Do your children look alike?

I posted a photo of myself with my sons on Mother's Day and had loads of comments from family and friends about how they don't look at all related. I have actually had a random in a shop ask if they have different dads.

DS1 is slender with blonde hair, green eyes, a dimpled chin, and definitely features from my Dad's side of the family.

DS2 is rounder with dark brown hair, blue eyes, a button nose, and looks exactly like DH.

Do your children have a family resemblance, or are they like mine where you would never guess they're brothers?

Mine do have similarities but the younger two are very alike. Their voices sound the same on the phone too.

mumonthehill · 21/03/2023 11:20

Both dc look like brothers but they are very different builds. Ds 1 very tall and broad, dc2 catching up height wise but very slight. Ds2 also has super long legs!!

PrehistoricGarbageTruck · 21/03/2023 11:22

My two look very different. DC1 is a replica of DH when he was a child. DC2 looks more like me. They have slightly different colouring too. I don't think you'd pick them out as siblings tbh.

No, different fathers. Eldest child is the double of me.

Unicornsparkle1000 · 21/03/2023 11:25

My 2 both look like me so look alike, in my dd's school there is a set of twins, boy/girl, who totally don't look alike the don't even look like they are related, the boy takes after the mums side and the girl looks the spit of her dad. Weird how genetics work

usernotfound0000 · 21/03/2023 11:25

Mine look nothing like each other or like me and DH. I often say people must think they aren't ours!

BooksAndHooks · 21/03/2023 11:26

Eldest and youngest look alike and very much have their Dad’s side of the family in their looks. Middle DS looks nothing like them and nothing like anyone on either side of the family.

foncused · 21/03/2023 11:27

My DDs are 8 years apart and spitting images of each other to the point that it’s freaky. Since they were embryo transfers, it’s got me wondering if they are in fact twins! Does anybody know if a blastocyst can split prior to embryo transfer?? I can’t find any info on this at all!

BigFloppa · 21/03/2023 11:28

No mine look totally different. Different facial features and colouring. One is all me and one Is all dad.

Deadringer · 21/03/2023 11:29

Mine weren't anything alike as babies but became more similar as they grew. One is much shorter then the other two but they are share quite similar features, you would definitely know they are siblings.

BertieBotts · 21/03/2023 11:30

The youngest two are basically clones. You can't tell them apart in baby photos.

DS1 has different hair/eyes/face shape but he has a different dad.

HaveYouSeenNancy · 21/03/2023 11:32

My eldest two are almost identical, even though they're boy and girl and in their late teens now. Dh's Italian colouring and face but with my height and build (I'm tall and gangly). Youngest two (mid teens) are slightly less alike with fairer skin but you can still tell they're all siblings, my youngest is starting to look very much like his brother but with brown rather than black hair.

I taught two sisters once that it was impossible to tell apart, one year between them. I'm one of six children and in photos we're all very alike too, we have those 'Is that me?' 'No, I have that jacket, so it's me.' conversations when looking at photos. I love the different ways our family members show up in our own faces, it's interesting.

I think it can but I think you'd also know - because surely they would have e.g. 5 blasts and the next day there would be 6?

foncused · 21/03/2023 11:39

@BertieBotts I did think about that, but many of the embryos didn’t make it to blastocyst stage and I only know the final number that were frozen. It was a clinic abroad, excellent but with shambolic admin, and they refused to give us any information or paperwork without a fee.
Still, I assume it would be unethical not to tell us that two of the blastos are identical twins…???

SBAM · 21/03/2023 11:42

Mine are very alike, though they’re still young and I suspect they’ll start to differ as they get towards their teens.
I do think my son looks more like my brother as a toddler than his own son (my nephew) does.

I love looking at old family photos and seeing the resemblances.

Marymary987 · 21/03/2023 11:42

My middle two are 4 years apart and always looked very alike until the older one went through puberty. My iPhone mixes them up on younger photos on the facial recognition. They look like their dad. My oldest and youngest are more like my side of the family but are quite different from each other.

SparkyBlue · 21/03/2023 11:44

My two DDs are 6 years apart and in old photos where they are both the same age we sometimes have to take a few seconds to figure out which of them is in the photo. Three year old DD has often admired herself in a photo when it's actually her older sister. Same expressions and same mannerisms. Their brother is the image of my husband

BrainOnFire · 21/03/2023 11:45

Yes. I have two DSs and a DD. They are all tall and skinny (like DH, not me sadly), and there are some facial similarities too. The boys sometimes get called by each other's names at school.

Quite different personalities though!

OhSnakesandBastards · 21/03/2023 11:58

All 3 of mine looked identical as babies (B/G/B) and you can tell they are siblings even now.

Big gap between both boys and in photos of them at the same age I can only tell them apart because of what they're wearing or where the photo was taken. Most people can't tell who is in the photo as they look like identical twins.

However, none of them look like me or DH!!

Resembleflower · 21/03/2023 12:06

No are polar opposites, they have the same parents! Lol one fair green eyes the other dark black hair and brown eyes. Husband is from the Mediterranean. Oldest is my mini me and youngest his mini me.

OOmpityDoomipity · 21/03/2023 12:09

Theres two years between my DD and DS and their the double of each other. Same mouth, nose, eyes, lips and chin

MrsRandom123 · 21/03/2023 12:12

My oldest daughter and my son look alike. If people look at baby pictures of both (wearing a neutral colour like cream) they don’t know which one is which. Even now they look similar with 4 years between them. They look more like their dad.

My son also has a twin sister and they look nothing alike. She’s about 6cm taller (already different “build” to what my oldest daughter had at that age) she has darker hair & lighter eyes and everyone says she is my double. She looks exactly like i did as a child but nothing like my other 2!

Ricco12 · 21/03/2023 12:15

Two boys age 6 and 8

They look nothing like each other

The older boy is spitting image and younger boy doesn't really look like anyone ... must be the milkman's Wink

BigBagOfElbows · 21/03/2023 12:37

My daughter looks so much like me it's like I just cloned myself. My son looks like my daughter with a wig on. They look nothing like their father.

Gosh that is interesting. However I knew sisters when I was young that looked that similar - almost identical except a couple of years apart. Certain they were not IVF...
