Do your children look alike?

I posted a photo of myself with my sons on Mother's Day and had loads of comments from family and friends about how they don't look at all related. I have actually had a random in a shop ask if they have different dads.

DS1 is slender with blonde hair, green eyes, a dimpled chin, and definitely features from my Dad's side of the family.

DS2 is rounder with dark brown hair, blue eyes, a button nose, and looks exactly like DH.

Do your children have a family resemblance, or are they like mine where you would never guess they're brothers?

Me and my sister look nothing alike however. She is more like my mum whilst I look more like my dad.

Quisquam · 21/03/2023 10:07

DD2 is the female version of DS! DD1 looks nothing like them, but looks so like her cousins, that one’s wife thought a photo of DD1 as a child, was her husband! Spitting image of DH’s family on his father’s side!

troppibambini6 · 21/03/2023 10:09

I'm from an Italian family but grey eyes and dark hair and dh is English/ Irish with red hair hazel eyes.

Dd1 very dark eyes, skin and hair but double of me
Dd2 strawberry blonde, porcelain skin and blue eyes double of mil
Ds1 auburn hair, fair skin, blues eyes double of bil
Ds2 dark hair olive skin and blue eyes. I say he looks like me everyone else says he looks like my other bil.

Just as well dh trusts me with 2 kids that look like his brothers Wink

You know that filter a few years back on instagram that made a man look like a woman and vice versa?

I did not of then 16 year old ds.

As dd gets older, she’s morphed into it, It could actually be a photo of her 🤣 It’s uncanny.

troppibambini6 · 21/03/2023 10:10

Sorry but to answer your question no. All very different.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/03/2023 10:10

Very alike, look just like my husband.

SallyWD · 21/03/2023 10:10

I have a boy and a girl and they have identical faces! When we do those face swap things on my phone they look exactly the same.

finalwhistle · 21/03/2023 10:11

I don't think they do. Both fair haired but DS resembles my side of the family and dd is more like her dad.

Chessetchelsea · 21/03/2023 10:12

One of mine was the spit of me as a child, now their face looks more like DH’s. Another is a cross between my DF as a child and BIL, but oddly also has my face. I have a niece who looks like me and not like her mum or my DB. DH’s niece is a mash up of two of mine. If we take her out, people think she’s our third child.

Coffeeandcrocs · 21/03/2023 10:20

DC1 and DC3 look very alike which is funny given they have different dads. DC2 and DC3 have the same dad ( DH ) and they don't look at all similar in my eyes or DH's! DC3 looks quite a lot like my DF actually whereas DC2 looks like FIL. When he was born, I remember looking at him and going 'oh god I've given birth to Martin' 😁

Oochiewalla · 21/03/2023 10:23

My husband is mixed race. One child has straight blonde hair, lightly tanned shin. Other has thick, curly dark brown hair and a much darker skin tone. Both look just like my husband though.

RightOnTheEdge · 21/03/2023 10:26

Not really. I'm English and their dad is Brazilian.

Dd looks just like her dad, big dark eyes, olive skin, loads of thick brown hair.
Ds has pale skin, blonde hair and my green eyes. I'm not blonde though so he looks more like one of my sister's kids than he does me.

A woman who used to live near me used to say "Are you sure they've got the same dad? Ha ha ha! " Every single time she saw us! Hilarious 🙄😆

Highfivemum · 21/03/2023 10:30

only two out of my 6 look alike. I have a white blond brown eyes. Two golden blond and blue eyes. A dirty blond green eyes. A very dark brown and blue eyes. And finally a light brown and green eyes. On saying that they all have a feature of me, my DH and my DB. The two that are very alike are literally the spit of each other though 6 years apart.

Phoebo · 21/03/2023 10:33

Not my kids, but my sister and I. People don't even think we're related! We both have the same colouring but no features in common at all

Svolvaer · 21/03/2023 10:34

I have four children. Looks wise they go in pairs - child 1 (f) looks like child 3 (m), child 2 (f) looks like child 4 (m). Child 1 and 4 are very tall. Child 2 and 3 are comparatively short. The upsetting thing is that literally none of them look like me!!!

PositiveLife · 21/03/2023 10:36

One looks like her dad's mum, the other is much more like me. They have completely different builds but I think you can tell they're sisters because they have similar hair colour, etc.

Rockingcloggs · 21/03/2023 10:54

I only have the one child who incidentally looks EXACTLY like his dad but with a personality that is entirely mine!

However, me and my sister have the exact same face and eye colouring but I have very dark hair and she is fair but the contrast in our height is ridiculous. I am 5ft 4 whilst my sister is 6ft 3!

thesugarbumfairy · 21/03/2023 11:06

I don't think you'd know mine were siblings if you didn't know already. They have similar colouring, but they don't look particularly alike.

Pythonesque · 21/03/2023 11:06

DD and DS, both now practically adult, have a strong resemblence, not just because their hair is very similar. I suspect we'd see the same as others have referenced above if we morphed their pictures through photo filters. Except DD has my grey blue eyes and DS's are more greenish/mixed.

When they were little everyone saw DH's family features in them. But now DD's profile is exactly my mother (she's also closer in body build to DM than either my sister or I, as evidenced by old dresses etc that we wore briefly as teenagers before growing out of, that DD will have longer use of). One side of my mother's family does seem to have some strong facial features that are very recognisable. Somewhere we've got a very striking photo of my sister and I with three (significantly older) cousins when we were little.

ThreeRingCircus · 21/03/2023 11:10

DDs have the same coloured hair (strawberry blonde) and both have blue eyes but other than that they look nothing alike. DD1 looks very much like DH and is very pale and slender. DD2 is taller, stockier, darker skinned and has my eyes but other than that looks like none of us but looks very similar to her cousin (my DB's daughter.) Genetics are strange!

CatOnTheChair · 21/03/2023 11:12

Very alike here apparently.
I've been asked if they are identical twins ( 2 year age difference) and absolutely no issue telling them appart on baby photos.

lemonyellows · 21/03/2023 11:12

Not really no

One tall and dark
Other small for age and blonde

OutofControl3 · 21/03/2023 11:14

I have 4 children and yes mine all look alike it's quite scary 🤣 I do love it tho cab definitely tell who they are related too!

Neodymium · 21/03/2023 11:17

My oldest and youngest looked identical as toddlers. Blue eyes, freckles, blonde curly hair. Middle son also has blue eyes but has dead straight dark brown hair. He looks nothing like the other 2. Different build too. Wouldn’t pick them as siblings. My sister has dark brown straight hair and I have blonde curly hair. Niece is also blonde and curly like me. We always said like our babies got switched cause her dd looked like me and my ds looked like her.

Tessisme · 21/03/2023 11:18

Mine look vaguely from the same family. Not one similar feature, but when all put together you can tell they are related! DS1 has black curly hair, big round navy blue eyes and looks as though he's been on a stretching machine. DS2 is small and was naturally quite muscular until recently when he was diagnosed with a chronic illness, which has made him very thin. He has fair hair and grey, more oval eyes. But a few of the teachers who taught them in primary school said they had similar voices and turns of phrase. Not sure what to make of that ...!
