The lovely bit of your house

So, in my head I have a house straight out of a swanky interiors magazine, but in reality with 2 teenage boys, a full time job and a life, it's a very long way from that.
However, one little corner of the bathroom always gives me joy.
I thought it would be nice to post a picture of the tiny little bit of your house that gives you hope, even if like mine the rest of it is full of discarded trainers, laundry waiting to be put away and last night's left over pizza.

I am a giant weirdo who mostly keeps the weirdness under control, but I figured our downstairs toilet was the place to give it free rein.

@AnotherElaine love it! V. Similar to my downstairs loo!

@Chatillon what beautiful writing and it conjures up a stunning picture.

We extended our house and put in this shower room. I love it so much that I traipse downstairs to use it every day and often light a candle and have “spa” type music playing. I particularly like the patterns on the door and it’s my little sanctuary.

DP thinks it’s a concrete cell 😂

Struggling to get used to my new home, but I do like this room for how bright it is. This will probably end up being my sensory room. I am visually impaired, and struggle with chains on a good day, I’ve only owned this place for two months and it hasn’t “grown on me“ just yet

@LibertyLily Home is where your heart is. You and your DH seem amazing people.

I escaped an abusive relationship last year and when I moved into my rented house I had nothing, now I've got a few bits and pieces from IKEA, including this bed, but everything else I have including this bedding, the table lamps, side tables and cushions were second hand and donated by my lovely sister and niece, this might just look like an ordinary bed to you but I love the colours and the look and it's become my special 'haven' safe from the anguish I felt for so long.

It means so much to have that safe space Flowers

Allthenaughtydogs · 13/05/2023 14:01

My lovely, light, everyday living space.

I lived in a flat for a couple of years which was so dark.
Even on a grey day there’s so much light in this room.

I love the whole house but my garden makes me particularly happy as it took my perfectionist DIY a husband quite a while to get it done . This is a small snippet of his block paving and last years planting .

I’d struggle to know which bit to pick.

Like @Optimalise mine is a post abusive relationship home so that fact it is a completely safe space and decorated and furnished entirely to my taste after years of not being allowed to choose my own decor means I love all of it really.

My ex’s style was pretty much non existent but he certainly didn’t love mine (which is quirky tbf!) and the house was magnolia from top to bottom when I bought it as it had been a rental property.

The Wall of Warhol in my dining area is something I planned while I was still living with my parents going through the divorce. I also love it because everyone I know was horrified when I told them I was painting the wall black, but they all loved it when it was done.

My bar was also a mid divorce limbo purchase from a junk shop that I’ve upcycled and banana light a gift from a friend.

So both reminders of where I was and how far I’ve come 😊

This is a boast because I cross stitched these two and they’re in the hall.

The house we moved into a year ago feels properly grown up and not a work in progress like pretty much every other house we've ever had.

The living room is calm and a lovely place to sit and read.

And I love my kitchen dresser.

My orchids in the conservatory. They flower every year and I've never killed one yet! Also the cats leave them alone. They make me feel sophisticated, like someone from an Agatha Christie novel, elegantly tending to my exotic blooms in the hot house.

Wow! Went out for a few hours and look at all of these beautiful bits of houses! I love how everyone has such different taste and ideas.

I love my garden and my bedroom.., also have 2 teen boys and they just haphazardly break or ruin everything 🤣

The dog doesn't help but she understands my need for a clean quiet space we can call our own. She's currently sat in the garden waiting for the kitchen floor to dry!

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 13/05/2023 15:05

Knew this would be a beautiful uplifting thread.
My front patio and associated view. I often sit on my front doorstep with my youngest son (house is set back) and just enjoy the view, the peace and feel grateful for a myriad of things.
Second is my bedroom where my eldest can set up a camp bed when he feels scared and doesn't want to sleep alone. He has decided sleeping on the floor next to me allows me to not be disturbed so win-win!

Still so so much to do in our house, but this vignette makes me very happy.
