I think the whatsapp messages are probably absolutely catastrophic

I'm actually quite excited by the WhatsApp messages, they're going to be terrible and another huge nail in the Tory coffin.

As an aside, why the fck does Johnson insist on running in a shirt?! All part of his 'funny Boris' image probably 🙄

Yes. I doubt many in the Cabinet would survive the scrutiny.

Where's that extract from?

Notonthestairs · 30/05/2023 13:15

We will only see those messages relevant to the Inquiry. That said I'm sure that will be more than enough.

Roussette · 30/05/2023 13:19

Anthony Seldon again. Interviewed on Sky

Anthony Seldon - "Boris Johnson was the worst PM in 100 years & he was in charge during the worst epidemic in 100 years.. the public have the absolute right to know what happened... so the covid enquiry needs to be given what they want.. it's not going to be pretty"

The Times article from yesterday. Here it is. Ignore funny link, it's quite safe, I have archived it for you as it is behind a paywall

Thank you!

Roussette · 30/05/2023 13:26

From the article, in case not everyone sees it...
From Lady Hallett
In a letter to the Cabinet Office, she remarked: “It may be necessary for reasons of context for me to understand the other (superficially unrelated) political matters with which they were concerned at the time. Such matters may acquire greater significance where it appears to me . . . that a minister dealt with Covid-related issues inadequately because he or she was focusing (perhaps inappropriately) on other issues.”

Yeah... parties at Chequers and No. 10 could be 'other issues'!

TokyoSushi · 30/05/2023 13:28

Thanks @Roussette !

Surely the Health Secretary wouldn't have been spending his time on his affair instead of work?

jgw1 · 30/05/2023 13:37

I am starting to wonder what the whatsapp messages say about Cummings trip to Barnard Castle and the subsequent cover up. Was it Rishi who suggest the eye test excuse?

Was the affair discussed on whatsapp before it was made public?
I imagine Boris thought it all a bit of a school boy japes.

It could well have been couldn't it.
He speaks to us as if we are wide-eyed five-year-olds sat cross-legged on the floor and hanging on his every word so he would expect us to readily swallow that excuse.

I wonder if that's what is referred to in this article....

This will send a chill through anyone in power at the beginning of the pandemic who was otherwise engaged as the country slid into the most serious public emergency since the war.

Oh, yes, what was Boris too busy doing to attend meetings about the pandemic in feb 2020?

DuncinToffee · 30/05/2023 13:46

Clip of Sunak this morning not answering questions. Is he looking angry or scared?

All together now.... SORTING OUT HIS DIVORCE!!

TokyoSushi · 30/05/2023 13:51

And writing a book wasn't he?

TokyoSushi · 30/05/2023 13:52

Sunak was doing a classic Braverman repeat the same line no matter the question 🙄

Does he not realise that he looks utterly insane with his fixed inane grin and parroted, pre recorded soundbite?

DuncinToffee · 30/05/2023 14:00

All is well

NEW: An ally of Boris Johnson says plans for call with Rishi Sunak this week broke down because of Oliver Dowden, who was going to be on it.

"Dowden cancelled call because he was upset at being fingered as source of the ratty rat leak re Boris referral to cops"

That's how all sensible governments function isn't it? I'm not coming to X because you told on me.

Efacsen · 30/05/2023 14:39

Ah So, Johnson's phone is missing

Charlie Falconer@LordCFalconerCabinet Office says doesn’t have Johnson’s phone with messages on it about Covid and other govt policy. Can a PM really conduct government business on his phone and with no record in hands of government? Govt not private affair between Johnson and pals.
