We are going to have weeks of this, aren't we Angry

Open warfare now between Sunak and Johnson.

Johnson responds to Sunak’s comments this morning

“Rishi Sunak is talking rubbish. To honour these peerages it was not necessary to overrule Holac - but simply to ask them to renew their vetting, which was a mere formality.”

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/06/2023 15:16

The death of the story party would be much funnier if they weren’t in power and responsible for other people’s lives.

which resignation do you refuse to accept though? Has to be either Boris or nads to be funniest.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/06/2023 15:33

Think politics U.K. have missed out a PM here.

I know it’s a time we don’t like to think about.

There's a thread on this - the few posters who are pointing out that this case is a powerful argument for taking abortion out of the criminal justice system aren't getting any traction.

DuncinToffee · 12/06/2023 16:17

I found that thread just after I posted on here and I noticed that too

Piggywaspushed · 12/06/2023 16:27

Can someone link please? I can't find it and am interested.

Notonthestairs · 12/06/2023 16:31

AIBU to think throwing a mum-of-four in prison for having an abortion is never the answer? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4825963-aibu-to-think-throwing-a-mum-of-four-in-prison-for-having-an-abortion-is-never-the-answer

It's a terrible case. I hope they appeal.

Breaking:

Boris Johnson has now written to the Treasury making clear that he is standing down as an MP

Under Parliament’s archaic processes it means a writ can now be moved for a by-election in Uxbridge & South Ruislip

So he did definetely lie on Friday when he said he was stepping down with immediate effect.

I am most surprised by this turn of events.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/06/2023 17:16

Yes. And I am also shocked that MPs are announcing things in the press before following parliamentary procedure.

They only do further damage to themselves and to their party. Washing your dirty laundry etc.

Laurence Fox is going to stand in Uxbridge 🤣

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/06/2023 17:38

So there’s one spot left and two potential resignees, right?

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/06/2023 17:41

Hang on. Nigel Adams has got his in and been appointed Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead.

So that leaves mad Nads. What happens now?

They don't hold the role long and then will be discharged. So she'll just have to be Paris's the paperwork is dealt with!

She probably hasn’t realised she needs to actually resign officially yet.

ginandbearit · 12/06/2023 18:12

To add to the mix it looks like Boris has put forward his daughter Charlotte Owen to be a life peer at the age of 29 after 18 months of experience in his office..

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/06/2023 18:14

Hadn’t realised she was his daughter. FFS.

Has it been confirned that she is his daughter? I thought that was hearsay at the moment.

Former Tory leader Michael Howard tells @AndrewMarr9: “What Boris Johnson said this afternoon is simply not true.”

Says Sunak couldn’t have asked Holac to re-vet the 3 MPs.

He adds: “Not only was he not telling the truth, he must have known he wasn’t telling the truth.”

All this pussyfooting about. He lied.
