@MadameSzyszkoBohusz - he accepted an MBE and was a Deputy Lieutenant. So I don't see why he would have turned down a knighthood.

When you think if the likes of Gavin Williamson being knighted - there's no justice!

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 01/04/2023 09:49

Oh I didn't know that. Then, yes, it's surprising he wasn't offered one. Maybe it was on the cards?

SlipSlidinAway · 01/04/2023 10:30

Never mind a knighthood, they should have put him in the House of Lords! Could you imagine him wearing robes and that wonderful voice putting everyone right!

SlipSlidinAway · 01/04/2023 10:32

Just a reminder about Battersea's tribute fund for Paul. Over £100k now.

HowWoo · 01/04/2023 11:05

I think I've cried over Paul more than I did my grandad passing (didn't care for him much though in fairness!)

I just have so many fond memories of him and in all his interviews he's just so bloody funny. And there's been so many touching tributes.

I just hope he knew how much people loved him in life too.

Jellykat · 01/04/2023 19:16

Brilliant that the Battersea dogs home tribute fund is now over £143k! ❤

JaneJeffer · 01/04/2023 19:27

Watching Blankety Blank. I wish they would repeat all of them.

It's on all the time on the TV channel 'Challenge'

JaneJeffer · 01/04/2023 23:19

Oh thanks @HowWoo

£158,555 now! Incredible.

Mr O'Grady would be delighted.

The fact that a lot of people who wrote in seemed to be of advanced years – the requests were often to thank helpful younger family members or carers – said a great deal about the breadth of his appeal. Pensioners seemed to adore him. The fact that O’Grady resigned after being asked to share his slot with comedian Rob Beckett – in his 30s, more given to playing Blur and Dua Lipa, less inclined to discuss dead pets or thank a granddaughter – tells you rather more about Radio 2’s ageism-with-impunity, its desire to skew its audience younger, than the departure of Ken Bruce. Frankly, it was their loss.

The irony that they ditched Paul O'Grady (67) from Radio 2 when this afternoon they had Bill Nighy (73) sitting in for Iggy Pop (75) on BBC 6 music

‘I’m Lily Savage, the blonde bombsite’ – the genius of Paul O’Grady, by Suzy Eddie Izzard, Russell T Davies and more

A boundary-busting standup, a radio sensation, a knockout on TV, a champion for LGBTQ rights, and a pet-lover extraordinaire … stars and writers pay tribute to the many lives of Paul O’Grady

Tribute fund is over £200k now. I hope it's some consolation to his family to see all the messages of love, thanks and admiration donors are leaving.

His radio show was absolutely glorious. Radio 2 were clueless cultural vandals for the way they treated him and Malcolm.

BloomForever · 03/04/2023 04:20

He really did seem like such a nice and down to earth guy, but you could tell he had a bit of spark about him if that makes sense.
I think lots of animal.charities will benefit a lot from his passing, which is so awful, but what a legacy to leave.

Crumpetdisappointment · 03/04/2023 16:21

i jsut watched For the Love of Dogs, a royal visit, this morning,
never seen it,
he came across so well, funny and caring.

EachandEveryone · 09/04/2023 20:09

The tribute is just starting now on itv.

Cryingovernothing · 09/04/2023 21:34

What an amazing human he was. He clearly had a whole lot of love that had to be shared with the world, it seems like it really was a privilege to have been in his world

Stravawindow · 10/04/2023 06:39

The ending where he was saying goodbye, I was in floods of tears. I’m so going to miss for the love of dogs. I think I’d like to see Tom Hardy do a follow up episode I’m memory of Paul.

EachandEveryone · 10/04/2023 10:17

I wonder how many of his friends did adopt because of him?😃 i cant think of anyone that could replace him. I cant stop thinking about his farm, do you think the husband will take it over?

Enfys1982 · 10/04/2023 11:32

I don’t think his husband lived with him all the time. He always made a big thing of living alone apart from the dogs, because he said he was so grumpy and other people annoyed him 😂. This was fairly recently. Maybe that changed though.

RichardsGear · 10/04/2023 23:10

Alan Carr would be good to take over because he's also a huge dog lover (and he makes me laugh) but really, I think Paul O'G is irreplaceable and the programme will probably be finished now.

The tribute last night also had me in floods of tears. I noticed there was no mention of Murphy.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 11/04/2023 00:00

Not in the review of his life, no (wonder why?) but when the credits came up it said 'In memory of Paul O'Grady' and then said underneath 'And Brendan Murphy'.

EachandEveryone · 11/04/2023 00:01

I thought it was dedicated to Paul and Murphy at the end? Murphy wasnt his name at all Im sure that was his name at the end.

RichardsGear · 11/04/2023 00:05

No, Murphy was his long term partner who died of a brain tumour some years ago.

EachandEveryone · 11/04/2023 00:06

Honestly I have seen his real name come up at the end of one of the tribute shows. I kniw who he is Ive read all the books 🙂
