Do you know any adult who still does that?

One of my friends and his brother still walk the stairs in their house on all four.

They're both in their mid twenties.

They seem to think it's completely normal and everyone does that!

Is it?

53 and I still love doing it when I get the chance! I thought it was just me.

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 21/03/2023 20:21

I do sometimes when running up the stairs but not going down

HalliwellManor · 21/03/2023 20:21

I've literally just done this 🤣,but I was playing with the dog chasing her up the stairs!
Normally,I don't do it.🤣

Yes I sometimes do this. It’s actually much easier than walking up on just your hind legs.

I am 50 and completely normal.

So not on your front legs then.....

BigFloppa · 21/03/2023 20:22

I do as have very steep narrow Victorian staircase

This is mind blowing - I've never seen an adult doing it, but apparently it's fairly common?! (Going by pp)

Same. How do you go downstairs on all fours ???

housemaus · 21/03/2023 20:35

I do, sometimes. Because it's fun and because I'm lazy. Sometimes because I want to go faster.

I just asked DH, who said "...No?" haha.

Bunnyhascovidnoteggs · 21/03/2023 16:11

Men who admit to sitting down to wee make me flinch.. Urgh....

Why?

I'd much rather a man sit down to wee, less chance of missing the target. DH has always been a sitter and it's definitely a plus.

If I saw an able bodied adult do this, I’d think they had a screw loose.

For the able bodied people who do this (if you have a mobility issue or physical ailment then no one’s asking you, the thread is directed toward able bodied people), do you do it in public? If not, why not? You say it’s perfectly normal. But you don’t do it in public because you know it’s disturbing.

Why is it disturbing though? It's not the norm, sure - which is why people don't do it in public, presumably, because it looks childish or unusual. But what's so disturbing about people being a bit silly/getting up the stairs faster/being childish in their own homes?

daisychain01 · 21/03/2023 20:40

What people do in the privacy and comfort of their own home is not for me to even think about, no matter what age they are or how grown up they should be. That's why there's a front door, so they can be free to have fun without being judged by outsiders.

An able bodied adult crawling up or down the stairs is very odd.

It’s more bounding than crawling to be fair. Well it is the way I do it.

Marsyas · 21/03/2023 16:12

I do it sometimes. Our stairs are very steep.
And I prefer men who wee sitting down. It’s cleaner and they don’t leave the loo seat up.

Yes to the loo seat!

Absolutely!

Jeez people really do like to poke, judge and micro-analyse a perfectly valid choice that is nothing to do with them. Unbelievable.

Iamblossom · 21/03/2023 16:14

I have never ever heard of this

No. Me either. Ffs 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈

Third-ed

or should that be Turd-ed Grin

CharlotteRose90 · 21/03/2023 20:44

I do when I’m drunk does that count

Tribollite · 21/03/2023 20:56

I'm 53 and do it now and again, slow-ish if I'm tired, more of a sprightly trot when lively.

I live alone but wouldn't really think twice about doing it in front of friends in my own home. I thought everyone did it as a kid and probably still did now and again as adults.

Going downstairs though...struggling to see how that would be easy or fun.

LindorDoubleChoc · 21/03/2023 20:56

"They seem to think it's completely normal and everyone does that!"

No they don't.

Novatherova · 21/03/2023 21:03

ShowOfHands · 21/03/2023 19:19

I don't crawl along, I do it at speed. Like a gambol. I also try and do two or three stairs at a time at a run sometimes. I'm v fit and it's a challenge. It's fun as well. Why not have a bit of fun in your day to day life. I also do pull ups on the door frame as I leave a room and jump over the garden gate.

It's just amusing. Get up enough speed when flying up the stairs and you can skid across the landing.

Love this about the jumping and that but I'm still thinking of spiders sorry xxx

IhearyouClemFandango · 21/03/2023 21:06

I just do it for fun, I quite enjoy it. I would only do it at home as it is clean and carpeted and only my family’s feet go on the stairway!

VivX · 21/03/2023 21:07

The last time I deliberately walked up the stairs on all fours was after a 10 mile bike ride and I wasn't physically capable of walking upright afterwards but I needed to get to the shower upstairs.

And slightly more recently, I accidentally did it when I tripped over my own feet, squished my nose on one of the steps and the forward momentum sort of propelled me up the next few steps on all fours, in a weird sort of stumble. After that, I didn't trust myself to finish the last few steps on two feet.

DecommissionedVag · 21/03/2023 21:12

I do it sometimes and I'm 38. Although it's because I have painful knees and I tend to do it when they flare up. It eases the discomfort of going upstairs.

Choppypog · 21/03/2023 21:13

Yes I go up on all fours. Have done all my life.
I'm 33.

Try weeing in the morning with a hard on, it’s harder than you think lol.

JarByTheDoor · 21/03/2023 17:08

There are adults who don't occasionally scamper up on all fours, just because they can (not counting those with disabilities that prevent it)? Surely a perk of being all grown up and having your own place is that you can indulge whatever harmless whims you like in the privacy of your own home.

Absolutely, but it would never have crossed my mind to do it. Seems like more work than just walking up (if you don’t have any disabilities).
