Just come up on BBC News. He was 67.

Oh no this is so sad. He seemed like the loveliest man.
Always think of him as Lily in Liverpool, with Richard & Judy in the wine segment, pretending to get slaughtered and lobbing his wine glass into the Albert Dock. He could make me laugh like no one else.
RIP Paul.

And he used to be a social worker. Packed a full life in and respected the workers. I love that he lived on his farm and had grandchildren. He had many stories to tell 😃

custardbear · 29/03/2023 04:36

The world is a sadder place without him - he was brilliant.

I remember when he was Lily Savage for a few years and seeing a clip of him without makeup etc and was shocked lol ... but he quickly became Paul rather than Lily and what a different but great presenter.
Thought we'd lost him all those years back with his heart attack, but he pulled through thankfully.
I will certainly miss him now he's gone 🥺

I remember this so well. Richard and Judy were trying to do a serious wine tasting/review and Lily was getting more and more drunk. 😂 He was just hilarious whether he was playing Lily or being himself. I just loved him.

The best of Scousers. RIP dear Paul

Yirk · 29/03/2023 05:05

Will miss Paul and his lovely dogs, seemed a genuinely nice guy. Rest in love.

Tighginn · 29/03/2023 05:10

He was on Demi Donnelly's YouTube channel last week.

Elderflower14 · 29/03/2023 05:14

Absolutely heartbroken and I know ds2 will be too.. We both loved watching him on his Battersea show. He read a request out from me on his Radio 2 show. I have all his autobiographies 💔 💔 💔

WGACA · 29/03/2023 05:24

It’s such sad news.

romdowa · 29/03/2023 05:27

Gutted to hear this. I loved his show with the rescue dogs, you could genuinely see his passion for the animals and he rescued so many himself as well.

Pollywoddles · 29/03/2023 05:28

What?? Oh no, that’s very sad, he seemed like a lovely person.

Chickdaft · 29/03/2023 05:30

So sad, was just watching his old ‘a night with Lily savage earlier’ and his books are hilarious and just so good to read. One of out best true sarcastic, truly funny down to earth comedians.

Simonjt · 29/03/2023 05:40

His poor husband

Isthisexpected · 29/03/2023 05:45

This is really sad news. I'm comforted by the PP saying he's been out and about up until yesterday.

loislovesstewie · 29/03/2023 05:53

Oh no! I thought he was a really lovely, genuine man. RIP Paul. Condolences to his family and friends.

TrianglePlayer · 29/03/2023 06:03

So sad to read this when I got up this morning. He always seemed such a genuine caring man and I’m pleased to see that those who were lucky enough to meet him have confirmed this.

Saucery · 29/03/2023 06:09

Ahhh, no. Such a funny and compassionate man.

Cakeykid · 29/03/2023 06:09

Really sad news! He seemed such a genuine guy.

Apparently it was a heart attack, but this isn't confirmed. His poor partner.

ArrrMeHearties · 29/03/2023 06:09

I really liked paul o grady especially his battersea program. You always knew he would be taking a dog home at the end of the series. Rip the world is a duller place without paul in it

Lostinthesouth · 29/03/2023 06:10

I am so sad, got Covid atm do feeling sorry for myself anyway.
It sounds ridiculous but Paul’s radio programme was one of the few things that got me through the first lockdown , I was so completely isolated as I live alone, his warmth and kindness meant such a lot to me even though it was only once a week. God Bless and RIP X

Fedupofdiets · 29/03/2023 06:11

That is such sad news. He kept me company on the radio on many long commutes. RIP 😔

Fuctifin0 · 29/03/2023 06:12

Sad 😪

Bernadinetta · 29/03/2023 06:13

Goodness, what a shock. I just saw him playing Miss Hannigan in Annie the musical on stage two weeks ago. He was brilliant. RIP Paul.

DrHousecuredme · 29/03/2023 06:16

Oh no, this is one of the few celebrity deaths that's genuinely affected me...so sad, I loved his work with animals. I always thought he must be a decent person to love dogs as much as he did.
