@DuncinToffee ain't no bucket in this world big enough for that thread. Tory fan squad being given a tough time. They've brought clav out to play.

DuncinToffee · 23/05/2023 13:26

Thread by Lizzie Dreaden on why she started the investigation

https://twitter.com/lizziedearden/status/1660970624058023937?s=20

A significant amount of responses to this story are suggesting that I have been "briefed" by civil servants/political opponents, or that it's part of a "witch-hunt"

It's not - it is the result of a six-month investigation by me, and only me

It is being published this week in part because of the speeding story, which is unrelated but obviously drives interest in other potential breaches of the ministerial code

I started the investigation in November because of this passing comment to the Home Affairs Committee

I am just waiting for Leigh to make an appearance with his

'What's wrong with this country? We used to have proper scandals about sex or money or PMs invading Iraq on dodgy evidence

'This moral outrage is ludicrous'

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/05/2023 13:47

There are plenty of sex and money scandals in the Tory party. Not sure that’s a road you’d want to go down.

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2023 13:58

"Used to" ? Yes we've really lacked sex and money scandals of late - apart from Hancock's gropey half hour, Parish's tractor porn, Pincher doing as his name suggests, MPs being banned from tne Criwn Estate after rape allegations, Johnson & Johnson being interrupted by Williamson in the office, Zahawi's tax affairs, Johnson trying to wangle the other Johnson a job, Paterson & Randox, Hancock and his landlord, Michelle Mone and on and on.

tobee · 23/05/2023 14:12

Wincing to think of the type of Conservative candidates who will be standing in these newly vacated constituencies.

Roussette · 23/05/2023 06:41

That thread is amusing in that it is 95% the same as we think.
I couldn't resist......

Raab standing down, poor chap 😂🤣😅👍

It is. And a response (I ignored and don't bite) to me saying they could argue with facts rather than pick fault in semantics was responded to by picking up a typo.

It's just a stupid game to them. Perhaps it shows the general thought ability (or lack of) of Tory voters in general?

Sunak government go further on voter ID for elections

Written statement just published unveiling plans to mandate ID for postal and proxy votes, and to make people apply for postal votes every three years.

That looks like they are doing it under a statutory instrument. Wouldn’t want any annoying accountability to get in the way.

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2023 17:51

£5 million donated to Tory coffers by ex-Egyptian cabinet minister now Tory party treasurer Mansour.
Wonder what he wants in exchange.

Good sum up.

The one that gets to me is Mone
What's happening there? Why hasn't she been stripped of her seat in HoL? What about paying the money back? Why is she excused from attending for months on end?

Her husband is part of a massive fraud case in Espana. 5 charges including corporate tax evasion, causing collapse of a business creating ,200 job losses and more
He faces jail if found guilty.
They are the worst of the worst

I agree @Roussette her name is frequently mentioned, she seems to have become the symbol (poster girl?) for pandemic corruption, there is a general baying for her blood from us the people, and yet she's luxuriating on her gigantic boat without a care.
She must have some serious dirt on someone important?

Roussette · 23/05/2023 18:07

Oh yes.

If Spain are pursuing this, it must be bad, their legal system is , to not put a finer point on it.. very slow. I know this. Here is Spanish press about it. They are probably on the yacht somewhere in Spain fighting it

EXCLUSIVE

Boris Johnson has been referred to the police by the Cabinet Office over new claims he broke lockdown rules at Downing Street and Chequers during the coronavirus pandemic

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 23/05/2023 18:20

Oooh tobee beat me to it Grin

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 23/05/2023 18:22

Well, who would ever have thought he'd would have had a few parties at Chequers during lockdown?
It's not like he had dinner there with Sharp & Blyth during lockdown was it.

I feel for the staff. I bet they had to follow restrictions.

DuncinToffee · 23/05/2023 18:28

It gets better

Incredible story:

I'm told this came about because the government pays Johnson's legal fees for the Covid inquiry.

He handed over diaries to lawyers, and as the client the Cabinet Office got to see them - leading them to refer the issue to the police.

I'm told the scale of these events is quite large - revealed in the details of family and friends invited to Chequers when Covid restrictions were in force.

In No 10, it was argued those people were government employees. At the PM's countryside retreat, that may be harder.

Fuck me that's hilarious

newnamethanks · 23/05/2023 19:00

We're paying his legal fees, do we get the privilege of paying any fines he incurs as well? As for Sue Ellen, clearly she was just having a quick eye test, in the approved Tory fashion, whilst driving and is possibly puzzled that she should have been fined at all.

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/05/2023 19:14

That story is worth every penny of those legal fees.

newnamethanks · 23/05/2023 19:19

If it has the ending I'm wishing for@RafaistheKingofClay I'll happily fork out double to never see or hear of Bloody Stupid (sorry, Sir TP) Johnson and his slavering minions again. Well worth it.
