Just come up on BBC News. He was 67.

I read two of his early autobiographies years ago and he had a fascinating life.
He did lots of different jobs.
He was definitely a people person

RichardsGear · 29/03/2023 16:18

I just loved him. His books were hilarious, you could hear his voice when reading them. Loved all his work. He'll be a huge miss.

The difference with Paul O’Grady dressing up as Lily Savage was that it was an affectionate (if dough found the edges) celebration of the women in his life.

A million miles away from the sexualised nasty sideswipe at women as it appears to be now.

Lily was never that. Many of us recognised the Lily in people we knew.

But aye. That won’t suit the agenda.

Rough not dough.

Ah yes, so funny, back when morning tele was great.
Then later on his Ch4 show, he was a natural interviewer. Such a lovely man.

Crackery · 29/03/2023 19:10

Such a shock! I saw him on Saturday as Miss Hannigan in Annie (Edinburgh). He was fabulous!

Yellowdays · 29/03/2023 19:29

This was another side of him than the "Camilla leads the tributes...":

So sad he seemed a very genuine and nice man. Loved his books and watching "For the Love of Dogs". Condolences to his family and friends💐

Paul seemed like such a kind, decent gentleman. There will be many waggy tails in heaven tonight.

That's such a nice thought!

Morgysmum · 30/03/2023 18:16

It's such a shock.
I remember watching his channel 4 program, when I was pregnant with my son, it turns out Paul's daughter was pregnant and due, around Christmas time, I was due Christmas day. His daughter had her baby I think on boxing day, I remember being jealous, as I was overdue with my son. I remember watching the program with my son, wondering if Paul's daughter was watching and nursing her little one too.
I loved watching his dog program and I did enjoy watching his as Lily Savage too. He was an all round good guy.

Bookloverjay · 30/03/2023 23:05

Its absolutely devastatung that Paul O'Gardy's died.

He was and always will be a national treasure. I will miss him and his programmes.

In some ways it feels like I've lost a close friend

isitshe · 30/03/2023 23:18

The world was a better place with him in it 🙁

This.
And there are few in the public eye you can say that about.

T1Dmama · 31/03/2023 15:14

RIP Sir

LadyEloise1 · 31/03/2023 18:15

He should have been given a title.

When you think of some of the people who were given knighthoods/peerages 🙄😡

TwoCoffeesandAMilkshake · 31/03/2023 18:49

Love Lily Savage - always laughing with not mocking. Nothing like the woman-face of today.

ellyeth · 31/03/2023 19:16

I didn't find out until yesterday that Paul O'Grady had died. I was so sorry. He seemed such a nice, humane, man. I actually spoke to him once on the phone in the course of my job, and he was not at all pushy or full of himself, quite the opposite.

Entirely possible he was offered one and turned it down. Not everyone who's offered honours accepts them.

LadyEloise1 · 01/04/2023 09:13

That's true @MadameSzyszkoBohusz
