Do your children look alike?

I posted a photo of myself with my sons on Mother's Day and had loads of comments from family and friends about how they don't look at all related. I have actually had a random in a shop ask if they have different dads.

DS1 is slender with blonde hair, green eyes, a dimpled chin, and definitely features from my Dad's side of the family.

DS2 is rounder with dark brown hair, blue eyes, a button nose, and looks exactly like DH.

Do your children have a family resemblance, or are they like mine where you would never guess they're brothers?

Mine are literally identical apart from ones female and ones male 😂

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 21/03/2023 12:56

Both of mine look exactly like their dad. You wouldn't think I had any hand in their conception at all.

I've had people ask me if they're identical twins, despite their being different sexes, ages and heights!

SpideysMummy · 21/03/2023 12:59

Me and DH are quite similar as we have the same colouring, and similar facial shape and features so our kids had no choice really! DS is slightly fairer than DD but otherwise they are very alike.

Two middle ones boy/girl were like twins growing up, still quite alike, eldest and youngest look like 2 randoms I found 🤣 Youngest at least looks like her dad, eldest doesn't look anything like any of us🤷🏼‍♀️

Lastofyou · 21/03/2023 13:05

Such an interesting thread. I have four and I don't think they look particularly alike when they're altogether but Google photos often gets them mixed up in childhood photos.
DS1 - Tall, fair hair with reddish colouring. Very pale skin and very pale blue eyes (told that he needs to wear sunglasses in sun by optician as they're so pale!)
Definitely takes after my side of the family except for the height.

DD1 - Tall with very long limbs, very slim, pale skin, blue grey eyes, very dark brown hair.
She looks like DH and seems to have his Nan's height and build but him and MIL hair colour

DS2 - mini DH for looks but lighter hair.

DD2 - mini me but with slightly darker skin

I never think either the boys or the girls look alike but I often get them confused on photos.

sparklecrazy · 21/03/2023 13:12

My boy girl twins look nothing like one another!

elp30 · 21/03/2023 13:17

My sister and I look like a different parent so we don't look alike.

My oldest resembles his father (he has a different father to my two younger children).
My middle child resembles his paternal grandfather.
My daughter resembles her paternal grandmother.

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 21/03/2023 13:33

A friend is mixed race and kids dad is white.

Ds1: white, blonde hair, blue eyes
Ds2: dark skin, dark hair, brown eyes
Dd1: shares features with both ds.

Both boys look totally unrelated, dd shares similarities to both ds.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 21/03/2023 13:36

Mine look nothing like each other. You'd never guess they were brothers. Different features, different build, different colouring. And very different personalities!

Wine4whine · 21/03/2023 13:41

My DD is identical to her older half brothers.....the genes on DP's side must be strong lol

incitethismeetingtorebellion · 21/03/2023 13:43

I have a boy and a girl. They are the spitting image of each other. They look nothing like me or their dad

Ozgirl75 · 21/03/2023 13:47

Mine are nothing like each other and people regularly ask if they’re siblings. Even the sibling photographer at school said “this is for siblings only” which I think is a bit crap in this day and age of blended families and donor eggs etc (even though mine are full biological brothers!)
My eldest has white blonde hair and blue eyes. He has my eyes and I am fair (although not as fair as he is) and my DHs mouth. My youngest has dark brown hair and green eyes. He has my nose and mouth (even down to how his teeth came in like sharks teeth) and my husband’s green eyes and dark hair.
When you look at individual bits of their face, you can see similarities, but neither of them look totally like either one of us, or each other!

MamaDollyorJesus · 21/03/2023 14:00

Nope! DD1 is 5'8", dark haired, hazel eyes & olive skin whereas DD2 is 4'10", white blonde hair, blue eyes, very pale skinned.

stolis1 · 21/03/2023 14:06

I have 3 DC. Two have dark brown hair and blue eyes and are very alike. My partner and I also have dark brown hair and blue eyes. However, my middle DS has bright ginger hair. I've been asked if he has a different dad and even if he was adopted!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 21/03/2023 14:20

My eldest are identical twins that look like clones of their dad at the same age (although they have freckles and he didn't). They are dirty blond and blue eyed.

Youngest is 11 and very different. He's got olive skin and dark brown eyes which comes from my side of the family (part Greek) but not me, it skipped me Grin. I'm very fair like my English mum! Facially, he doesn't look much like either of us, or his brothers in pictures, but expressions are ALL me!

BertieBotts · 21/03/2023 14:26

I do joke that DS2 and DS3 are twins because their birthdays are just 2 days apart as well as looking identical, but there are 3 years between them.

dizzydizzydizzy · 21/03/2023 14:28

My two DDs have almost identical faces and the same hair colour. They have different body types though.

AutumnOcean · 21/03/2023 14:33

My son has very dark, thick hair, light olive skin and blue/green eyes.
My daughter is very fair, blue eyes and honey coloured hair.
Their facial features are so similar though!

RandomUsernameHere · 21/03/2023 14:35

Mine have very similar hair and eye colouring so people often say they look alike because of this, but facially they actually look quite different.

cheapskatemum · 21/03/2023 14:51

When I just had DS1 & DS2, people would comment how unalike they were & I could see their point: DS1: red hair, pale skin, light blue eyes, skinny, short for age. DS2: blonde hair, dark blue eyes, stocky, average height, tanned easily. I went on to have DS3 & DS4 & now people comment on how alike they all look. I think 3 & 4 kind of "filled the gaps": both blonde, blue eyed, one short, one average height, DSs 1 & 4 have heart shaped faces, DSs 2 & 3 have oval shaped faces etc.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 21/03/2023 14:56

You can tell all 5 are siblings when they're together. Dc4, individually, looks very different though. He's taken after my Dad more than the others. Dc3 is the most like my side of the family in general. Dc2 & 5 are very like Dh. Dc1 is my MIL & niece facially but with my build. I find it fascinating. I get recognised as my Dad's daughter regularly, in fact, shortly after he died I glanced at my reflection in a car window while passing & 'saw' my Dad.

jellybe · 21/03/2023 16:11

My boys are the spit of each other and when you stand them next to my daughter you can definitely tell they are brothers and sister. They all have the same dad and definitely follow his side of the family.

Ringmaster27 · 21/03/2023 16:15

My girls could be twins if the age difference wasn’t so obvious. Sometimes, I have to check the time stamp on baby photos to be sure which DD I’m looking at!
They both have the exact same big, brown eyes, the same wavy dark brown hair, they both have my ex-MIL’s nose. My youngest Dd is basically a carbon copy of the eldest 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 They are both more like me than their dad.
DS has the same nose as the girls, but other than that, he’s just a miniature version of exH. He doesn’t really look like me or his sisters at all.

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 21/03/2023 16:56

Yes, boy and a girl. Same eyes, hair and face shape.

PriamFarrl · 21/03/2023 17:18

I’m a teacher and have been at the same school for years. Generally when teaching siblings I can see a similarity straight away, but this year I have an unusual one. I’ve got a boy in my class (primary school) who is small, quietly spoken and generally shy. His brother, who is two school years BELOW him is a good two inches taller, generally more stocky, loud and outgoing.

The older one had a new coat on the other day and I commented on it. He said it was a ‘hand me up’ from his younger brother who had outgrown it!
