For me it’s the utterly obscure baby names. We’ve all seen them and I’m quite sure nobody uses them in real life. Yet on MN, it’s apparently standard.

Honourable mention to the 50% of posters whose husbands are earning upwards of £100K too.

or ( as mentioned upthread) the ‘and why did you have children with this man?’ about anyone who has had the ‘stupidity’ to have a child with someone who has subsequently turned into an arsehole.

That one can be particularly insidious considering the figures on domestic abuse and violence starting, or escalating massively, during pregnancy and shortly after.

They all have perfect teenagers whose worst offence is leaving a wet towel on the floor.

I find the opposite! Like all teenagers are lying, having sex and parties when you’re not there. If I’ve ever said “my teen wouldn’t do that” I’ve been called naive, like I don’t know my own kid.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/03/2023 23:49

MIL has lit up a ciggie in the lounge after dinner

Well your DH needs to speak to his Mother, how dare she

How about , no actually , I am an adult , MIL is an adult , I am perfectly capable of handing her an ashtray and saying "We;re a non smoking house , can you stub that out? Thanks"

No need to wring my hands , whine to DH look what she's doing , kill her with fire , just say "Don't"

Bulking things out with lentils. Sounds deeply unpleasant (and gassy).

Slim active teens who eat like horses.

Living semi-rural. I don't even know what the fuck that means and it annoys me.

I am in stitches at the lentils. The amount of times I’ve seen that comment crop up on Mumsnet. So true 😂

  • LTB
  • could they have ASD/ADHD when anyone asks for parenting help
  • anyone elderly and rude has dementia
  • neurodiverse completely overused its like the latest buzz word. Then when asked if they have a diagnosis of course they don’t.
Anycolouryoulike · 31/03/2023 23:51

The teenagers hate.

MN is definitely not the place to get advice on teenagers.

What annoys me on here... Some of what has been said already a number of times.

AND

People who make snarky remarks when other posters say they live rurally (like they don't believe them.) Clearly jealous.

People who get arsey that some people don't like answering the door when they're not expecting anyone. Why should they? Confused Why do so many people on here have a stick up their arse about posters not wanting to answer the door when they are not expecting anyone? Are these people who get annoyed, the kind of unsufferable articles who 'pop in unexpectedly' and expect people to drop everything to accommodate them? It bloody sounds like it!

The really horrible treatment of sahp and particularly sahm. Nasty and calling them stupid at worst and incredibly patronising and ‘concerned’ at best. Don’t put everyone in a box. Taking 3 years out of paid work to do it isn’t as horrific as you all think.

I went on maternity leave 17 years ago, never went back there’s no hope for me 😂.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 31/03/2023 23:40

Jeez that’s horrid.
People really can be awful.

you have to wonder what kind of person gets a kick from that kind of nastiness.

Is that the recent one where the husband admitted hitting the baby?

poor woman mentioned he’d probably be able to still get access to baby in future. Cue massive pile on of people saying ‘how dare you think of letting him see his child when he’s done this!’

she was saying it in the context that she was worried about him still seeing kid. But all the thickos assumed she was wanting to give him access.

I was appalled at that thread. That woman had been so strong and brave and did everything correctly to protect her baby.

MrsR87 · 31/03/2023 23:55

Also, the amount of posters that are vile about teachers and NHS staff and often boast about how they’ve had a go at a teacher (who may have simply committed the offence of offending their child by asking them not to talk during task explanations) or been horrible to a nurse because of how long they’ve waited in A&E (when that nurse probably has nothing to do with staffing levels and has been working their backside off for 12 solid hours). Then in the next post will question why their child is being taught by none specialists or why there are 36 pupils in their child’s class or why there aren’t enough nurses.

DannyZukosSmile · 31/03/2023 23:56

DDOG, DCAT, and even worse, DNEPHEW and DNIECE.

GET. A. FUCKING. GRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just put dog, cat, nephew, or niece FFS. Angry

Tealknittedjumpers · 31/03/2023 23:58

Getting told you're an awful person for describing a situation where a nurse/social worker/ petrol station attendant wronged you, because you can't possibly complain about someone doing their job badly/rudely when they're on minimum wage in the public sector. Then they press you for so many insignificant details on your life story so far, and find out that you had an argument with your best friend age nine (drip drip drip, on your part of course) and use that as heated evidence that you are indeed a bully and a shit stirrer, and this poor arsehole who was on a power trip with you in the beginning of the story by refusing to give you your change/prescripe your mother paracetamol when her arm fell off, is a victim of you, because 'you sound like hard work OP'...

Another one I hate is when it's so obvious the woman is a single parent struggling, and wouldn't be posting about the situation with her UC, never ending parenting, having to get a pay day loan etc and someone always comes along to say "where's the child's father?", like it just wasn't obvious to the single mother to force her ex to stop neglecting his responsibilities.

Yeah I think the guy had fractured the 11 week old’s ribs. I’ve wondered about her a few times since reading it. Awful situation.

The weird body gloating posts! Everyone is apparently 8 stones and a size 10 despite me knowing very few people in real life in this category over the age of 25! A size 12 is definitely ‘obese’ and can’t possibly be healthy!

DannyZukosSmile · 01/04/2023 00:01

OH, the bloody 'am I pregnant' threads !!! ALWAYS posted with a clearly negative pregnancy test.

'LINE EYES LAYDEES.' Followed by 'oh I see a second line congratulations OP! Woo hoo!'

95% of the time there is NEVER a second line.

Strawberrypicnic · 01/04/2023 00:09

'Run, the hills are that way' on dating threads. Sometimes with a little arrow after the hills. So smug and condescending.

Tealknittedjumpers · 01/04/2023 00:10

When groups of people pile in to insist you can't POSSİBLY lose weight through exercise alone, and that it's only through eating lettuce, and accuse you of lying when you say you carried on eating burgers whilst hitting the gym every night and dropped a couple of dress sizes. İf they do eventually believe you, they'll tell you that the weight will come back eventually because it's not scientifically impossible to eat carbs and stay slim.

People just read what they want to find an excuse to jump on an OP a lot of the time.

There was one a while back where someone was having to take their child to a contact centre to see their vile ex.

The number of posters that said “I just wouldn’t go” was unreal. It was court ordered contact and she’d been warned it would be dealt with harshly if she didn’t.

Yet some on here felt that support was “well I’d just put my child first and not go”. Like she had a fucking choice.

Any thread posted about animal mistreatment will be countered by

"Well I expect you are vegan then"

You don't have to be vegan to be repulsed by animal cruelty .
