Ever queued behind anyone famous? I once queued up in Boots behind Wendy Craig,

This is a great thread!

Mine in queues:
Ian Hislop - Victoria station taxi rank
Michael Buerk (sp?)- Kings cross tube when they shut the gates for overcrowding
The posh blonde one from Motherland - was quite snooty IRL! - a country house museum
Bill Turnbull - airport

Met quite a few not in queues but through work in events and music. Prob top of the list of bizarre ones is in an old job I had to hand deliver a package to Woody Allen in Belgravia and he answered the door in a kind of 1950s style dressing gown and there were about 20 kids running around.

Donny Osmond (I was at school... I do not know why he was at my school but I was stood next to him like :| with no idea who he was. Technically this was a queue for his autograph so it counts, right?).

Mark Williams - don't remember what I was queuing for but I do remember him seeming really tall. Helpful I know.

Nathan Lane at the bar in the National theatre.

I see loads of randoms in queues for theatre loos, Jo Brand, Jessie Wallace, Trevor Nunn (obviously not in the queue but I walked past him whilst trying to find the loo)

I've seen various other rubbish celebs in crowds and queues (Carol McGiffin in the Ritz anyone? Andi Peters being a dickhead?) Due to my job I see a few of them doing whatever but I don't think that counts.

TheDogsMother · 23/03/2023 12:44

Michael Burke - Guildford Station, Matt Lucas and Sara Crowe (not together) - M & S Foodhall, Jonah Lomu (RIP) - WH Smith Heathrow, Julia Walters -local pub, Eric Clapton - Pizza Express

Washyourfaceinmysink · 23/03/2023 12:48

Kurt Cobain queued next to me at the bar in a London club - he was very polite: “this lady is before me”.

Peter Stringfellow at the airport going to Majorca. He was looking around a lot, being conspicuous - clearly wanted people to notice him!… but to be fair was very chatty and smiley.

Nicky Clarke at the dry cleaners in Tufnell Park.

PauliesWalnuts · 23/03/2023 13:05

Sadie Frost queuing for the cinema at Swiss Cottage with her kids.
Goran Ivanisovic at Heathrow McDonalds the year before he won Wimbledon.
I also have a travel tale of the sticky-fingered royal butler Paul Burrell - his seat was allocated next to mine on a Heathrow-Manchester shuttle. I was streaming with a cold and he asked the stewardess if he could be moved. She said no, and he sat as far away from me as possible, hanging over the arm of his chair with a slapped bum face.

Dara O'Brien and I both waited for bread to go through the toaster at the same time in a hotel in Manchester last month. I rushed back (with the toast) to tell DH.

ClaraThePigeon · 23/03/2023 13:11

No but I was attending a work related event once and I'd visited just about every other stand, so I finally went to the one with the biggest queue, having no idea what the attraction was and only realised when I got to the front, that everyone was waiting to meet Gary Lineker. He was very pleasant and friendly.

Objectionhearsayspeculation · 23/03/2023 13:13

Jack Gleeson and Richard Madden at a place in Ballycastle, they were really pleasant and I never watched Game of Thrones so hadn't a clue who they were until after we left and our friends creased up laughing at the fact DH and I clearly hadn't a clue who they were.
Kylie at a Pride event way back with my teenage BFF

Gordon Ramsey in a petrol station.

MarissaG · 23/03/2023 13:22

Kevin McCloud in Homebase.

Charles Dance wouldn’t be seen dead in Sainsbury’s!

newtb · 23/03/2023 13:25

Saw Penelope Keith in the foyer at the Palace Theatre in Manchester. Can't remember what was on - possibly Dave Allen or Victoria Wood.
Also queued behind Bobby Charlton in Woods butchers in Knutsford once. Just normal polite and unassuming. I knew him from somewhere, just couldn't work it out. Xh was very cross with me for not knowing.

gabsdot45 · 23/03/2023 13:28

Dublin airport. I was in a queue with John Waters. He is a fairly famous Irish journalist who is the father of one of Sinead O'Connors children.

TwigTheWonderKid · 23/03/2023 13:29

A few. Paul Merton and Caroline Quentin in a posh grocers in Wimbledon Village. They were having a massive row and split up not long after that. Nick Cave in an Italian cafe in Hove ( more than once) and Jonny Depp was in an adjacent passport control queue for Eurostar at Waterloo.

TwigTheWonderKid · 23/03/2023 13:30

Oh and Nigel Havers in Asda at Clapham Junction. He was buying a bottle of whiskey.

TwigTheWonderKid · 23/03/2023 13:31

And Glenda Jackson queuing for the loo at Waterloo station.

MaidOfSteel · 23/03/2023 13:36

Bryan Robson (former England footie team captain), at a funfair.

hettiethehare · 23/03/2023 13:41

Not queued, but I was in the next changing room to Anthea Turner in a shop in Richmond once (I think it might have been Whistles).

Paperexcelandpens · 23/03/2023 13:45

I queued behind Mike Walker (former Norwich City manager) once at a seafood stall in Sheringham.

Vilt · 23/03/2023 13:46

Pierce Brosnan was behind me in the queue for the cloakroom in a London restaurant once. I was quite flustered and only took my coat, forgot my laptop. He spotted it and came after me with it. Blush

Aliceinunderland · 23/03/2023 13:47

I once stood behind Paul Hollywood in the queue to enter a court building. I don't watch his TV programmes but his face was very familiar. Thinking he must be a solicitor that I have worked with before, I loudly said to him "Hi! How are you? Long time no see!" To which he looked completely shocked and just stared at me. As I walked off by colleague came over and asked me how I know Paul Hollywood at which point I probably died of embarrassment. It was so clear that I had no clue who he was 🤣

jays · 23/03/2023 13:48

Lemmy, he made me go first then paid, what a lovely man, he really was lovely,Robert Carlisle looking grumpy, as was I and for good reason, in a bank and Lenny Kravitz who was a non entity at a parking lot.

FruityLittleDrink · 23/03/2023 13:49

Him off DIY SOS in Tesco. He was talking to the cashier who made it clear she thought he was a complete know when she served me afterwards.

I sat behind Ricky Gervais at a Kate Bush gig a few years ago. Just when I was thinking life couldn't possibly get any better I heard him laughing. Massive fan of them both and I'll never forget that night.

Oh that's awesome!!

Wish I'd also been at that gig!

Wfhwannabe · 23/03/2023 13:51

Peter Kay... Queued may be inaccurate... He walked to the front of the line at cafe Nero as if us lowly commoners were invisible. He didn't get served. It was at the height of his fame about 20 years ago.
