BoE set to raise interest rates

https://twitter.com/Haggis_UK/status/1656553898579210241?s=20

Prof Martin Weale(former member BoE MPC) - "Inflationary pressures seem to be stronger in Britain... caused by the effects of brexit & limiting immigration..."

Every single Tory will deny this of course.

It's a real shame that Labour won't acknowledge brexit as a disaster. I have always voted Labour and will do so again. But, unless Starmer is in fact a Tory as the Labour left would have you believe, it is increasingly depressing to see them fear the backlash so much that they don't oppose what clearly needs to be opposed.

I want to believe that this is an attempt to ensure those who would vote Tory, will jump ship but I'm becoming less and less certain of that.

Zonder · 11/05/2023 09:38

SerendipityJane · 11/05/2023 08:48

This is not how you treat either the medical workforce or prioritise the nations health.

But haven't we already learned that isn't the governments job ? My recollection of post Brexit governments is that slowly but surely there have been successive statements from successive ministers that all and any part of daily life isn't their responsibility. It's ours. Couple that with a supine press, and you land up where we are. A fucking massive government taking more money that at any time in history from a country that's poorer than it's been for 3 generations, and it's "nobodys fault" except Jeremy Corbyn. Or Ukraine. Or Meghan. Or whatever.

I so wish this was parody. It's incredible to think this is where our country has fallen to. And yet people still vote Tory.

I notice that well known party of truth - the Tories - are "promising" they won't enter into any electoral pacts at the next election. Not that I believe a word of it.

Who’d enter into a pact with them anyway? Apart from Tice’s rabble.

PinkCherryBlossoms · 11/05/2023 09:47

In the same vein, I would like to confirm that I will not be entering into a pact to shag Tom Hardy.

TransPennine Express to be brought under government control

This means this anti-nationalisation Tory government has now nationalised no fewer than four railways in five years

Niche point but Braverman wants to limit non-compete clauses to 3 months.
So Sue Grey should relax. She should be free to work for Starmer by July.

The thing they seem to be missing with Sue Grey is her age. She’s 65 so eligible for her Civil Service pension now. She could work for Starmer for nothing and there’s fuck all the government or anyone else could do about it.

that would be quite funny.

Yeah I'd probably put in for a crowdfunder on that one, just for giggles.

This is so offensive. The wokerati would never eat snails. Tofu only.

Are you sure that French wokerati dont' eat snails?

Bit presumptious of the Tories to think that they will win enough seats for anyone to consider asking the Tories to supply the last few votes that would be needed to make a majority.

Kemi Badenoch had her arse handed to her by the speaker I see. I guess that's what comes of working for a Borgia

From Boris fan girl, Allison Pearson today

After the local elections, to find out what went wrong, I spoke to Mrs Julia Despairing-Tory and her husband, Mr Roger Despairing-Tory, Conservative party members in the True Blue constituency of Dunvoting.

Julia and Roger always vote as a point of principle. So, this time, they went to the polling station and spoiled their ballot papers. “The word ‘off’ may have featured,” reports Roger grimly.

The Conservatives lost 1,060 councillors overall.

“Serves them bloody well right,” says Roger.

Hang on, aren’t you supposed to be the party faithful?

“After 13 years of Conservative government,” fumes Roger, “I’m paying more tax than at any time in my life. And what are we getting for it, eh? Bugger all, that’s what. Only time I get to see our GP is in Waitrose. Try to access any public service and it’s, ‘Go away, nobody works on Fridays any more. Or on Monday, that’s our anxiety workshop. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are receiving a high volume of calls blah blah.’ Give me strength! How long will they be using that excuse?”

“Potholes, darling,” says Julia.

“What? Oh, God, yes. When are they going to fill the one in the High Street? Never, that’s when. A tank could get lost in there. It’s a metaphor for the state of the nation. Fuel bills sky high and now they want to take away our log burner.”

Oh, they don’t do they, darling? Why are they behaving like those ghastly Green people?”

“Because they’ve forgotten what it is to be Conservative, Julia! High-tax, high-spend party. Hunt makes Gordon Brown look like Nigel Lawson.”

“Ooh, Nigel was marvellous.”

“Yes, because he was a CONSERVATIVE, Julia. Not like this spineless bunch. No strategy for growth. Destroyed the private rental market. Filling hotels with Albanian drug lords.”

“I know. Cynthia and Bill had to cancel Katie’s wedding reception at Midstone Manor because it’s block-booked for asylum seekers.”

“Taking us for fools, Julia. Soaking up what used to be our disposable income because this idiot Government can’t control our borders.”

“We won’t have to cancel the cruise, will we, Roger? Anton Du Beke’s giving a foxtrot demonstration.”

“I want to see the Conservatives destroyed.”

“Oh, dear. Can we still go to the Association dinner?”

“None of them are voting Tory either.”

“Surely, Marcus must be, darling. He’s the MP?”

“Not for long.”

Nice work from Lindsay Hoyle. I wish John Bercow could return for a guest spot. Badenoch should think herself lucky he can't. And she should stand up straight rather than drape herself on the furniture. Slack.

Blossomtoes · 11/05/2023 13:14

She’s a vile creature.

Yup.
And anyone who thinks the UK is immune from such politics should think on. US $ (or ruble) can buy a lot of influence.

I wonder if Sunak will u turn on this as well? And Braverman will no longer be attending?

Sunak could get away with throwing Braverman under the bus if he wanted to. As well as being a fucking idiot, her faction of the party no longer has any power and doesn't need to be appeased now. The conditions that existed when she was appointed because the ERG needed a sop have now evaporated.

I think this mess is unsalvageable for the Tories, but if they had any inclination to try then getting rid of Suella would be a great start.

Why shouldn't the Home Secretary attend an event with her fellow travellers?

Interesting to see a backlash against our PMs ethnic background starting to smoulder. The irony being it's his "chums" that have enabled and encouraged it. This is what happens when "piccaninnies" is just bantz, Rishi.

We don't hear the word bifurcate enough, in my opinion. But it's still what is happening to the Tories. Some will be nodding vigorously at the notion of being "too Hindu". Some will be appalled by it.

Not quite sure I like the idea of England developing the same tribalism about religion you see elsewhere in the world. I thought we'd dealt with that centuries ago.
