"If a probe is to be launched into Braverman, I'd like the orifice and speed to be made public.

Did you mean to make a post about launching a probe into Braverman's orifice 😳"

Yes, but I didn't specify which one 🤣

mibbelucieachwell · 22/05/2023 13:08

I've just done a YouGov survey which included a Q about whether SB should resign.

Obviously I said I didn't know until an investigation has been carried out.

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2023 13:57

Suella Braverman breaks her silence:

"Last summer, I was speeding, I regret that, I paid the fine and I took the points.

"But we’re focused now on delivering for the British people and working for them."

However, home secretary refuses to deny asking civil servants to arrange private speed awareness course for her.

"What I will say is that, in my view, I’m confident that nothing untoward has happened."

Same old, same old

Exclusive:

CCHQ is drawing up plans for a succession of by-elections in event Boris Johnson is forced to resign & prominent supporters stand down to accept peerages

It will hold a series of by-election drills this week to prepare for sudden departures

Senior Tories are increasingly concerned that Boris Johnson will just quit if Privileges Committee finds against him and he's sanctioned to more than 10 days

They think he'd castigate it as a stitch-up and stand down

A spox for Johnson said he is standing in Uxbridge & Ruislip

Have the Tories considered how much people might pay for such a spectacle?

I might have 1 or 2 questions…

itsgettingweird · 22/05/2023 15:51

but the Archbishop of Canterbury also got caught speeding some time last year, and Keir's beer

Not acceptable but there's no "thou shan't not speed!" And Keir did know the law and don't break it!!!

itsgettingweird · 22/05/2023 15:55

Oh a million things.

Main one being what they are doing to address the ever increasing lack of support for pupils with SEND. How they will increase suitable provision, make teaching and support an attractive career again so they can get the staff, how they plan to retain staff and when they are going to stop seeing teachers as the enemy and start to promote the excellent work they do with ever decreasing budgets so they also get respect from pupils and parents.

Starmer didn't break the law. And the Archbishop didn't try to get out of the legal consequences of speeding.

What a convenient way to get out of it. Just imagine that in other contexts (and Braverman probably is): "I refuse to deny that I funnelled government contracts to my relatives/broke lockdown laws/took bribes/touched up my staff/stole/killed my spouse, but what I will say is that, in my view, I'm confident that nothing untoward happened and we're focussed on delivering for the British people."

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/05/2023 16:13

The I took the points and paid the fine thing…

They’re expecting us all to have forgotten she tried not to pay the fine and tried to get the taxpayer to pay it, aren’t they.

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2023 16:22

The I took the points and paid the fine thing…

How many times has she repeated that now?

Oh and it's all Labour's fault

Yvette Cooper struck quite the nerve with Suella Braverman

She’s definitely guilty of doing something she shouldn’t have. Unless she actually is a complete idiot and has decided this is the best way to handle it if she didn’t ask the civil servants anything.

Matt Green being painfully accurate about government scandals.

Did Braverman just lie on record? "At no time did I seek to avoid the sanction".

I thought I had already one with the appearance of cutnpastova?

pointythings · 22/05/2023 19:37

Claxon definitely gone out to Tory HQ on that thread. They've also wheeled out Janiie and a new one too.

I thought the thread was really complete when the cake made an appearance.

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2023 20:08

They are really running out of excuses.

Yeah it's like

"I know I lied. I know I tried to cover it up. I know I tried to act in a way that wasn't ethical. But look - I was caught. So I paid up and took the points. So none of the deceit actually matters"

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/05/2023 21:20

Urgh that thread. The more I think about it the more ‘she asked the civil servants to look into /arrange a course’ doesn’t make sense.
This was leaked by ‘people close to the HS’ but she hasn’t said that at all. In fact Yvette Cooper asked her what she told the civil servants to do at the dispatch box and she completely dodged the question. Given the excuse was all over the papers why would you not answer unless that wasn’t what you’d asked and you want to avoid adding being in contempt of parliament to your transgressions.

It makes no sense for Braverman to be avoiding giving that excuse at this point.

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2023 21:38

It's beside the point really. She could've just paid the fine and taken the points. Bleating about her insurance premium isn't very good optics. Try not speeding instead.

Clearly Braverman takes the servant bit of the job title very literally.
