Do you put your toaster in a cupboard

...when it's not in use? I thought it was odd but thinking about it it would be good to have a clear worktop

Yes, mine only comes out occasionally

DownNative · 19/02/2023 16:10

A Northern Ireland Catholic here. I think we had ours out when I was growing up, but as an adult it lives in the cupboard as that's where my Scottish OH prefers to keep it.

20 years ago, I found it odd to do but I've been used to it for so long it seems odd to leave a toaster out! 🤣

HaveYouSeenNancy · 19/02/2023 20:18

Oooh, DownNative, have we just introduced Presbyterians into the Catholic/Protestant toaster debate?

BuddhaAtSea · 19/02/2023 21:02

Because of this thread I started watching the Derry girls 😂😂😂

When I had my kitchen done, we included an appliance garage. I love it. It has the kettle, toaster, the caddies for tea, coffee, sugar, the random herbal tea bag boxes, the nutribullet, the George foreman grill (on it's side, but easy to plug in) the toastie maker and the multi chopper thing.

It has a roller front and when I lift it, the toaster, kettle and nutribullet are permanently ready to go as there are plugs in there. The others I have to plug in as I want to use them. So much better use of space than a cupboard above a worktop.

Ooh I like the sound of that! Any chance of a photo please?

No, I’m not a Protestant. 😉

Derry girl fan?????

My toaster sits on my new worktop beside a big bowl

I don't really want to show mine in case anyone knows me but it was inspired by this:

And:
jollybiglive.ru/content?jolly=cz1pdHpheWFuYWtpdGNoZW5tYWdhemluZS52aWV3czR5dS5ydSZwPTIxNDE1NS0zNi10cmVuZHkta2l0Y2hlbi1vcmdhbml6YXRpb24tYXBwbGlhbmNlcy1wbHVncy5odG1s
Mine is v simple as it is just the two top cupboards holding tea stuff one side, then on the other all my flour and baking stuff, plus attached roll holder things for kitchen roll, tinfoil, cling film Then under the top cupboards, I have 2 metal roller blind things hiding the kettle, toaster etc. So you can roll the two bits independently. So some are on my counter, but there is no counter. It just looks sleek if that makes sense?

MyGrandmaLizzie · 19/02/2023 22:36

My parents did and they had plenty of worktop space too

TattiePants · 19/02/2023 22:40

Mine lives in a specially designed cupboard along with the kettle and coffee machines. They’re all plugged in and have pull out shelves when you want to use them.

TattiePants · 19/02/2023 22:43

@Polly1974 that’s mine on the right.

Do you put your toaster in a cupboard
Campervangirl · 19/02/2023 22:45

Yep, it's in a cupboard and sits on a tray to catch any crumbs that may fall out of the bottom

NotMeNoNo · 19/02/2023 22:45

No, use it several times a day and have hardly any cupboard space. It's not in the way where it is.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 19/02/2023 22:45

Same as @Snugglemonkey . Have a cupboard with a roller front. Behind is toaster/coffee machine/waffle maker. Sockets are in cupboard as well. Microwave in one of my built in ovens. Have a boiling water tap so no kettle-that is such a massive game changer.

Hmmthatsgoodchicken · 19/02/2023 22:52

Yeah. My kitchen is about the size of a small postage stamp. When we had a coffee machine even the kettle wasn't safe from the cupboard of doom.

Nopity-nope! OH isn't religious and certainly not Presbyterian! 🤣

Mistymornin · 20/02/2023 06:00

Ours lives on the worktop along with the crumbs.

Must get a tray for it!

Nice kitchen x

Passerillage · 20/02/2023 08:23

No, I’m Catholic. 😜

TreehousePine · 20/02/2023 09:10

@TattiePants that's a beautiful kitchen. 😍

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bloody love Derry Girls

Long before Derry Girls, this was discussed on a radio show (Ray Darcy on Today FM for the Irish peeps) and every texter who kept the toaster in a press was Protestant. Was very funny.

Anoisagusaris · 20/02/2023 09:37

Just realised I should have said cupboard rather than press for the non-Irish 🙈

Peachy2005 · 20/02/2023 12:13

This is such a nice thread: no trolls, no negativity, peaceful discussion of religious and non-religious differences…this is my favourite MN thread ever 😂
