Do your children look alike?

I posted a photo of myself with my sons on Mother's Day and had loads of comments from family and friends about how they don't look at all related. I have actually had a random in a shop ask if they have different dads.

DS1 is slender with blonde hair, green eyes, a dimpled chin, and definitely features from my Dad's side of the family.

DS2 is rounder with dark brown hair, blue eyes, a button nose, and looks exactly like DH.

Do your children have a family resemblance, or are they like mine where you would never guess they're brothers?

My children don't look like each other, nor much like me or my DH. My son has always looked like my father (I look like my mother), and my daughter mainly looks like DH's mother and sister.

familyissues12345 · 21/03/2023 20:22

They do and they don't! Different dads, DS1 is mixed race so dark hair, skin tone, dark brown eyes. DS1 is blonde, fair with blue eyes.

However I get told they both look like me, so maybe they are alike...

My Son is 5 and Daughter is 11mths and they're identical and both identical to me

I have two daughters, different fathers. Typically both look like their dads, so whereas I dreamed of a daughter and a mini me, I have two and neither look like me.

One is fair hair, blue eyes.

second is brown hair and brown eyes (like me but yet the double of her dad)

No on had ever said they look alike which I do find sad, you’d never know they were sisters 😔

Veuvelily · 21/03/2023 20:37

My nieces are often mistaken for mine. My son looks a lot like me and my brother

SoAndSoSaidSo · 21/03/2023 20:39

My 2 look very similar. There are def differences. But they look very alike at similar ages.
Most noticeable one is head shape.

glowfrog · 21/03/2023 22:02

Nope! I have 2 girls - my oldest has quite pale skin, amazing blue eyes and strawberry-blonde / light brown hair.

The youngest is olive-skinned, dark-brown eyes and hair, much more like me (though my skin is still lighter than hers!).

But funnily enough the oldest is starting to resemble me a lot more in terms of the shape of her face, her nose etc and also personality. The youngest is more like her dad in those respects, too.

Same father and honestly couldn't look more different! Genetics are wild.

DinosApple · 21/03/2023 22:10

Not at all. Never have...
But if I look at photos from when they were smaller I have to look carefully to decide which DD it is.

takeasadsongandmakeitbetter · 21/03/2023 22:17

My two DS are very similar looking. I actually can't tell who is who in some older photos without checking background / clothes / events. They also both look ALOT like me as a child - and not at all like their dad!

Butteredtoast55 · 21/03/2023 22:17

Mine are similar but not wholly alike if that makes sense. There's a definite family resemblance even though their features are different
My oldest and one of his cousins are like peas in a pod however!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/03/2023 23:15

B&g 3 years apart. One blond, one dark, but strong facial resemblance. They look a lot like each other, but neither of them looks anything like dh or I!

CoodleMoodle · 21/03/2023 23:20

DD and DS look like each other, I think. I find that sort of thing difficult but can just about see it in them. You could tell they were siblings if you didn't know.

Neither of them look like me, or DH, or anybody else! Occasionally I'll see a flash of one of us in them (usually me in DD and DH in DS but sometimes the opposite) but it's fleeting. DD and I have very similar hair, I suppose.

But both DC and DH have the same expression when they're watching TV!

TheLostNights · 21/03/2023 23:24

Yes, both the girls look like twins and people always ask if they are.
I also know adult sisters who have 9 years between them and they look almost identical. People are absolutely amazed when they hear that they are not twins and also, the large age gap between them.

ChocAuVin · 21/03/2023 23:29

Mine are all clearly related, but somehow still not particularly alike. Not sure how that works Confused …They all take after their dad though — jury’s out on whether I just hallucinated birthing them.

They look so incredibly similar!!!! And they're different sexes as well, that is some strong genes you've got there.

SpaceJamtart · 21/03/2023 23:32

Mine do right now but I expect it will change soon
I have identical twin girls and a younger girl. The elder two are obviously the same and thats unlikely to change and they seem to take after me more than their dad. By being small and a little scrawny, their sister takes more after their dads side who are all tall and strongly built as she is a year younger but already getting taller than her sisters.
But they all have big dark eyes, and dark hair and eyebrows so currently lots of people ask if we have triplets. I dont think it will be long before the youngest is much taller than the twins- they have always been very low on the percentiles whears she is just above average.

ourflagmeansdeath · 21/03/2023 23:32

For me, they do all look alike but my eldest son and youngest daughter are the most similar, both their baby photos are almost exactly identical. As my youngest grew up she looked a lot more similar to my middle daughter. My eldest and middle look alike in the sense you can tell they're siblings but they definitely have different features.

thaegumathteth · 21/03/2023 23:39

Not really. Ds is tall and lean with blonde hair and green eyes. Dd is a bit stockier, browny coppery hair, olive skin and very dark brown eyes. Both same parents etc.

I don't really look like either of my siblings either though. Dh does look like his brother.

Sceptre86 · 21/03/2023 23:46

My eldest has auburn hair and light skin (for a South east asian) with very dark eyes. She also has a cleft on her chin. My son has hazel eyes and much browner skin, black hair. dd2 has very curly hair, it's brown and she has very dark eyes. her skin colour is somewhere inbetween dd1 and ds.I'd say dd2 looks related to dd1 and ds but ds and dd1 don't resemble each other much at this stage. I'm looking forward to seeing how they change as they get older.

piesforever · 22/03/2023 06:54

M/F siblings look very similar in that if someone meets them in school, they immediately know the other! Different eye shape, slightly different build and eye colour but considered really similar maybe due to their slightly uncommon ethnicity.

Kerri44 · 22/03/2023 07:53

That's me top left, daughter underneath and son on the right....I can't deny they're my kids lol...both got my personality too

MooseBreath · 22/03/2023 08:04

@Kerri44 Oh wow, they are just like you!

My DS1 kind of looks like me if you squint, but looks just like my brother and my dad. DS2 doesn't look like he belongs to me!

OP posts:
Gingerninja4 · 22/03/2023 08:10

Not really older two share same dad and look nothing like me or their dad .DS 2 is darker than his Italian dad .
One kinda resembled my dad but both resemble cousins on their fathers side

Younger two have same dad as each other and don't look like siblings, but DS 3 resembles ds 2 kinda of but a milk bottle version (yet differnt dad's )
Dd is a nope from me or her father but does resemble one of my cousins
Biggest laugh is my niece (not biologically releated )is the spit of me and people mistake her for being mine

NewHopeNow · 22/03/2023 08:26

Yes they do. I have a boy and a girl, ds is eldest. Dd is a smaller more feminine version of ds. Same hair, same colouring, same beautiful massive eyes. I always said I know what a daughter will look like and I was totally right.

thegirlyupnorth · 22/03/2023 08:37

My husband has twins and they are none identical and absolutely nothing alike but one of them is very like his older brother. Genetics amaze me!
