Do you know any adult who still does that?

One of my friends and his brother still walk the stairs in their house on all four.

They're both in their mid twenties.

They seem to think it's completely normal and everyone does that!

Is it?

Haha I still do this and I'm almost 40.

I’m getting exorcist vibes imaging adults going DOWN on all fours

This exactly.

itsabigtree · 21/03/2023 19:35

Yeah i do, it's so much quicker and feels like it requires less energy. I don't think about it, it's just how I naturally would do it. Obviously I don't get the inclination to do this in public as there, the stairs are usually much shallower than your average house.

DOWN on the other hands is absolute madness 😂

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/03/2023 19:40

I used to do when DD was little , slapping the steps with my hands to make a noise and pretend to be a bear .

Now she's 20 and I;m old enough to know better Blush , I still sometimes thump upstairs shouting " BEARS "

But not down, thatls weird !

Those of you who do this:

  1. Do you have a small backpack to take anything with you that you would have had in your hands - eg ipad or phone?
  2. How do you come downstairs? Backwards on all 4s or on your bum?

"Still would pull up a chair and start cutting my trotters in the middle of Tesco though"

You would? I hope you don't go to the same Tesco I go to then.

Hahaaaa woops! Forever wishing mumsnet would give us an edit button 😂😂

Hands and feet rather than hands and knees, on occasion. Only going up the stairs. In my 50's.
Some days walking takes too much effort.

charliegirl86 · 21/03/2023 19:44

No but I really want to try it now! When DH is at work tomorrow though not in front of him Blush

  1. It's just sometimes for a bit of fun. Obviously, don't do it when I have stuff in my hands.
  1. I walk normally. Or run usually.

I can't believe people are so baffled by a bit of whimsy.

They go DOWN the stairs on all fours too? Like a dog?

and how the gravity wont take over?? so you slide on your belly and end up with broken limbs or even neck??

Whyisitsososohard · 21/03/2023 19:48

I had really steep stairs in my old house. So I did this. It was a victorian terrace but my current house is too although bigger so maybe that's why it's not as steep. I like yo have fun where I can!

Spokentruth · 21/03/2023 19:49

No, that's weird. I slide down the bannister.

MerryHen · 21/03/2023 19:51

Occasionally do this going up the very steep stairs between our first and second floor, especially when very tired or ill and quite a bit when pregnant. House is very old, stairs are too narrow for a hand rail and it sometimes feels safer. Never done it coming down.

It's not unusual somewhere like the Netherlands where stairs are steeeeeep.

module · 21/03/2023 19:54

When transporting stuff upstairs on all fours, I place it 2 steps ahead, then catch up, repeat. Better than doing 2 trips.

Sit in a pillowcase and sled my way down 😂

MolkosTeenageAngst · 21/03/2023 20:02

I usually walk up the stairs normally but do occasionally go up on all fours just because it’s a little bit more fun. As far as I am aware there is no age limit on fun!

MrMarkham · 21/03/2023 20:07

I do this and I'm 43

Conkersinautumn · 21/03/2023 20:09

Up on two feet down on a tea tray. I wish!

Lifeomars · 21/03/2023 20:12

I do it going up my stairs, they are very steep and I have chronic pain in my right leg so this is by far the best and quickest way to get up the stairs in my house

Feelingittchy · 21/03/2023 20:13

I do it now and again. It's like a treat

Waitingfortaco · 21/03/2023 20:14

Sometimes I do this but not as the norm.
I do push off, lift my feet off the floor and glide down quiet aisles in the supermarket with my trolley quite regularly though and I'm 41.

JimJammies · 21/03/2023 20:16

Sweetomine · 21/03/2023 16:11

Both ways

You mean they come down backwards, like a toddler?

Awkwardsauce · 21/03/2023 20:18

Oh yeah I do this often, because why not.

Moser85 · 21/03/2023 20:18

I do this sometimes but only going up, it freaks my kids out if they see my head pop up at the top of the stairs 😂

Who goes down a stairs like that though? even little kids don't do that, they just bump down on their bums.
