...because 3 phones trebles the security risk... i ve worked extensively with the MOD and no one, no one has more security risks than absolutely necessary and anything connected to the 'net is a risk, thats 3 mac addresses... 3 ip addresses... when only one is needed...
He can give out 3 separate numbers and they can all ring to one phone, 3 diff ring tones and priorities.

But IF 3 are required, i would suggest telling the world about this is not wise.

On defence cuts, i believe several posters have commented on the stupidity of the UK doing this, Wallace, if he had principals would have resigned, as the excellent Lord Carrington did.
On Afghanistan, we know how disastrous the UK policy was, albeit driven by the USA but Wallace defended it...

He supported Boris Johnson, that alone says everything about the man.

Anyway, what matters is Ukraine, so i suggest drawing a line under this, we ve both had our say and disagree, pointless continuing with this, scroll on....

Redis: "While I was in captivity, I told myself this war will not end for me until we return our last soldier from internment and restore Ukraine's 1991 borders."

A powerful statement. Listen, Russians.

https://twitter.com/igorsushko/status/1680649292334395393 Dents Prokopenko has resumed command of the Azov regiment after being released by Turkey

I wonder how Russia will spin this ... I suspect they'll bury it, like they did the fact that Türkiye released them at all. Too much to lose if they alienate Türkiye.

Starting to have my doubts about Howpo, who seems more concerned with point scoring than anything else.

I agree, if nothing else their tone could do with some work 🙄

Only now? I am more cynical, I guess.

It’s been niggling for a while, but I am trying to be mindful of the thread rules and guidance.

BezMills · 17/07/2023 05:43

I am watching Konstantin on Inside Russia youtube live. The Crimea bridge has been hit again, multiple spans down. This will be the big news today. Also reporting a big attack on Sevastopol, results unclear.

RedToothBrush · 17/07/2023 08:33

What good news to wake up to about the bridge.

It looks, well, fucked.

well, i did ask twice to agree to disagree on Wallace and was ignored.

why is it all ok for this to be said about me but i have zero right of reply... (which i kept to the issue i was "questioned" on)

it's called security, pet

Do you really think that you know everything that goes on at high level? All the discussions, all the agreements and disagreements? Do you really think you know everything the previous Defense Secretaries did?

If you won a million pounds you'd find a way to turn it into a disaster wouldn't you

...but not point scoring?

How is the above keeping the debate "respectful??? ...and i'm the one with the tone problem jeeez!

For the 3rd time, its whats happening in Ukraine that matters.

RedToothBrush · 17/07/2023 08:41

On the anniversary of MH17...

Greenshake · 17/07/2023 08:47

@Howpo, I don’t want to get into it with you hence why I haven’t said much. Your tone is part of the problem though. The majority of the BW conversation has been about you arguing the toss and chipping away at how many phones he had, for example. This has nothing to do with Ukraine, although you keep saying that’s your interest. I know it’s hard to get nuance on here, but you are pretty brusque.

jgw1 · 17/07/2023 09:03

On many threads it is perfectly fine to be contrary and pick an argument for the fun of having a discussion.
I would suggest this is not one of those threads.

Inject it into my veins!

This is great news. I wonder if all those Russian holidaymakers in Crimea are slightly worried now?

...but you have, for the 4th time, pls drop this.

yes maybe i am brusque, probably because i particularly dislike Wallace and give a different pov on the guy, i really don't see why everyone should be able to say what a fine fellow he is but i'm not allowed to say different?
instead i get call a fucking Pet!!! possibly the most condescending response ever to an argument.... i note zero critic of 'ducks.... i know my place!!!

who shouldn't really be private messaging me either, which hardly helped.

Ukraine matters a great deal to me, as it should everyone.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 17/07/2023 09:26

More grimly, and I hate to write this, but there have been a couple of worrying pieces of information recently.

Zelenskyy said that at the start of the counter offensive that only 15% of promised hardware and mine-clearing vehicles had arrived. Some of those have not survived. So it's possible that they are very, very low on mine clearing stuff and are completely stuck at the Surovikin lines (thank heavens and Putin's idiocy that he seems to be out of circulation atm).

Ukraine is very clearly working wonders on ammo dumps and command centres (noted over the last weeks, and those are only the ones that are reported). So the Russian invading force is being softened up. But getting through the Surovikin lines, it's worrying at the moment.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 17/07/2023 09:28

Having said that there are slow advances. But the Surovikin lines are highly formidable and it is looking (at this moment) doubtful that Ukraine has the equipment to break through them.

Sincerely hope that actually we're still in the softening up phase and they'll break through when they're ready and sweep the Lines clean!

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 17/07/2023 09:29

What a lie.

I have not messaged you. This is an outright lie.

Never.

STFU and fuck off.

TheABC · 17/07/2023 09:40

I admit, when I woke up to the attacks, my first thought was 'is this the start of something bigger?'

Attacks on the Crimean link would nicely distract Russia from the rest of the front.

As it stands, I will just keep my fingers crossed and donate to Ukraine's fund again.
