Do your children look alike?

I posted a photo of myself with my sons on Mother's Day and had loads of comments from family and friends about how they don't look at all related. I have actually had a random in a shop ask if they have different dads.

DS1 is slender with blonde hair, green eyes, a dimpled chin, and definitely features from my Dad's side of the family.

DS2 is rounder with dark brown hair, blue eyes, a button nose, and looks exactly like DH.

Do your children have a family resemblance, or are they like mine where you would never guess they're brothers?

My two are very alike, boy & girl, 5 years between them, when youngest started high school, folk stopped them to ask if they were related to older child.

PuttingDownRoots · 21/03/2023 08:50

A lot of people can't tell mine apart unless they are standing next to each other.

Family struggle to tell childhood pictures of my aunt, my cousin, me and my DDs apart... they go on clothes.

Pair and pair no. But put the 4 in a line-up and yes very much so.

My oldest two don't look alike at all but my youngest one looks like a combination of both of them.

mondaytosunday · 21/03/2023 08:55

I don't see it but I've been told 'you can tell they are brother and sister'. My daughter actually looks the spit of my older sister, who looks nothing like me. Genes eh?

PotKettel · 21/03/2023 08:56

Very little resemblance - my dd is waif-like, pale with dark hair and hazel eyes - just like me. DS is sturdy, blonde, golden skinned and blue-eyed. I know his hair will darken at puberty like my brother’s and my dad’s. I rather enjoy this beautiful cuckoo-child, am endlessly fascinated by his blond hair and easily sun-kissed skin.

He is 100% mine and my dh’s but he looks so little like us, sometimes I start feeling insecure myself when MIL starts grilling me on “who does he take after then”.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 21/03/2023 08:57

Nope. DS1 is his dad's double, although his hair and eye colouring is more from my side of the family.
DS2 looks so much like me that the computer tags us as eachother.

Oddly enough they were the other way around as small DC. Mainly based on colouring though.

People have often assumed they have different dads, especially as I was a young mum.

Yea mine too. Oldest two don’t look alike but youngest resembles them both

MajorCarolDanvers · 21/03/2023 08:58

DS = fair skin, straight, strawberry blond hair
DD = almost olive skin, dark, curly hair

They look related but not alike

Wbeezer · 21/03/2023 08:58

Mine all look like someone took a mould of DH and made three copies just altering the colouring a bit!

IncompleteSenten · 21/03/2023 08:58

They do. People used to think they were twins. They look just like their dad.

Its me they look nothing like. You'd never guess I was their mother!

Daffodilfrog · 21/03/2023 09:00

Mine look quite different but if you looked closely you would see they have the same jaw and eyebrows ( my husbands)

StormySam · 21/03/2023 09:01

My 3 look alike and look like me (even though 1 of them has a different dad).
I like to think this is genetics compensating me as I have 2 younger siblings who have different eye colour hair and skin colour to me and no one can believe that we are related!

Makingamess4212 · 21/03/2023 09:03

My best friend had fraternal twins, one blonde, fair with blue eyes. The other bright red ginger with green eyes. They do not look related at all, just the way genes work 🤷‍♀️

Beccarecca · 21/03/2023 09:03

M 2 are 3 years apart but very similar looking. Teachers often call them each others names. They're identical to childhood photos of my husband but bear no resemblance to me! I look nothing like my siblings either, often joked that I must be the milkman's. 🤣

MyMumsOnMN · 21/03/2023 09:05

My boys don't really look the same. Different hair, different eyes, different build. Sometimes they will pull the same face and I think they do but at a quick look, no.

AndStand · 21/03/2023 09:10

No, my 2 children look nothing alike. Our daughter takes after her dad, our son takes after my side.

A friend of mine has twin boys. One is taller than the other by 5 inches, muscly, blond curly hair and blue eyes. The other is delicately boned, dark brown straight hair and brown eyes. Nothing like each other at all.

stepstepstep · 21/03/2023 09:11

DDs don’t look like each other at all and my younger daughter is the spit of her grandmother but doesn’t look like any of the rest of us. I’ve had people stop me in the supermarket to ask me about it when they were younger & both in the trolley! They have a very unusual surname (certainly the only ones in the school) and yet the teachers don’t realise they are sisters even though they are in consecutive years.

Favouritefruits · 21/03/2023 09:19

My two boys are three years apart and look like body doubles apart from the height difference, they also sound identical I literally can’t tell them apart of the phone.

LawksaMercyMissus · 21/03/2023 09:19

Absolutely not, two adult DDs, four inches difference in height, one boy shaped, the other very curvy but still slim, different colour hair. I've actually had people ask straight out if they had different fathers.

Newjumper2023 · 21/03/2023 09:22

I have one that is identical to me, one that has lots of features of me and sibling, and one who looks nothing like me or siblings. However does look like some extended family.

EddieHoweisMYmanager · 21/03/2023 09:22

Yes, often they’ll be squabbling and one will throw in a jibe about the others looks, only to get the response ‘HA! WE HAVE THE SAME FACE!’

They’re M/F siblings with a six year age gap in their teens 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Soes · 21/03/2023 09:25

No they look very different and DD1 is 7 inches shorter than DD2. I look very different from my sister and my mum looks different from her sisters. I guess we have ancestors who were attracted to the opposite of themselves.

Catspyjamas17 · 21/03/2023 09:26

Quite different body type, height and colouring/type of hair and also different, almost opposite personalities at times. Faces are quite alike when you look closely though.

herewegoroundthebastardbush · 21/03/2023 09:27

As babies mine were like bloody twins separated by 4 years - it was ridiculous! Now youngest is 2 the differences are showing - eldest DD 6yo is the absolute spit of DP, lean and tall with bushy blond hair. Acts and thinks a lot like him as well actually. DD2 2yo is very similar in the face but is a lot more solidly built, has lots of fine straight hair like mine, pictures of me as a toddler look very much like her. It will be interesting to see how they grow up, the similarities and differences.

Both of them are bloody gorgeous though 😍As someone with a, let us say, 'realistic' assessment of my own physical attractiveness, I can't believe I managed to have such utterly beautiful children!
