Just come up on BBC News. He was 67.

😢

Such sad news. I loved him and Malcom on his Radio show and the tributes to people's pets who had passed away. Actually I loved all of his career and he did so much good work for animals. RIP Paul.

Knullrufs · 29/03/2023 08:57

Very sad news. I connected to the world through comedy as a kid and a teen and Paul O’Grady (as Lily Savage) was one of my favourites. Warm yet outrageous and just naturally extremely funny.

He did so much good for the gay community during the AIDS crisis. A real community service when the rest of society was turning away.

R.I.P. 💖

Absolutely gutted about this. He did so much for Battersea, and raised the profile of rescue massively.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 29/03/2023 08:59

Such sad news to wake up to. He seemed like such a lovely man.

RoseBucket · 29/03/2023 09:01

So sad, really shocked actually 😞

KimberleyClark · 29/03/2023 09:04

Sad, shocking news. He seemed lovely. RIP Paul.

Badger1970 · 29/03/2023 09:08

For someone to die unexpectedly but peacefully, I think, is a really kind ending. Shock for everyone around them though.

I loved the attention he brought to Battersea and really respected him for that. Anyone who loves dogs is a good un in my book. Rest in Peace.

PSG · 29/03/2023 09:09

I loved Paul O’Grady. Rest in piece.

FlipFlops4Me · 29/03/2023 09:10

I loved his way with dogs, and his genuine love and affection for them. You can't fool a dog and they all loved him! He must have been a truly good man.

augustusglupe · 29/03/2023 04:27

Oh no this is so sad. He seemed like the loveliest man.
Always think of him as Lily in Liverpool, with Richard & Judy in the wine segment, pretending to get slaughtered and lobbing his wine glass into the Albert Dock. He could make me laugh like no one else.
RIP Paul.

Oh yes this. I’ve never forgotten it. Fabulous. Bless you Paul xxx

Giletjaune · 29/03/2023 09:19

Such sad news, so sorry for his loved ones.

RIP.

HashtagShitShop · 29/03/2023 09:25

Absolutely gutted. A real giant of a man. Warm, kind and genuine. Never heard anyone say a bad word against him, even just fans or people in the street.

He will be hugely missed 😔🐶

SandLResources · 29/03/2023 09:25

Me and my Mum have such different tastes in comedy...but one of my fondest memories is us sitting on her bed together watching Lily Savage (particularly her routine of the take-down of the cleaner at Heathrow Airport) and crying laughing. It was in the days before you could pause live TV and we missed most of it from still laughing at the last gag.

Babyroobs · 29/03/2023 09:28

So sad. RIP Paul.

pontipinemum · 29/03/2023 09:30

Very said. I bet there are lots of furry friends waiting for him at the gates. He done so much for dogs. Loved watching his show.

Mumsafan · 29/03/2023 09:33

Absolutely bloody heartbreaking 😢😢

He did so much for the gay community especially in the 80s , and was such a great supporter of people in other areas and obviously Battersea.

So sad he doesn't get to see Eurovision in his hometown as well.

I can't believe how much this has affected me tbh. Like a friend has passed.

Hope all the dogs were waiting for him x

Abhannmor · 29/03/2023 09:42

RIP Paul. A big heart and a real Scouse wit. Yes , I know he was from Birkenhead.

💐 💐

SeanDanielorBalonz · 29/03/2023 09:44

This really shook me. He seemed like such a good egg. Thinking of his loved ones

MorrisZapp · 29/03/2023 09:47

What were the posh old couple called on Brookside? The lady was Annabel I think. Paul did a cameo as Lily Savage, turning up to open a fete or something and the old geezer fancied him 😂 Broad comedy but I absolutely pissed myself 😁

doubtfulguest · 29/03/2023 09:51

He will be missed. Have great memories of seeing him as Lily on stage.

LeaveAndNeverLookBack · 29/03/2023 09:52

Never met him in RL but he had real talent, his character Lily Savage was just brilliant.
A lot of drag artists these days seem rather unsavoury whereas he was really clever and witty.

slowquickstep · 29/03/2023 09:58

Heartbreaking news, he seemed such a lovely soul.

JumpToRecipe · 29/03/2023 09:59

Really sorry to hear this. I was surprised to realise that he was only 67 as he had been around on telly for so long, and seems to have packed about three careers into his lifetime. I will miss his programmes.

BlueisthenewGrey · 29/03/2023 10:01

RIP Paul O'Grady. A fabulous comedian so many programmes. I was very lucky to see Lily Savage in Prisoner Cell Block H the musical. Absolutely gutted.

I feel like this too and I never feel like this about people I've never met.
