbit · 13/08/2023 23:12

We love korma here as well.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/08/2023 23:44

My (lengthy) post commenting on Miss' and Silkie's posts and comments about the pancake recipe vanished... I mentioned trying decaf and sympathy for the car damage. 💖

Pancakes: I do the math for 2/3 recipe. It makes a lot. Bowl 1 dry ingredients and I sift baking power and baking soda with flour. I use salted butter and not oil (yuk, really) so skip adding salt. Whisk wet and dump into dry. Mix until just combined. I use a flat ladle that measures about 1/4c for each pancake. I make them all quickly so as not to lose the co2 (?) bubbles from the vinegar/soda, so last ones get eaten. I use two electric griddles at 370f for cooking them and butter the pans (flavour, crisp, nice colour). I think I got 12 today. The recipe video is on YouTube. It really was a good find! Please post your results!!! 😀

Silkierabbit · 14/08/2023 09:39

Thanks Havoc I am just drinking tea and DH said I bought you a portuguese tart yesterday but forgot to tell you, would you like it now? I said is it still there? DH replied yes then came back no DS ate it. Then DH went to the shop to get me another one. I just had it with a cup of tea.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 14/08/2023 14:07

Today's news: It was a nightmare. There's no digger and huge hole where the drive used to be. I don't have to go searching for my car. Great!

Other news: I wasn't dreaming, someone really is trying to use a chainsaw while I take a nap. Now I'm awake and so naturally they've finished. Don't you just love people?

Now: I am intregued and must check the family tree documents instantly for the card I am picturing from the registry office in Pembrokeshire 2019. Did my grandparents really not get married until how old?...ah, no. They were both long dead. Definitely a dream then.

bizzey · 14/08/2023 14:26

Bit of a miserable day here.

But I have decided I am going to cook !!

Not in Havoc's league of Cooking I assure you ....
Just a simple shepherd 's pie !

Really feels like October here 😔

bizzey · 14/08/2023 14:28

But I am going to cook it differently for a change.

Going to simmer it all in a big saucepan instead of drying it out in the frying pan !

MissConductUS · 14/08/2023 14:29

I heard on the news today that this is the 20th anniversary of the great east coast blackout that left 50 million people in the US without power. I recall it clearly because we were moving into this house on that day and was unpacking boxes in the kitchen when the power went out. I assumed that the moving van had hit the power pole on it's way out, only to find that it wasn't just us.

The kids were one and three at the time. I had no food in the house, no lights, and no working fridge. DH went to the deli and bought bagged ice and some food. Fun times.

Silkie, how sweet of your dh to go buy you another one. He looooves you. 💖😍🥰
I make my coffee half decaf half regular in the pot. It's perfect for me! 🤓
Bizzey, what time is dinner?! 😃 I haven't had shepherd's pie in ages. I put mine in pastry. Not traditional, I know, but I just love a good pie crust with some filling. Actually, I can get on quite a pastry kick in winter and make some sort of savoury pies for dinner every week . 😛😛😛
Miss, it's funny how a memory can take you right back to a moment, isn't it?
Mallard, I recommend headphones/ear plugs.
it's much better to prevent annoyance than to have to recover from it. I'm all for calm. If it wasn't for Havoc I'd go to sleep wearing earplugs and a sleep mask as I had done for years. Highly recommend. (God, I miss those wonderfully peaceful and deep sleeps...).

Re pancakes recipe: I forgot to specify melted butter in lieu of oil.

It's getting warm here... 30c yesterday, but not too bad. But, now everything else has warmed up, so it's a bit uncomfortable. I've got fans on and windows and doors open while the air is still a bit cool.

Havoc had a good 12 hour sleep; I had about 7.
Having a latte and some banana bread while laundry is on. More painting today - going to tackle hall closet and sort boxes including Christmas decorations. I'm happy to report bedroom closest and shelves are now bright white. 😎

bizzey · 14/08/2023 18:33

Ta daaa !!!

( Please excuse the years old baking tray !!
It is only used to put these heavy things on so I can get it in/out oven easier !!)

Boys are happy bunnies !!

Lemonsandlemonade · 14/08/2023 19:34

What is this madness about bin collection once a week or fortnight we are three weekly with a view to going four weekly.

Green garden waste is charged at £100 for 6 collections April to October.

at hotel at ferry port ready for our holiday tomorrow

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/08/2023 21:10

Looks good, Bizzey!
Enjoy your holiday, Lemons!

I read with amusement the bin stories! It's so funny how we second guess ourselves when someone does something out of routine then we follow... I had a tough time when our bin schedule changed. For the life of me I could not get the days right for the longest time and always missed it. 🤦‍♀️

Silkierabbit · 14/08/2023 21:50

Have a wonderful holiday Lemons Shocking bin collection.

Lovely food Bizzey

Just been swimming, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi but shattered and only did 68 lengths. Floof has gone on velvet duvet for ds and put new rug down for ds.

sproutsandparsnips · 14/08/2023 22:02

Yes have a fab holiday Lemons!
Sadly Rhos on sea is North Wales so a long way from me Iwandered. I have been meaning to go to Aberavon to swim in sea but not got there yet.......
The talk of bins has reminded me that I have got confused as to which bins are out this week as we have been away for 2 weeks. I will have to take the lead from the neighbours.......
Bizzey that looks delicious.

Nicecupofteaforthree · 14/08/2023 22:05

I was all excited about going to a new crafting group today. I dragged myself out of bed and onto the bus.... and it was cancelled.
