The lovely bit of your house

So, in my head I have a house straight out of a swanky interiors magazine, but in reality with 2 teenage boys, a full time job and a life, it's a very long way from that.
However, one little corner of the bathroom always gives me joy.
I thought it would be nice to post a picture of the tiny little bit of your house that gives you hope, even if like mine the rest of it is full of discarded trainers, laundry waiting to be put away and last night's left over pizza.

I’ve name changed. If anyone recognises my house, they already know me. They won’t see my other posts etc. It’s not giving away any secrets.

Sorry, was that meant to be to me? I haven't talked about recognising your house!

Sandybabey · 14/05/2023 16:16

I would love to see of some of these lovely rooms at night with the lamps on and looking cosy

No I’m sorry! I meant to quote @Chatillon

Roussette · 14/05/2023 16:17

No problem! Not worried about anyone recognising me, I only posted a little bit of a wall !

This is a boast because I cross stitched these two and they’re in the hall.

That's so talented! They're beautiful.

We moved to this house nearly 2 years ago. I knew that the garden was overgrown but when we moved in I realized it was FULL of poison ivy and other weed and invasive plants. It was actually difficult to walk around it without getting stung or scratched. They were entire walls and fences that we didn't even know existed because they were completely covered.

We've spent a fortune and I've invested many, many hours, and finally the garden is re emerging. Decades ago it was carefully planned and it is starting to look amazing. The house was also built so that anywhere you sit, there are views across the trees and flowers. It's kind of half woodland with oak trees and native plants. We even have a resident hawk. Every time I look at my garden I feel happy.

Here's one of my favorite trees.

flowergrain · 14/05/2023 16:33

The Persian rug is beautiful colour @LibertyLily

KickAssAngel · 14/05/2023 16:35

My maple/acer tree and one of our oak trees. The hawk likes to sit in the oak each morning and watch the deer eating my flowers.

My garden is also a favourite spot as well. It's not at its best this spring as we've been very busy and neglected it over the winter, but I still feel very lucky to have it.

People should really be more careful posting such outing details of where they live on the internet 😳

^ It was @kokeshidolls who had issues with adults posting pictures of their homes. Not sure why.

@Peverellshire - thank you! My step mother Is a potter and her parents were artists so most of my original art comes from family friends and colleagues of hers. This particular painting was an old family friend - it was a bargainous £60 although did need reframing.

LibertyLily · 14/05/2023 17:49

@KickAssAngel Your trees are absolutely beautiful!

@Peverellshire Thank you! The copper pans we use (a mix of cheap ones from Sainsbury's, vintage American - I'm afraid I can't recall the brand - and French ones courtesy of TKMaxx/Homesense) are fine on our LPG hob but they never look highly polished as I'd like them to and the flames do contribute to that aged look! We have a few really old French ones too but don't use these as I worry about the fact that the linings have been worn off.

The Art Nouveau bed is part of a suite (with wardrobe, dressing table and bedside table) that we bought on ebay about fifteen years ago. The other pieces are in a different bedroom (that's currently a work in progress 🙄). The Victorian chest of drawers was a more recent ebay find.

@Yellowdays, @Silkierabbit and @flowergrain Thank you!

@Chatillon Ha! Actually I think it was the moment I told DH I definitely didn't want to take on another project!

LibertyLily · 14/05/2023 17:51

Thank you @mamaduckbone!

Imnoonesfool · 14/05/2023 17:56

Mines our garden, it’s not Particularly small but it was very overgrown when we moved in and we’ve worked hard on it. I can sit there and it brings me lots of joy

This thread ❤️❤️❤️ you all have such beautiful homes. Really inspiring. I have crap taste and never know what to do. I need to sort out my house (moved in last year post divorce) and I'm almost paralysed with indecision! One part I do love though is my garden. When I moved in it was completely concreted over. Not so much as a weed growing, no shade, echoing sounds. I had my lovely talented friend make it over (she's a landscape gardener) and this is my favourite part:

Gardens are the room most people overlook. It is also the only room where the wallpaper changes during the year and it has automatic lighting.

RightWhereYouLeftMe · 14/05/2023 19:22

My house is generally a tip with toys and mess, none of it looks lovely like these pictures! But we have really nice 3m wide windows in the bedrooms, and the house backs onto woodland so I do like the view from DD1's bed. I know it's not a particularly remarkable or beautiful tree, but we are lucky to have woodland right outside our door. When DD1 was a baby, if she was crying she'd always calm if taken to this window and could see the branches moving in the wind. She'd be entranced!

@LibertyLily thank you for the extra pics! Happy to confirm that they didn't disappoint. Your house looks crazily gorgeous and fascinating!

Swansandcustard, beautiful wallpaper and tiles.

So many lovely gardens.

I don’t have issues with it, so you don’t need to wonder why. I said people should be more careful, and yeah I do think that posting very identifying information about your house on a website used by thousands of people is a bit naive at best. But I’m sure the person on here whose house I managed to find in a few minutes has thought it through 🙄

I’d struggle to know which bit to pick.

Like @Optimalise mine is a post abusive relationship home so that fact it is a completely safe space and decorated and furnished entirely to my taste after years of not being allowed to choose my own decor means I love all of it really.

My ex’s style was pretty much non existent but he certainly didn’t love mine (which is quirky tbf!) and the house was magnolia from top to bottom when I bought it as it had been a rental property.

The Wall of Warhol in my dining area is something I planned while I was still living with my parents going through the divorce. I also love it because everyone I know was horrified when I told them I was painting the wall black, but they all loved it when it was done.

My bar was also a mid divorce limbo purchase from a junk shop that I’ve upcycled and banana light a gift from a friend.

So both reminders of where I was and how far I’ve come 😊
