In the voice of Cpl Jones.

"Don't panic Capt Sunak"

"Hold your nerve"

"They don't like it up em".

We have a choice between extremely bad alternative outcomes

Why now from the press? They've known for ages.

DuncinToffee · 16/07/2023 11:03

Maybe the legal issues have been resolved?

Yes I wondered why now.

Similar with the Wallace story. According to the Times Wallace told Sunak he was leaving a month ago but wanted to keep it under wraps until the Autumn.

Then somebody briefed it to the newspapers and he had to go public.

Conspiracy or cock up. Cock ups always more likely but with so many different Tory factions who knows.

So it was leaked out of spite. Very professional.

Blossomtoes · 16/07/2023 11:25

With army at its lowest In numbers since the Napoleonic wars how the hell did anyone expect them to cover gaps in other underfunded services?

Cornettoninja · 16/07/2023 12:57

Great, so now we’re measuring his personal contribution to the national deficit in billions and his personal contribution to co2 emissions in tonnes.

Roussette · 16/07/2023 12:47

How unsurprising
Rishi Sunak’s government has blocked the release of information detailing the prime minister’s taxpayer-funded private jet trips around the UK.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rishi-sunak-private-jets-cost-taxpayer-b2370688.html

We can't expect a man of his importance and stature to have to use everday types of transport like scheduled flights or travel by car. It is important that every knows how important he is by him flying on private jets. He needs to show that he is different from the rest of us, which is of course why it was acceptable for him to break the covid laws and support Johnson through his lying about said lawbreaking.

Blossomtoes · 16/07/2023 13:10

How the fuck can they justify hiding how taxpayers’ money is spent? I hope there’s going to be a hell of a big reveal when Rachel Reeves’ team gets its hands on the books.

Which Tory donor is being paid at a grossly inflated price to supply the plane?

Probably a but risky for Rishi to travel by train. Might get lynched by rail workers wondering why there’s no money for a payrise.

Please use his correct title. But Jeremy Corbyn.

LlynTegid · 16/07/2023 19:08

So with Ben Wallace gone, will there be anyone competent to be Defence Secretary?

jgw1 · 16/07/2023 19:13

Given the UK doesn't really have an army any more do we need a Defence Secretary?

I feel Mrs Mercer may have an opinion on this.

Another competent Tory gone in general.

Plenty don't like their policies but they have had some good and decent MPs in the past. It should tell them something when they are all jumping the sinking ship!

tobee · 16/07/2023 21:08

Lol!

Notonthestairs · 17/07/2023 09:06

Mark Thatcher is a bit of a blast from the past!

The National Audit Office report on the '40 new hospitals & upgrading another 70' is interesting - and worrying.
Changing definitions of 'new' hospitals' to include new wing or a new clinical building.
Failed to keep precords explaining how new projects were chosen.
32 hospitals to be built not 40. 18 underway but running late and well over budget.
DHSC asked for £21.3 bn - was given £18.5bn and therefore they had to move to lower specification buildings to save money.
They are using reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete which isnt suitable for buildings after 30 years.
Large parts of the building work pushed back to late 2020's risking escalating costs.
Risk that hospitals too small to serve their communities - using unrealistic data.
Expectation of 95% bed occupancy - NHS England aims for 92% to prevent operations being cancelled. 95% occupancy considered indicative of a crisis.

So delayed, not cost effective and too small.
Pretty damning.
