The lovely bit of your house

So, in my head I have a house straight out of a swanky interiors magazine, but in reality with 2 teenage boys, a full time job and a life, it's a very long way from that.
However, one little corner of the bathroom always gives me joy.
I thought it would be nice to post a picture of the tiny little bit of your house that gives you hope, even if like mine the rest of it is full of discarded trainers, laundry waiting to be put away and last night's left over pizza.

@Yogibearspicnic if you recognise an area, for god's sake don't blab about it. It's really inappropriate.

Going by the outside pic I'd say that's Bridgnorth!

Not inappropriate at all. It's a wonderful town ❤️

@thenewaveragebear1983 would you mind linking to the thread you had about how you painted your chair? It looks fabulous. I did try to search but no success.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/05/2023 06:04

@Iwantniceclothes I also didn’t use any fancy paint or fabric dye. I took the swatch of my new sofa to Valspar and had it colour matched as a tester pot x 2! I bought wax for wax jackets on Amazon and put that over the top and brushed it in with a hairdryer on low. It is definitely a lot of labour, the paint needs to be whirled in and go deep into the fabric, but it’s not especially skilful.
and so as not to derail the thread, it genuinely is my favourite place in my home. I am sat here now, under the skylight, bathed in morning sunshine, in my beautiful chair 😻

This is mine, it’s in my sitting room and when I look at it it makes me happy. We’ve lived here happily for 28 years and have brought our family up but never really had that much money or nice things like original artwork, it’s all been ikea etc which I’ve been more than happy with. But I was walking to work and I saw this in one of the charity shops - it stopped me in my tracks. So I went back at lunchtime and it was still there. The shop assistant told me the story and the name of the painting which was “summer and all she promises”. So I bought it, it was not cheap for me, but cheap for the artists work. But priceless now for the pleasure it’s brought me

I’ve no idea why the drinks price list ended up here either lol

Kucinghitam · 27/05/2023 07:18

This is such a happy thread! Everybody's photos make me smile, you all have lovely homes.

I've never liked my house, but we have gradually made a few changes and improvements over the years and now there are some bits of it which please me, so I try to look only at those bits Grin

This view of my front room in particular. The way the walls change colour in different lights. I'm always "zhushing" the mantelpiece with seasonal themes. This week, the intensely crimson peonies from our garden.

What a great thread with so many beautiful photographs.

I’m still struggling to get used to my new home, but look what we put up this morning, it is now in my bedroom, since there’s no covering on the balcony and then it’s going to rain. I love swings in general and one thing I knew I wanted with this home was to have a swing, so I now have a swing right next to my bed.

by the way, would anyone know if we do put a covering on my balcony, would this blow away easily like a trampoline or would it be better off in the bedroom? It’s not some thing I can move easily on my own.

I am going to focus on creating a sensory room in one of the bedrooms and I’m looking into a small, springless trampoline and one of those yoga trapeze is that someone on here had suggested a few months ago.

@thenewaveragebear1983 Thanks for the link! I think I’m going to try it!

Silkierabbit · 27/05/2023 14:35

That looks lovely HelloKitty I hope you are OK. I used to talk to you on the SN threads and wondered how you were.

@Anapana I recognise that style. Who is the artist if you don't mind me asking please? I have seen similar with ochres and browns in a gallery in Cornwall.

Chatillon · 27/05/2023 16:50

A different style, just the subject matter is the same. That reminded me of yours I think.

Notonthestairs · 27/05/2023 16:59

@Kucinghitam beautiful room. Don't suppose you remember what colour you painted your walls?

Mollyplop999 · 27/05/2023 19:44

My garden, finally in flower .

Ah yes! It's Dulux Mysterious Teal. It is one of those that you have to request at the magic mixing kiosk in a DIY store. The colour keeps changing depending on the light - in bright midday sun it looks dark teal, in bright morning light it looks a bit lighter (like in the photo), on a cloudy day it looks more like a true navy.

They are similar! Mines by a Hebridean based artist called Jennie Wilson - here’s some of her work in a gallery in the UK https://www.marinehouseatbeer.co.uk/artist-gallery/jenny-wilson-marine-house/ love them
