God I feel really upset by this. Such a lovely compassionate man and his voice was the background to our Sunday afternoons for years.

He is one of the few people I wish I’d met to tell him how bloody fabulous he his.

QOD · 29/03/2023 07:03

He lives locally 😢
pre Covid you’d see him in Waitrose and out and about and just think he was someone you knew to nod and say hi to.
i am gutted

NashvilleQueen · 29/03/2023 07:03

His Desert Island Discs episode is really good Certain bits of it still come into my mind quite often. Sad news.

Weatherwax13 · 29/03/2023 07:05

Still my top TV moment of all time @augustusglupe

Boussa · 29/03/2023 07:05

RIP

I greatly admired him for his love and commitment to dogs.

Nitgel · 29/03/2023 07:06

So sad, such a lovely man. He will be so missed.

Awkwardsauce · 29/03/2023 07:06

Read this sad news as I got up to feed my cats, tears were streaming. It's not often that a celebrity death affects me like that. My parents will be gutted too, they love his dog programme. RIP Paul.

Spidey66 · 29/03/2023 07:12

Very sad news, he seemed a genuinely lovely guy.

I loved him on FTLOD. I was at school with Ali (the behaviourist with purple hair). They always seemed to have a lovely relationship.

PuppyMonkey · 29/03/2023 07:13

So sad. Malcolm has tweeted that he went to see him yesterday and he was in fine form. Sad

Train007 · 29/03/2023 07:14

Such a lovely, genuine man who was a great ambassador for animals ,particularly Battersea ,So sad 😞

IPlayedFortnite · 29/03/2023 07:16

This is so sad and a massive shock. I really liked him.

Keekabooyou · 29/03/2023 07:19

So shocked to wake up to this sad news. 😢 condolences to all his family. Just hope he is reunited with all his wonderful pets gone before him.

cushioncovers · 29/03/2023 07:23

Sad news. What an awful shock for his partner.

tiger2691 · 29/03/2023 07:25

Good bloke, RIP Paul

Trudij123 · 29/03/2023 07:25

I was lucky enough to meet him a couple of times and as others have said - lovely ( bloody hillarious!) man. He will be missed all over the world, but by none more than his friends and family. I got my dog from Battersea and the girls told me he’d sit with her in her kennel for hours to try and help her with her fear of humans - he was just as special off screen as on.

RIP you wonderful, wonderful man.

LlynTegid · 29/03/2023 07:26

May he rest in peace.

I saw him as Lily Savage about 30 years ago at the Edinburgh Fringe. Laughed more that at almost all other comedy gigs I have ever been to.

Vinorosso74 · 29/03/2023 07:26

Very sad news. He was a good person and animal lover. I visited Battersea a few years ago and they had a Christmas tree up really early due to him filming (we didn't see him) but one of the staff said he would see there much longer than the filming to be with the dogs.

LindorDoubleChoc · 29/03/2023 07:27

I really could cry. I absolutely loved him - his Radio 2 show was an utter joy and really stood out from the rest of their bland offerings. I read somewhere recently that he was going to start another radio show somewhere else? I am SO utterly sad about this Sad Sad Sad. Think how much his husband and loved ones and beloved pets are going to miss him! Oh dear.

gogohmm · 29/03/2023 07:29

@GoodChat

He'd had two heart attacks, one had put him in intensive care around 10 years ago. May he rest in peace, nice chap

whiteroseredrose · 29/03/2023 07:31

Really sad. I don't usually get this upset about someone I don't know in person but he seemed so genuinely nice.

We all loved For the Love of Dogs particularly when he ended up taking another one home.

So sad for his partner.

Quitelikeacatslife · 29/03/2023 07:31

Really sad news, such a genuine entertainer and authenticity shining through everything he did . Loved his book too. Real trailblazer with Lilly. RIP

Quitelikeacatslife · 29/03/2023 07:32

Oh and BBC wrongly saying partner when it is his husband (eye roll)

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 29/03/2023 07:34

I remember him on Richard and Judy as Lily, especially one Christmas when he did the wine tasting, getting increasingly more pissed. Judy was crying with laughter. May his memory be a blessing.

Ellmau · 29/03/2023 07:34

So sad. I loved his dog programme.

I hope his husband is able to keep all the animals.
