We have a choice between extremely bad alternative outcomes

Lee Anderson skipped the New Con launch becuase of a 'terrible sick bug'

All that cheap food he's eating, he really ought to spend more on nutritional food

This tweet from Claudi Webbe Labour MP for Leicester 😮😮😮😮😮

"The UK’s richest 50 families have more wealth than UK’s poorest 33.5 million people

In 1989 a rich person in the UK had 6000 times the average person. Today it is 18,000 times

The wealth of the richest 200 families will be greater than whole UK economy (GDP) by 2035

Tax wealth"

Relying on lies.
Who does that remind me of.

EXCL: Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden accused of misleading Parliament after government is forced to admit that figure he used while covering for Rishi Sunak at PMQs is not based on any official analysis.

Dowden used a figure that had reportedy come from "Treasury analysis". But when the UK's statistics watchdog demanded answers, the Treasury admitted that "the figure quoted is not based on any analysis produced by Treasury officials".

In fact, the Statistics Authority has "so far been unable to establish any official source" for the figure Dowden stated as fact. The Deputy PM seems to have made a baseless claim in the Commons, prompting allegations that he has misled Parliament and should correct the record.

I am beginning to think at any given time half the Tory Party is at war with the other half.

All any leader of the Conservatives can do is cling on for dear life and hope they can survive. It's why they constantly have to pivot to whichever group gains temporary traction.

Sunak is only still in place because they are too embarrassed to hold another leadership election.

I can’t remember which comedian I’m ripping off but I agree with the idea there should be an imposed limit on wealth. Something like, once you hit a billion you get a medal saying ‘I won capitalism’ and then you can’t hoard anymore.

There’s too many people who subscribe to the infinite growth model.

Blossomtoes · 03/07/2023 16:05

Sunak is only still in place because they are too embarrassed to hold another leadership election.

They’ve also run out of candidates.

That in itself is pretty hilarious until you remember the splinter groups who would likely be pushing themselves to the forefront.

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2023 16:12

That will certainly be the question for 2025. Which I why I suppose a few of them are on the hunt for attention and donors now. It's all positioning.

Even if Sunak scraped a small majority he'd still be caught between deeply unhappy factions, a large proportion of which didn't want him in the first place let alone with a much reduced potentially unworkable majority.

Suella Braverman's desperate nonsense falls flat. 🤦

"We can't actually rule Keir Starmer out from running to be Labour's first female Prime Minister"

I think that was evident several leaders ago.

Govt defeated in the Lords over the Illegal Migration Bill

216 to 147 votes.

Peers reject Govt plan to traffic LGBT asylum seekers to Rwanda and a number of other countries, as that would lead to persecution and/or death.

Why does the govt want to do that?

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2023 16:42

House of Lords doing the job of the Commons again.

DuncinToffee · 03/07/2023 16:51

More defeats (from the Guardian live blog)

Government defeated by 78 votes as peers amend illegal migration bill to limit detention of unaccompanied children

Ministers suffer further defeat as peers vote by majority of 79 for amendment to protect rights of children facing detention

Obviously this begs for cat food jokes.
But he's not unwell.
I'd put good money on Dowden telling him that he was launching a manifesto that directly contradicts his own party's manifesto and Anderson decided he wanted to hang on to the Deputy Chair job.

So HoL votes to insert protections for children, LGBT people and pregnant women.

Not a good look for Government or anyone who defends this horrible bill.

So large parts of the Illegal Migration Bill will go back to the House of Commons - presumably the Government will reject the amendments.
I appreciate this is a daft question but what happens next?

Since it wasn't in the government's manifesto I don't think the parliament act applies so the bill will not get past.

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2023 17:04

With a bit of luck it keeps getting sent backwards and forwards between the two until we finally get a GE.

Are the Tories going to campaign on the horrible HoLs thwarting the will of the people against a Labour party who have said they will abolish the HoLs?

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2023 18:15

Sunak just needs to top his peers allowance. Maybe Truss will oblige.
