The lovely bit of your house

So, in my head I have a house straight out of a swanky interiors magazine, but in reality with 2 teenage boys, a full time job and a life, it's a very long way from that.
However, one little corner of the bathroom always gives me joy.
I thought it would be nice to post a picture of the tiny little bit of your house that gives you hope, even if like mine the rest of it is full of discarded trainers, laundry waiting to be put away and last night's left over pizza.

Lovely idea for a thread! Here are a few of mine. Probably too cluttered for some people’s taste but I love my house!

Yes, that was a little random @AnotherElaine! @Roussette and I are posting about LG colour and get completely dragged into a completely different conversation! 😂 Good choice by the way Roussette, and it really does look stunning.
@kokeshidolls, I really don’t care about outing, if I’m recognised then so be it. I’d happily be on here with my full name on my posts! I think we’re all grown ups here but thanks for worrying about us!

@bookworm14 - now you’ve made me want to re read Scruples!

Weirdly I do have Scruples but it’s not in that photo! Could be Lace by Shirley Conran which has a similar looking spine. I enjoy a bonkbuster! 😄

bookworm14 · 14/05/2023 22:21

Actually it is in the photo - I’m an idiot!

The bedroom wallpaper is Morris and Co Honeysuckle, a treat to myself after a tough couple of years. The chair is original 1930s.

so much wonderful sense of colour and fabrics on here! Very inspiring

We moved from a tiny house with no outdoor space and overlooked windows to a house in the middle of nowhere and a completely private and large back garden.

It’s a bit of a blank canvass right now, but my favourite spot is right here. You could run around naked and nobody could see, we’re surrounded by trees and birdsong.

Love this 😀 We are thinking of putting in a picture rail so we can rotate art prints more easily

I love this thread and sat thinking about my own home and I cannot choose a favourite place, there are many, indoors and out, and I keep changing my mind. It made me realise how fortunate I am.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 15/05/2023 12:25

I know exactly what you mean @quietheart very fortunate to have a space one can find peace in.
I posted a few and since others have posted I've been thinking "Oh yea, why didn't I post my reading nook or my kitchen bar"!.

Pudmyboy · 15/05/2023 12:57

Cheap little IKEA bench on which I sit and listen to birdsong and the breeze through the trees. Ordinary urban back garden but my little sanctuary

@Kitsmummy you're welcome and thank you!

It's been a really hard slog to get the house - and garden - to this kind of state (and not quite finished yet!), but once it's done we'll be selling up as we want to be closer to family 🙄

Gardens are the room most people overlook. It is also the only room where the wallpaper changes during the year and it has automatic lighting.

This is so true! I never understand why you see so many houses for sale that are lovely inside yet the garden - which could be such a special additional 'room' - has been neglected.

Thankfully there are some gorgeous gardens on here....and @oldwrinklyhands your grape vine in its fab sun/greenhouse is amazing!

Also, I love your super cute pooches @WeaselKingHenry

Because making and keeping a garden beautiful takes time and effort! (And money too a lot of the time.)

There are some gorgeous inspirational gardens on here, but I know personally I wouldn't be able to create or maintain one like that. I'm considering what elements I might be able to do to make mine a bit more interesting but have to be realistic about it sadly.

Definitely! I know that our 0.5 acre garden was described as 'magical' by the EAs marketing it (prior to it being repossessed), when it was actually an overgrown mass of brambles, stinging nettles, ground elder, ginormous laurels and huge trees, if the historic photos are anything to go by.

I totally don't blame the previous owners (an older couple with busy lives but no DC) for letting it become that way as I find it completely overwhelming sometimes and I love gardening (and am at home all day)...but I do question why they bought somewhere with such a huge outside space if they had neither the time nor inclination, let alone the £££ to maintain it.

Tbh, it had quite obviously been neglected for years as there were very few apparent signs of deliberate planting, except a 20' acer and 10' rhododendron.

We've spent well in excess of £10k on the garden (and that's doing everything ourselves) and have barely scratched the surface.

My orchids in the conservatory. They flower every year and I've never killed one yet! Also the cats leave them alone. They make me feel sophisticated, like someone from an Agatha Christie novel, elegantly tending to my exotic blooms in the hot house.

How lovely...I'm so impressed...I've never managed to get one to flower again. Have you got any tips?

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 15/05/2023 19:39

How can you bear to sell up, @LibertyLily ? It’s so gorgeous, and you’ve put so much into it!

Thanks @MummyJ12 thats very gracious of you, especially for MN. I’m not a stalker but I do worry that people don’t know how easy it is to figure stuff out from info posted online.
Cheers Wineand yes, this is a lovely thread!
