In the voice of Cpl Jones.

"Don't panic Capt Sunak"

"Hold your nerve"

"They don't like it up em".

We have a choice between extremely bad alternative outcomes

This is also massively going to hit arts and heritage degrees, which will impact the economy in indirect but nevertheless painful ways. It just goes to show the Tories never change: they know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

jgw1 · 14/07/2023 21:31

It is good to see that Sunak is not pretending that the Tories are the party of aspiration for all, but rather are simply interested in using taxpayers to give further advantages to the rich.

It will. Humanities courses are already being cut, there are very few Fine Art courses left now.

Exclusive:

Downing Street is holding talks about scrapping inheritance tax as part of a ‘totemic’ offering to voters before the general election

There is a ‘live’ discussion among senior figures in No 10 about committing to abolishing the levy entirely

Dan Neidle

About 5% of estates pay inheritance tax, and it raises £7bn. If the magic tax fairy forced me to cut £7bn of tax on the wealthiest 5%, I wouldn't pick inheritance tax...

It’s an absolutely bonkers idea and to me shows they’re now fearful that their core support is crumbling. This is designed to appeal to wealthy pensioners and their prospective heirs.

Notonthestairs · 15/07/2023 10:04

They always dangle binning IHT.
They may well stick in the manifesto but even if they are elected it wont happen.

And it looks bloody ridiculous a few days after saying how tight budgets are.

They're lost the bloody plot.

So they've kept their pledge and have delivered 40 new hospitals. Woohoo!

Shame they forgot to mention they were building them in Minecraft.

Hehehe good one

I think he gave up when he didn’t get the NATO gig.

Yes. Shame really, I think he would have done a decent job there.

PerkingFaintly · 15/07/2023 20:18

Was just speculating on the Ukraine thread (and it is only speculation), that Wallace may anticipate the Tories losing the next election, and thus being unable to continue as Defence Secretary anyway.

In that case, rather than become an opposition MP, perhaps he has an eye on some other Ukraine-related appointment he could take up.

The chances of him retaining his seat are not exactly favourable, so I doubt he is worried about one of about 100 Tory MPs left.

I’ve just been home for a week. It’s the first time I remember being depressed just by the idea of being back in the U.K. Where beaches are just for looking at not swimming because they’ve been pumped full of shit.

I loved that line.

But FFS are the Tories trying to commit PR suicide. It’s like an open goal for taking the piss out of them. No publicity is bad publicity but a roadshow to highlight the manifesto promise you’ve broken seems a bit much.

I bet the VR patient pathway looks nothing like current patients experiences of patient pathways. Do you get the authentic experience of waiting hours for an ambulance, lying on a trolley in a corridor for 12hrs etc etc?

IIRC, BW was a Remainer. We left the EU and are no longer seen as a serious international player. That's why he didn't get the NATO job.

That, along with everything else has probably led to him not wanting to be in the Tory party anymore.

itsgettingweird · 16/07/2023 06:08

I imagine he was a remainer.

By family in the military were all remainers and explained why with what they were allowed to tell us.

He has not set foot in parliament since being arrested.

He has been reselected as candidate for next GE.

His constituents do not know.
