Before counting undecided voters, the baseline results of our major MRP poll published this week show the previously Tory safe seat of Mid-Bedfordshire (recently vacated by Nadine Dorries) is now marginal. Projected CON hold by a mere 2.5%

Oh absolutely not @DuncinToffee

Twitter says, Nadine says, 'something happened' today to make her quit. What's the betting she's sold the reason to a Sunday for an exclusive?

Could be one of those weekends...

I have nothing planned for Sunday morning so I wouldn't mind a bit of Tory infighting (again 😳)

Flumpaphone · 09/06/2023 17:58

Houchen!!!!!!! A peerage for Houchen!!! The man who is busy asset stripping Teeside and handing it to his mates!!! The man who is under investigation for alleged corruption!!!

I have the misfortune of having to deal with him in real life and I have never met a more arrogant, self serving, over promoted shit!!!!

Flumpaphone · 09/06/2023 18:00

I know Teesside has 2 ss's. Auto correct doesnt seem to - which is something else hitch makes me cross!

Yes it is

Formerly loyal Jonson aide:

‘‘It’s an utter disgrace. It’s rewards for failure all round. A list of bullies, sycophants. Boris has slammed the door shut on the prospect of any return to the frontline of British politics and trashed what remained of his legacy”.

I take it the "aide" didn't get their gong? Poor love.

I listened to her on R4 earlier.

What she said was the money isn't there to do it now since Truss and Tory's crashed economy so their plan will be on how to grow economy and then invest.

I actually like their honesty and the fact the won't make pledges they now know are impossible to keep.

The trouble is too many people vote on the basis promises regardless of whether they are achievable or not.

Notonthestairs · 09/06/2023 18:02

Well who'd have thought Johnson would bring the honours list in to disrepute?

That list! There is somebody for everybody to dislike on that list.

No wonder it was published late on a sunny Friday afternoon. And no wonder Sunak is backing away from it.

I have a really horrible neighbour. He had one of those roles that always gets a knighthood in the NY list on retirement. He passed off Gordon Brown and didn't get one, first in the role for over a century. Every New Year we drink a toast to good old Gordon.

The same Houchen who lied about the Dorman Tower.
Nadine Dorries was responsible for this too.

@Roussette re: Johnson has advised her of the Privileges Committee outcome and this is revenge

Dorries will swear blind she's had no contact with Johnson. But Cruddas or whoever will definitely be running a BBB WA group in collaboration with Johnson and they will know how much trouble he is in regarding the report. So I'd agree with that.

What's the time frame for my by election?

Flumpaphone · 09/06/2023 18:11

Yes that's the one, the one who's handed massive public assets to 2 property developers for £100 - allegedly!

Oh and a knighthood for Simon Clarke who was in the Treasury and chief cheerleader when Truss crashed the economy and put all our mortgages up and endangered our pensions

I also deal with him in real life as well and he's a close second to Houchen in the utter shit stakes

What's the time frame for my by election?

Lewis Goodall said on a twitter around 2 months

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2023 18:17

Surely not during summer hols?

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 09/06/2023 18:21

Just having a horror that all the Conservative MPs standing down might start a new party. Dominic Raab, George Eustace, Sajid Javid, Matt Hancock anyone?

Efacsen · 09/06/2023 18:21

I thought the same

"Looks like Nadine Dorries and Alok Sharma will not be getting peerages in future

Source close to Sunak says that the list is final - there will be no additions - and that he has not given any assurances or made any promises to Boris Johnson

The list, they say, is closed"

Ah! So Dorries gets lost in the long grass.

But Sunak was elected on a manifesto that said many things, and now doesnt seem to believe in most of them. US trade deal by 2022 anyone?

DuncinToffee · 09/06/2023 17:11

Boris Johnson's resignation honours:

  • Jacob Rees-Mogg and Michael Fabricant given knighthoods
  • Damehoods for Priti Patel and Andrea Jenkyns
  • Lots of other honours for aides caught up in Partygate

Wtaf? Clearly knighthoods and damehoods now mean she entirely different. I wonder if anyone will be sending theirs back now?

World beating representation.

I live in Mid Beds. She did sweet FA for us when she was our MP, so we're hardly going to miss her now she's gone.

Bunting is up. Local FB page is a treat.

Blossomtoes · 09/06/2023 18:35

Something different, damn it.

EyelessArseFace · 09/06/2023 18:47

From FB: 'BREAKING NEWS: Cucumber sandwich with blue rosette attached is set to replace her.'

The twats round here would vote for a turd if it had a blue rosette pinned to it.

She can't just quit...UK parliamentary by-elections - Wikipedia
Not sure how long it will take for the writ, but they generally don't do anything in July or August and most of Sept which is conference season.
I'd say min 6wks to organise, so you might be waiting now until Sept/Oct.
