Coke is pointless

Whatajokr · 12/06/2023 14:06

I'm late 40s. On Saturday I had 3 lines of coke over the space of 2 hours. First time in my life I've ever had drugs.

It did absolutely nothing for me. Pointless waste of time and money.

My friend, who takes it recreationally every few months, asked if I could feel the buzz, or the energy it gave me. Nope.

Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

I'll be sticking to alcohol as my drug of choice. Why people waste their money on that stuff I'll never know.

Yes, and using oil from a tanker that probably crushed a polar bear.
But that’s not really the point though is it? The cocaine industry is built on violence and murder. End of.

Well it sort of is the point. Drugs are an easy target in a society that criminalises them, but why is the violence and murder only worth focusing on when it's a biproduct of drug industries? Our whole way of producing and accessing goods of any kind is fraught with violence and exploitation, it's just some is legal and some isn't, some is in plain sight and some is hidden.

There are far bigger and more important reasons to avoid taking illegal drugs, especially opiates, than “it didn’t do anything for me”.

Presumably, had you felt any “good” effects you’d have been happy to continue to support a murderous, violent and exploitative trade.

This. You have no idea what you've just inhaled into your lungs and all the shitty conditions it's made in, as well as all the issues with county lines and getting kids into dealing. There are so many reasons not to touch drugs!

truthhurts23 · 12/06/2023 14:50

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only sober one walking around , even my doctor said “geez what do you do to unwind” when I told him I don’t smoke or drink or do drugs , basically calling me a square , am I square ? Should I have a go at some coke just to say I tried it ?

everybodytidy · 12/06/2023 14:53

Was probs just a line of mostly benzo 😂

Nah, there are much better drugs than coke for that.

This might be outing but when my friends and I were younger and def not in the business of acquiring drugs, we crushed up a bunch of Proplus and snorted it. Was hilarious until my friend realised she has lost the ability to blink.....

We snorted sherbert a couple of times my dad's idea that's a odd experience.

Cincinnatus · 12/06/2023 14:57

Must have been talcum powder…

PearlClutzsche · 12/06/2023 15:01

Jeez @tattygrl I can’t believe you’re happy to partake in something - something completely unnecessary - that causes the murder of innocent people (including children), civil war and environmental damage just because some other industries are exploitative?

Most of us try our best to make the most ethical choices in our purchases, to be fair trade, try to be environmentally friendly etc. We have to eat. But we don’t have to take illegal drugs (and say “so what?” when it’s pointed out that someone will have died for that pathetic little habit).

I can only assume that those who continue to prop up the cocaine industry know very little about it. Anyone who does and continues to partake must be an utter cunt.

So you waited until your forties to try cocaine?

Assuming this is not trolling I just think you're a massive loser > L

I refuse to be quoted on this but I don't think this is true, a friend has had some good stuff in Scotland. In their experience it's more about the price you pay and if you get off a dealer you know.

My friends have quite the same experience with a very reputable Scottish dealer.

There are countless goods and habits that are unnecessary, and produced by exploitative, unethical means, and yet the majority happily partake in them! I'm not defending the exploitation of the drugs industries, but I do take issue with the vehement expressions of scandal, disgust and horror from people who no doubt eat meat, use smartphones, buy fast fashion, go on holiday to countries with abhorrent ethical concerns, endless examples. It's the shrill hypocrisy I can't stand.

😅. Yes !

There is no comparison btw coke and alcohol. Coke hands down, all day long.

Xiaoxiong · 12/06/2023 15:20

I was the same with weed as a young adult. Nothing happened except me getting more and more annoyed with the idiotic behaviour of the increasingly stoned people around me. Total waste of time and money and I've never been tempted to try any other drugs as a result.

PearlClutzsche · 12/06/2023 15:22

@tattygrl around 25,000 people are murdered every year in Columbia alone as a result of the cocaine industry. 25,000.
Most are not traffickers or smugglers but farmers or peasants caught up in the fighting between Marxist guerrillas, right-wing paramilitaries and the Colombian armed forces. The conflict has seen teachers, trade unionists and human rights activists slaughtered in their hundreds.

25,000 humans murdered per year in just one cocaine producing country

And you’re fine with this?

Which of the other industries that you are alluding to is even remotely comparable?

WarmWinterSun · 12/06/2023 15:24

Some breathtakingly ignorant comments on here trying to justify the drug trade as being no worse than other products that are sold in a capitalist society.

Come back when you've checked where your engagement ring diamond comes from, have stopped driving your car causing misery for killing asthmatics, eating meat from slaughtered animals, or fish from over fished oceans, have stopped flying abroad, drinking alcohol or unhealthy food which causes a huge burden on the NHS in related diseases. Do come back when you're squeaky clean though and we can compare vices.

tt9 · 12/06/2023 15:29

I misread the title as "cake is pointless", became completely enraged and entered the thread to do vicious battle only to realise my mistake. what do I do with all this rage now?

incidentally if you are looking for a high, sugar does it for me every single time.

Me too!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 12/06/2023 15:30

I loved. It in my 20s about 20-25 years ago, but most people I knew did it then.

when I tried it about 10 years ago with a friend in a pub, yes I got a buzz but it seemed a bit sad to rush upstairs and do it in secret - her best male friend whose birthday it was was vehemently against drugs. This friend still does recreational drugs in her 40s now but she’ll bang on to anyone who listens about her anxiety, depression etc so I’ve got a bit tired about that with her. I don’t touch anything now.

Outofthepark · 12/06/2023 15:30

I don't really want to get into a pearl-clutching debate about this. I agree, those facts and statistics are horrible. The facts and statistics about children and impoverished people working in fast-fashion (aka, most clothing retailers) sweatshops and dying on a semi-regular basis from buildings literally collapsing on top of them are horrible too. Honestly, a bit of research into almost any major world industry will furnish you with the horrible, unbelievable facts that do rival those statistics, in my opinion. Worse, almost, because governments of the world condone it.

I'm going to leave this here because I don't think it's going to be productive, and I don't really see the need for us to take up opposing sides, comparing violent industries as if we have to pick the very worst one. Eating meat isn't necessary, using smartphones isn't necessary, buying new clothes regularly from high street retailers isn't necessary, going on holiday to Dubai or Qatar isn't necessary, and yes, drugs aren't necessary. But the only difference is what is government and society sanctioned and what isn't. Arguably the stuff that is government sanctioned takes more lives and causes more suffering, because it is actively promoted and funded by world powers and consumer money. But it feels icky arguing over what's the evilest industry in the world.

That's my opinion, anyway.
