That sounds lovely Havoc I especially love anything pickled.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/08/2023 02:11

Silkie, I also like pickled asparagus, and carrots; and occasionally hot mix pickles. 😛
Have you done the Aug 12 wordle? I got today's (Aug 11) on last try. 😅

Silkierabbit · 12/08/2023 02:30

I love pickled onions, pickled red cabbage, pickled gherkins, Branston pickle but I have to avoid buying these as I eat the whole jar at once then get stomach ache. DH has to hide them.

Yes I did wordle, unremarkable 4.

Dh wants to see Oppenheimer with me this weekend, we will see, quite tired and looks depressing to me but other hand it's famous.

We have quite a lot coming up now in August, preparing DS for new school, holiday in Mauritius, new kitchen and a MN meetup for SN weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/08/2023 04:07

Silkie, Oh, yes! Pickled onions. 😋

Just sitting down to dinner. Made a quick sauce of anchovy, zucchini, grape tomatoes, garlic, asparagus, garlic and strained tomatoes then tossed in left-over tortellini and grated in pecorino. Meanwhile, made arancini with left-over risotto. Have got some Cherry Garcia ice-cream for dessert. 😋😋😋

Silkie sending 💐make sure you take some time for yourself!

I want to see the Barbie movie now with all the hype!!

sueelleker · 12/08/2023 08:17

Mumtobabyhavoc;
Is grape tomatoes another name for cherry tomatoes, or are they something different?

IWanderedLonely · 12/08/2023 11:19

I love pickled onions but these days they give me heartburn. Back in Wales, did 1038 yards in the sea yesterday - most I've ever managed. Off to play the tuppenny shove machines on the pier, simple pleasures. We have £1 each, such big gamblersGrin

HelenaJustina · 12/08/2023 12:19

Havoc and Lemons I can highly recommend it! Fun and feminist, a rare combo in a mainstream film.

Have spent 2hrs picking apples from the garden this morning, we take them to a local farm to be juiced and bottled. We thought it would be fallow this year after last year’s excellent crop, but it’s another bumper harvest.

sproutsandparsnips · 12/08/2023 12:21

Sounds lovely Iwandered where did you swim?
DS was a big fan of deep fried pickles which aren't really a thing here Havoc.
Meeting on a Saturday does not sound like fun Miss.
Sounds like some (slow) progress has been made Silkie.
Todaystheshay sounds frustrating. I too have been on a frustrating call to the bank but mainly down to my own incompetence, although the interminable security codes to remember are very annoying.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/08/2023 17:54

Good morning everyone! ☀️
It's 20c and quite pleasant atm. Forecast is for a hot spell, though. We've had drought for months and are having the worst fire season ever. I'm reeling over the devastating fire in Maui and thinking we're next. We've already lost an entire town here in BC to fire (Lytton, June '21). Seasons are drier here now.

Sue, we have both grape and cherry tomatoes. I don't know why or when, but it seems grape tomatoes are more prevalent. I don't notice any difference.

Sprouts, I'm intrigued by your ds affinity for deep fried pickles. To my Canuck mind they're very American. You can find them on menus here and there in Vancouver now, usually pubs, some diners and US BBQ style restos.

Helena, picking your own apples sounds so lovely! We had a plum tree in our yard when I was little. I loved that.

Iwandered, ocean swimming is so awesome! Good for you on your epic workout. It must've been tiring but very invigorating! I absolutely love ocean swimming.

I have so much to do: continue painting and packing up. Then when I feel it's under control set date for flooring to be done. Will be taking a stay-cation for the four days needed to do the job so need to arrange that once work date is set.

Planning pizza for dinner. Should've picked up all ingredients yesterday when i was out...
just going to make a 2nd latte and have a 2nd slice of banana bread and procrastinate for another hour.

MissConductUS · 12/08/2023 18:00

@DelHenney, thanks for delurking! It drives me a bit batty not knowing if we have a handful of lurkers or a hundred. Lurkers, come in and join us for a cuppa. 😀

Sue, a cherry tomato is spherical and a grape tomato more elongated, like an egg.

I am in my work meeting but goofing off as this part doesn't include me actively.

Sprouts Rhos-on-Sea. They've just spent millions improving the beach. It's gorgeous and I feel really safe in the water.
Helena very envious of your apple crop; my tree has failed utterly this year.

Silkierabbit · 12/08/2023 22:17

Another wonderful meal Havoc you could be a chef.

Swimming in the ocean sounds wonderful Iwandered and well done on swimming that amount.

Thanks Sprouts and Lemons Yes some slow progress is being made for DS which is good. DH and I were both very tired today and both woke at midday but good to have the sleep. DD has been doing her river job today. DS has been gaming. I did some hoovering of upstairs and researching cookers but have had to call the plumber / kitchen fitter as we have an issue with size - our current kitchen was custom built and the worktop is lower than pretty much all cookers at 85cms and the gap is 60cms for width when we will need 90cms height and 61cms with and a gap of 65cms to extractor. I am not sure how we solve this but think best to discuss it now. I hope its not going to be too expensive. We have already given deposit. DH had first discussion with them but DH obviously didn't go into detail about cookers. DH was like just buy one but I don't want to buy one unless they can definitely put it in. Needs to be electric again as we are listed.

Just had a Chinese meal - had the duck pancakes. Drinking tea now. Very sleepy still. Chickens have been cleaned out today. DSs new velvet duvet cover arrived and has been washed and his duvet has been washed, he's quite a messy creature. Floof keeps falling asleep on the stairs but takes a whole stair. He also does this thing of pouncing on things but he waits about 5 to 10 minutes before he pounces and wiggles his bum the whole time. You can see why they say Maine Coons should be indoors.

bizzey · 13/08/2023 16:52

Catching up !
Ohh . Grape tomato = plum tomato possibly ?

bizzey · 13/08/2023 17:00

Havoc...your food always look amazing !

It reminded me of something when the DS's were younger.. ( when I sort of use to cook !!)

Doing a food plan for the week and asked boys what they fancied.

Middle ds about 3/4 ish shouted out he really wanted the pink chicken (!!) that he has last week !!

Flipps sake ...I. know I am not the best cook in the world ...but I really don't think I have ever served them up raw chicken before 🤣.

I probed a bit more ....
He said the pink chicken with the lemon in it !!

Yep !

To this day we still call salmon pink chicken!!
..

bizzey · 13/08/2023 17:12

Browing t'net at the moment instead of doing all the other things I need to do ....looking for a new unit thing for my hallway ...

I did not know I was so fussy till now 🤣.

Just cannot find something with all my requirements!

The unit I have got served well when the boys were at school with different PE, swimming, rugby, trainers, rugby boots etc always in each separate cubby hole ..... prepped and ready to go when they suddenly tell me they need swimming today instead of rugby as they go out the door 🤣🤣...
But it has now turned into a dumping ground !

I need a unit with doors, drawers and deep enough to fit a printer on ...

Ohhh ....and not flat packed !!

Finger is hovering over one that meets nearly all the criteria ....apart from colour ....

And depth ....

bizzey · 13/08/2023 17:14

Silki so happy things are looking a bit better for your DS now .
What an achievement for you .
Fingers crossed it all goes to plan

TeamsInterview · 13/08/2023 17:55

I'm quite chuffed today as I finally got round to digging up 2 dead bushes in my front garden. Now trying to decide what to put in their place- either pots but don't know what to plant in them or a couple of salvias .

Zippedydodah · 13/08/2023 18:00

@bizzey I think grape tomatoes are baby plum ones too?
I’m a regular lurker on here, I love the flow and ebb of everyone’s daily lives.
Mine’s pretty quiet much of the time; it suits me fine though I was a little shocked when I worked out that I hadn’t been into a nearby city since before Covid (I used to go at least 3 or 4 times a month).

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/08/2023 18:04

bizzey · 13/08/2023 16:52

Catching up !
Ohh . Grape tomato = plum tomato possibly ?

Grape tomatoes are cherry tomatoes, but shaped like grapes. ☺️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/08/2023 18:27

Well, not enough sleep last night. In bed at 11 but awake until 12:30. Need to touch up paint in closet 1, but it's done really, so I can put shelves back up with new brackets and get all the boxes in. Closet 2 will he done today and I can put everything back in there, too. Plan is to get hall closet done as well.

Made pancakes for breakfast with coconut and choc chips. Had banana and blueberries with them and maple syrup, of course. 🇨🇦
And a latte, of course.

Bizzey, pink chicken. 🤣 I'm also looking at storage options.
Silkie, if I cooked for a living I fear i'd soon lose pleasure in doing it. I really do it with love. 😛💖

If anyone wants a great pancake recipe I'll post it.

bizzey · 13/08/2023 18:46

Ok...so I have narrowed it down to 2 .
Big decision !!

1 drawer at length of unit ( which I can't remember? 75 cm)

Or 2 drawers of unit length? 93 cm ?

Basicly...which holds more junk ...

2 small drawers ...or 1 long one !!

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 13/08/2023 19:12

It's muggy and grey. Totally uninspiring. I'm sat on my sofa sweating and trying to summon up the motivation to finish cleaning my home. I've been hit with a big dose of I don't wanna.

bizzey · 13/08/2023 19:15

Mallards ....i get that every day !!
Hence searching for a new unit that will hide away every thing I can't be bothered to sort out !!🤣
