Coke is pointless

Whatajokr · 12/06/2023 14:06

I'm late 40s. On Saturday I had 3 lines of coke over the space of 2 hours. First time in my life I've ever had drugs.

It did absolutely nothing for me. Pointless waste of time and money.

My friend, who takes it recreationally every few months, asked if I could feel the buzz, or the energy it gave me. Nope.

Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

I'll be sticking to alcohol as my drug of choice. Why people waste their money on that stuff I'll never know.

Ignorance is bliss i guess. People do not enjoy thinking too much.

OK, so when you’re thinking (because you do a lot of that clearly) that lots of industries are a bit bad and exploitative, you conclude that you may just as well just support any old industry then, even though it’s many times worse?

You don’t have ignorance on your side. You know that cocaine causes countless murders and atrocities every day, it’s easily researched. But you’re OK with that because your neighbour has a diamond ring?

YourApplePie · 12/06/2023 15:52

Maybe it was coke zero?

@Whatajokr I recommend you read American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins, it's a work of fiction but gives great insight into the non-party side of cocaine - people may have died so that you and your friend could indulge yourself on Saturday, it's a filthy trade and you and your friend are part of the problem.

Or watch Border Force on the Dave channel and see the thousands of people asking for asylum in the US because of the violence of the cartels and they are terrified for themselves and their children. The people terrorised into becoming drug mules. The shipments of guns that are intercepted destined for gang war across the border that kills innocent people.

AnAussieMum · 12/06/2023 15:53

I thought I was the only one it does nothing for.
I have tried 4 or 5 times over the last 10 years and never felt anything.
Everyone else does, they recon its great.
I dont feel a single thing.
I just stick to my vodka and pink gin now.
Wish I knew what the hype was about!
I did read someone comment sometimes of you have adhd it doesn't do anything......I've often wondered if I do.

The point is that people only put value on what matters to them.

Every single one of us partakes in an industry that actively harms others.

There are far bigger and more important reasons to avoid taking illegal drugs, especially opiates, than “it didn’t do anything for me”.

Presumably, had you felt any “good” effects you’d have been happy to continue to support a murderous, violent and exploitative trade.

You beat me to it.

PearlClutzsche · 12/06/2023 15:56

Na @MrsDanversGlidesAgain , some people buy fast fashion from Sheit, so that justifies taking cocaine, apparently.

Nope, me neither.

takealettermsjones · 12/06/2023 15:58

I may be missing the point but if you'd never done it before why the bejeezus would you do three lines in two hours??

Quite 😂Wearing clothes stitched by children in factories working punishing hours with no health and safety regulations to speak of. Food produced by exploited workers, meat killed by traumatised slaughterhouse workers. Our whole capitalist system is fueled by dirty production methods that value human life precisely zero unless it's producing something to sell. The drugs industry is only different in that it's illegal and capitalists don't overtly profit from it.

Precisely. The very technology you are typing on and the seat you bum is most likely sitting on to the pants covering that bum. Almost everything we use and consume is built on slave / child labour in extreme poverty so unless you are acutely aware of that it’s a bit hypocritical really.

Nope, the point is that the cocaine industry is a million times worse than the other bad industries mentioned.

The other point is that most of us with a sliver of conscience will avoid industries that we KNOW cause the murders of countless innocent people.

Eckyftang · 12/06/2023 16:03

Ahhh cocaine. The drug that turns nice normal people into aggressive arseholes, sucks all your money out the back and absolutely fucks your heart.

You're bang on with your thread title...

Just be glad your mates dealers are selling them watered down coke and you dodged the bullet of really liking it.

CheshireCat1 · 12/06/2023 16:03

I prefer corporation pop.

PrincessPalatine · 12/06/2023 16:09

I did some drugs in the 1990s as a teenager. Spliffs and Es were nice, and I was offered a line of some 'really good' coke once at a party. It didn't do a thing. The others didn't believe me, and offered me another. Still nothing. I think it doesn't affect everyone the same way. So for me the waste of money would be one reason to avoid it, and the fact that I now know it can cause heart problems even the first time you use it would be a bigger reason, but the biggest is that I don't do drugs. Full stop.

Cocaine is not an opiate. It is a stimulant that works by stopping the re-uptake of dopamine and serotonin, two neurotransmitters associated with pleasure and reward, hence the quick, intense and short-lived high.

PrincessPalatine · 12/06/2023 16:10

The people's lives that are ruined by illegal drugs, and the trade in them, is a very compelling reason to refuse them.

borntobequiet · 12/06/2023 16:12

What a silly thing to do.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 12/06/2023 14:23

God why bother getting to your late 40s and trying that. I’ve never taken it and never will, I’m 50. I find it hugely morally problematic as well as the illegality aspect and god knows what it could do to your health.

There's no better time than middle age, I say. I've always said when I get to a certain age, I'm going to try everything I was too scared to try as a teen.

ASGIRC · 12/06/2023 16:20

I did coke once and felt really weird for about 2h. Never again!!! Ill stick to alcohol as my drug of choice!

Although the delivery of meat to your supermarket and clothes to the shops doesn't rely on county lines, giving young kids weapons and frequent assaults and violence in exploited communities within your own town.
