Coke is pointless

Whatajokr · 12/06/2023 14:06

I'm late 40s. On Saturday I had 3 lines of coke over the space of 2 hours. First time in my life I've ever had drugs.

It did absolutely nothing for me. Pointless waste of time and money.

My friend, who takes it recreationally every few months, asked if I could feel the buzz, or the energy it gave me. Nope.

Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

I'll be sticking to alcohol as my drug of choice. Why people waste their money on that stuff I'll never know.

Says the person no doubt writing this on a phone with a lithium battery mined by a child.

Yup yup. And the nestle coffee and chocolate you eat and drink…. And the flights to take to counties that flog their staff for pittance so you can have a holiday.

im anti drugs but you’ve got the wrong argument going if you think that’s the worse of it. The fact it’s illegal makes it more problematic.

DH knew someone who was very fond of cocaine, and who died suddenly of a heart attack three weeks after his 60th birthday. Not a scientific sample, I know.

Totally irrelevant. I have friends who have died from sudden unexpected heart attacks at
54

13

None of them did cocaine.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 12/06/2023 17:04

I mean, if you wanted to tell us what a free wheeling open minded spirit you are and you don't care what all us dreary conventional fuddy duddies think, why not say so in the first post?

Some of us work and don't live on Mumsnet judging others

Says the person calling the people who don't agree with her pearl clutchers with judgemental rants.

Incidence of myocardial infarction at that age is fairly high, anyway, and is difficult to attribute to drug use. It's much clearer in younger people (18-45), where 25% of MIs are attributable to cocaine.

Qureshi AI et al. (2001). Cocaine use and the likelihood of nonfatal myocardial infarction and stroke: data from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Circulation 103, 502-506. https://doi.org/10.1161/01.cir.103.4.502

How sad and pathetic are you OP into your 5th decade and you start taking drugs. What a loser

I came here expecting a thread about a refreshing beverage!

When I was about 10yo one of my cousins died “after having a Coke”, my Gran said it was too cold straight out the fridge and gave him a heart attack. I was about 40yo before I realised it was probably cocaine he’d had not Coca Cola! 😄

Yeah, OP seems a bit washed up if even Class As don't work. Must be her free wheeling spirited lover of life (but not those who supply her with talcumn powder) malarky.

BettyUnderswoob · 12/06/2023 17:11

Whatajokr · 12/06/2023 16:43

Exactly that. It didn't.

It was top notch stuff. He wouldn't do anything less than the best.

Nor would he snort something he thought was below par and certainly not talcum powder to try to play a joke on me.

I'd love to stick to sugar highs from cake, however the menopausal tummy needs continual taming.

And Coca Cola can't do the trick, as I haven't had caffeinated drinks for years.

Love the fact this thread quickly turned into the typical Mumsnet Judgemental rant. You can't just muse out loud on here, can you? Always the hoard of voices to come along and pearl clutch and tell you just how wrong you are. I'm glad I've still got an open mind about life.

Thank you to those who posted to say it does nothing for you either - glad to know it's not just me.

It's not the choosing to put whatever you want in your body that people were judging you for, OP, it's the involvement in a horrific industry that kills many people that's a problem.

Not caring about that isn't having "an open mind," it's having no morals.

Luddite26 · 12/06/2023 17:17

Stepson hung himself after a night on the Stella and a couple of bags of coke.
You see OP you never know when it can twist your brain and cause you to do things you wouldn't do without it.
Loads of suicides happen after cocaine use, and, alcohol use, I will add to save anybody saying that's worse

There are far bigger and more important reasons to avoid taking illegal drugs, especially opiates, than “it didn’t do anything for me”.

Presumably, had you felt any “good” effects you’d have been happy to continue to support a murderous, violent and exploitative trade.

Totally agree. Someone who takes a line or two at a party is not doing this ‘alone’, they’re part of a vile chain of vile people and vile activities. The exploitation and violence in getting that line of coke to the snorter is shocking and shameful.

Quite 😂Wearing clothes stitched by children in factories working punishing hours with no health and safety regulations to speak of. Food produced by exploited workers, meat killed by traumatised slaughterhouse workers. Our whole capitalist system is fueled by dirty production methods that value human life precisely zero unless it's producing something to sell. The drugs industry is only different in that it's illegal and capitalists don't overtly profit from it.

The difference is that I 'need' a phone for work and to keep in contact with loved ones. I need clothes because I can't walk around naked. Being aware of the exploitative nature of these industries, I try not to buy clothes too often and keep the same phone until it breaks. I don't need to buy cocaine though.

This is the 'no ethical consumption under capitalism' argument. However, we can try to limit our consumption.

Changeling78 · 12/06/2023 17:25

I love how people are trying to defend the drug trade, behave 😂
I have partaken in it many times in my younger days, I’d never have the barefaced cheek to defend it though. It ruins lives from start to finish, it’s filthy and fuck knows what’s in it or who’s touched it with gross unwashed germy paws. Rubbing arse scratching germs on gums, no thanks. Take it if you like but don’t try and defend it.

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 12/06/2023 17:26

Yeah that want coke they just saw you coming 🤣

JusthereforXmas · 12/06/2023 17:27

I have never done coke... I have tried weed when younger and have been spiked with speed a few time (was common when I was a teen) and possibly spiked with ecstasy once (didn't realise at the time but with hindsight that was NOT normal drunk) + I have had prescribed painkillers in my life.

What I have learned is drugs dont work on me the same as other people... like morphine doesn't work on me (horrible to discover after surgery), the weed did nothing (and I find stoners boring) and speed is actually awful and makes me have a mental breakdown (definitely not an 'upper' for me).

I just don't see the point in drugs unless you need them but I assume other people must be having a jolly old time on them and I'm just 'broken'.

anonymous98 · 12/06/2023 17:29

Probably showing my naivety here - but are there really lots of middle-aged professionals who are hooked on coke?

NooNooHead1981 · 12/06/2023 17:35

A different perspective here... I was born 3 months prematurely and weaned off heroin (I know, not quite the same, but it is fairly similar).

I'm pretty sure that the drugs affected my brain chemistry in terms of how I am. I'm certainly fairly sure that I have undiagnosed ADHD, am possibly on the spectrum, and I'm suffering from a neurological involuntary movement disorder that was caused by some prescribed off label antipsychotic that injured me. Antipsychotic drugs work by blocking dopamine in a similar way to heroin and cocaine do.

I'm guessing that the recreational drugs affected my health in terms of predisposition to being more sensitive to medication and adverse effects.

Obviously I won't know for sure about the long term adverse effects of the cocaine but I'm definitely in the "just say no to drugs" camp.

I also have a high frequency hearing loss too which was probably also caused by the prematurity, and the drugs to as well.😳😥

I can’t be the only person who thinks taking class A drugs in your late 40’s hoping to get a ‘buzz’ is absolutely fucking pathetic? Honestly I usually couldn’t give a shit what people do, but IME coke makes people act like twats so I judge users quite harshly.

IME it isn't the coke users vomiting on the side of pavements every Friday night and being carted off in ambulances. Plenty of inebriated 40 year olds sitting in pubs every weekend. Some might say that's pathetic..

Sheitgeist · 12/06/2023 17:38

Gosh. It's very depressing reading the comments from people basically saying that the world can be a bad place anyway, so they don't care that there are people dying so they can get their jollies. 😞

I hope I don't know any of them.

willWillSmithsmith · 12/06/2023 17:41

People on here defending the drug trade because we might be wearing clothing made in a sweatshop. 🤷‍♀️ Personally I try really hard not to buy clothes where this might happen but unfortunately I can’t always guarantee it as even the more upmarket stores can be using them. I’d never shop at Shein or those types of fast fashion outlets. There’s no ethical cocaine trade.

Yes but is there a chain of appalling violence and exploitation of the poverty stricken just to get that beer on the table?
