Bizzey that looks delicious.. real comfort food and sadly, perfect for this weather!

I made spaghetti and meatballs for dinner this evening. Meatballs were pork this eve and very tasty but we usually have turkey.

Hope you enjoyed the sauna Silkie.

Our bin collection is every fortnight, the three bins together.. so not too hard to forget but I still have to write it down!

TodaysTheShay · 14/08/2023 22:20

Well nobody won the bin wars here this morning as the bin men didn't come, apparently they are on strike. Lovely pie @bizzey! I made lasagne but no photo before the kids devoured it!
I've just got back from the cinema, The Meg 2....absolutly rediculous storyline but lots of Jason Statham eye candy so im happy.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 15/08/2023 00:31

That made me laugh Today. Hopefully they'll turn up tomorrow instead. Jason Statham mmmmm 🤤

Thanks Havoc I do have earphones and eye mask, usually it's very quiet here daytimes though. Need to get more sleep so I don't need a nap in the first place.

I've been stargazing.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/08/2023 03:09

Mallard, The meteor shower?

Dinner was salmon filet which I glazed with a mix of soy sauce, garlic clove and brown sugar; served with simple jasmine rice that I tossed a cup of frozen mixed veg into; and roasted asparagus tossed with garlic butter. It was quite good! (I typically like salmon fairly plain).
Dessert was Cherry Garcia "ice cream" wirh added pecans, a McVitie's dark choco digestive and a marshmallow. 😛
Watched part of a re-run of an interview with Princess Margaret done here earlier this year and am about to put The Crown on Nexflix. Re-watching it and am on season 2. I wonder if any of the RF have watched it... 🤓

Another lovely meal, havoc 😋

There was much muttering locally here when the council sent round a letter changing our bin schedule. We have three bins - general waste, paper/glass/cans etc, and garden waste, which we have to pay for (we have 2 of those actually as we have a big garden). Normally it’s a cycle of black one week, green and blue together the next.

But they switched suddenly to make it black and blue together, meaning we had the excitement of two garden waste collections in 2 weeks. The drama!!

(On reflection, this may be the most dull post ever put on this or indeed any thread)

GingerLiberalFeminist · 15/08/2023 08:38

I got three baskets of washing done yesterday. The last one is still in the tumble dryer (Mumsnet crime I know!) But everything else is folded and away!!

Silkierabbit · 15/08/2023 08:39

We have the option of paying for a second green bin here about 40 pounds a year but DH is very opposed to me doing that. Instead he will ram everything in the first one. No way the council are getting more money out of him.

HildaTablet · 15/08/2023 08:45

Haha, Silkie, we just can’t go back to carting loads of green waste to the tip. When we first got the second bin they weren’t charging; you had to pay upfront for the extra bin but collections were free. Then they sneakily hit everyone with this annual charge out of the blue. It’s worth it for us, though it is annoying.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/08/2023 18:00

Silkie, had to laugh and nod at your dh's take. I think everyone pretty much has something like that they won't budge on. For me, years ago it was paying for plastic shopping bags at the grocery store. I was incensed and indignant over 5 cents a bag (and I may have snuck them at the self checkout... )🤣🤣🤣
(for the record I now have at least 50 reusable bags)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/08/2023 03:10

What to do with left overs????
Salmon and prawn fried rice! 😛It's quite warm here, 30c, so not much getting done even though the to-do list is long....🤷‍♀️😅

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 26: Calmly through the day
Silkierabbit · 16/08/2023 03:23

That looks lovely Havoc

We had fish and chips for dinner from the fish and chip shop and they were really nice.

The neighbouring council is starting charges for green bin so I wouldn't be amazed if we go the same way though the council tax is already high here.

I have been buying things for trip to Mauritius and for DH's birthday. He loves cheese so have ordered lots of nice cheeses and accompaniments from a specialist shop here and also a big cake from the bakers. DD is planning on taking DH punting for the day that day.

We have had hardly any summery days this summer. It hasn't bothered us too much as we go swimming indoors and DS doesn't want to leave house still but it doesn't really feel like summer. Though I struggle with heat so prefer the lower temp. DD had people from Mauritius on her tour today.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/08/2023 03:44

Thanks, Silkie. Was pretty good!
It sounds like your dh's b-day will have lots of yummy food! 😛😛😛
Havoc's eating has become a bit hit and miss which I'm chalking up to normal toddler behaviour and having been sick so much. While I was making dinner and pre-occupied at the stove I heard eggs cracking and Havoc was sitting on the floor in front of the fridge cracking hard-boiled (thankfully!) eggs I had cooker earlier. Then ate the white of one leaving me to locate the yolk which had rolled away. Then didn't eat dinner because didn't like the fork given. So, I've changed forks and am now trying to coax a bit more food. Havoc wants to watch dog videos and touch my teeth, though. 🤷‍♀️("Teeth? Teeth?", says Havoc.).

Lemonsandlemonade · 16/08/2023 05:56

Havoc - lucky they were hard boiled eggs !!!Toddlers can be so fussy about things can’t they. With DS we kind of offer what we offer and if he eats it great if not then that’s ok too.

Silkie- Cheese related birthday treats sound lovely.

Took the long ferry 6 hours to France - DS loved it he was so happy.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/08/2023 06:38

Lemons, enjoy your trip!
yes, and grapes get requested a lot lately.

Good night, everyone. 😴

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 16/08/2023 14:15

I missed the meteor shower Havoc, I'm trying to see what I can spot in the sky and looking it up in my book to learn the constellations. It's so peaceful outside in the dark of night staring at the sky.

Dinner was salmon filet which I glazed with a mix of soy sauce, garlic clove and brown sugar; served with simple jasmine rice that I tossed a cup of frozen mixed veg into; and roasted asparagus tossed with garlic butter.

I'm going to try this it sounds delicious.

I'm watching The Crown at the moment too, just reached the end of season 4. I've got DVD so now I have to buy season 5.

Silkie I'm with your DH on the cheese. I love cheese.

On the subject of bins I'm getting worried about maggots. They want to make the main bin 3 weekly collection. It's annoying because at the moment I usually have a little space left but if they lengthen the cycle I won't, so what then if I have a household item(s) to get rid of? Suppose it's a PITA trip to the tip or a £10 fee per item for collection 😠. Plus maggots. I refuse to recycle food waste, it's disgusting having it sitting in a special bin purifying until I put it out. I have a shockingly tiny kitchen too so it'd take up essential countertop space. I don't have much food waste so it goes in the main bin. I'm really tired of the recycling sitting around on the countertop too. No room for two more separate bins on the floor. I'm not convinced they recycle any of it. I just want to put my trash in one bin and take it out at the end of the day. Not have a kitchen that whiffs from all the packaging lying around. I know it's not very environmental of me but I'm sick of it 😔. My spare countertop that isn't housing the microwave kettle or toaster, is the space of two plates, one of which is taken up by the pile of dirty dishes that accumulates throughout the day. Without recycling taking up room the worktop would be the space of three and a half plates. I have to clear the wet dishes off the drainer just so I can make a darn sandwich. Kitchen woes 😒

Today I'm pottering around doing all the things I didn't get done the past couple of days.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/08/2023 14:33

Mallard, it was 1tbsp soy sauce, 1tsp brown sugar, 1 finely minced small-ish garlic clove. So maybe a tsp or so. I just winged it with what I had on hand. You might find an actual recipe as I think this is a sort of teriyaki. I added the veg to to rice at cooking. And I put the asparagus on the same baking tray as the salmon then tossed in the garlic butter when I removed it. Just check it doesn't over cook.

I am fully intending to try and get back to sleep but Havoc now has milk and I've done a diaper change and Havoc seems a bit restless... it. Is. Not. Playtime. 🥱🥱🥱

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 16/08/2023 15:58

Thanks Havoc that's really helpful ☺️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/08/2023 16:12

...yeah, apparently it is playtime. 🤦‍♀️
Have now got a latte, a large slice of banana bread and am trying to convince Havoc it's not time for ice-cream while Havoc plays with the empty ice cream containers and ice-cream scoop asking for a "Taste? Taste?"Was going to make two banana breads since I have 6 mushy bananas on the counter, but am short the necessary flour.
Have perused the chat forums and have found the dilemma about feeding the neighbourhood's children (op's home is gathering place central) interesting. OP has older kids, but is on mat leave atm with a nb and has taken on feeding everyone daily. I would be dying....
Looking forward to everyone's news today.
Miss, is your dd's car fixed?

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 16/08/2023 18:21

In the name of decluttering, reorganising and cleaning (that's the other thread I've joined), I've pulled out a whole pile of boxes from an area to get to the ones in the back corner that I wanted to relocate elsewhere. Now I'm sitting around, exhausted, looking at the mess and thinking what have I done?! 🥴

Silkierabbit · 16/08/2023 18:30

Have a wonderful holiday Lemons Glad your DS liked the ferry.

I have just hoovered all the upstairs mainly fluff from Floof and polystyrene balls from rabbit who decided to take a bit out of DSs pouff. The cahms home visit are visiting tomorrow instead of their usual Monday, man has been off last 4 weeks due to holiday then hospitalised on holiday. He really isn't the type to notice the house and doesn't come upstairs but good to get it done anyway.

Lots of parcels to collect. Tamoxifen is collected, Sainsburys order for Mauritius is collected, now at Post Office for 3 more deliveries (a sloth, a bag for hand luggage and a Boden jumper). The cheese order is also ready for collection, 3 other parcels to arrive and 1 cake. I always order loads before going away.

Lovely meals as ever Havoc

I am also hoping our bins never get reduced Mallards

MissConductUS · 16/08/2023 18:37

Mum, the glass shop's first appointment was tomorrow afternoon, so I am going to WFH to be there to give them the key. We could have done it sooner by towing it to the shop, but it wasn't that urgent. I also wanted to get a genuine Subaru windshield, not a generic replacement, so that delayed it a bit. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that we currently own four cars.

We get three bin collections a week by the town. Rubbish is collected on Tuesday, paper recycling on Wednesday, and mixed glass/plastic/metal recycling on Thursday. One Friday a month, they do a bulk pickup and take away large items like furniture.

I just walked around the reservoir. No duck sightings recently, which may just be bad luck.

Three bin collections a week! <faints>

I’ve got a lot of useful stuff sorted today - had the plumber round to take off some radiators so we can have some plastering done, and he gave the boiler its annual service while he was here. Also mixed and sprayed home-made weed killer (an experiment) on the horrendous liverwort that’s colonising our gravel drive. Did various shopping trips to buy small but essential things.

It’s fish van day so I bought some lovely haddock and made oven-baked fish with sliced tomatoes, peppers, onions and tiny potatoes, sprinkled with capers and torn-up basil and seasoned. You cook the veg in an oven dish a bit first until tender then lay the fish on top, add another sliced tomato on top of it, then back into the oven till just done. It was really delicious.

Silkierabbit · 16/08/2023 23:49

Wow three bin collections a week MissC I think that puts you top of the bin collection league on here.

That sounds like a very productive day Hilda

We have just had steak in red wine sauce, new potatoes and brocolli and after had a sponge pudding and custard. I just had a toasted sandwich for lunch and a Portuguese tart for breakfast. Gave DS the soft toy sloth I bought him.

bizzey · 17/08/2023 05:25

Well I am awake at silly o'clock time (for where I am!) to finally realize that my favourite pillow .....is not my favourite pillow anymore!!!

Been woken with to really bad neck pain !
Again !

Maybe all those adverts I get about neck pillows are really trying to tell me something after all !!

Got Voltarol (heat rub thing ) over it now ...(I stink 🤣🤣!)

Starting to think ...maybe good pillows and mattresses are not such a bad thing after all 🤣!
