Do you put your toaster in a cupboard

...when it's not in use? I thought it was odd but thinking about it it would be good to have a clear worktop

I binned mine and we use the air fryer Blush

To make toast? Why? Is it quicker and cheaper? Does it even make proper toast?

EasilyDirected · 18/02/2023 22:47

No, we hardly ever use it but have plenty of counter space and its beautiful (Dualit) so it stays out.

Yarnosaura · 18/02/2023 22:47

I have 2 toasters (one for gluten free) used every day and they're both on the worktop (opposite ends). Shuffling them about would increase the risk of cross contamination here.

Tailstock · 18/02/2023 22:48

I put mine in a draw just to save space! Tiny kitchen, my previous house we had a huge kitchen extension so it was kept on the work surface

daffodilandtulip · 18/02/2023 22:48

Mine lives in a cupboard and is used daily. It gets moved around on a tray for the crumbs.

I also have a hob kettle so there's nothing left on my worktops!

MakingTheVeganYorkshirePud · 18/02/2023 22:49

No, and if I did, I'd forget it was there, just like my poor toastie machine

OnSecondThoughts · 18/02/2023 22:49

I wasn't aware there was a whole ecumenical debate about this issue. Now I'm not sure if I should do my toast according to Church tradition or Sola Scriptura!

Starseeking · 18/02/2023 22:50

At the moment, no.

When I've completed my kitchen diner extension, all small appliances will be housed in a breakfast cupboard, so the toaster will live in the cupboard (plugs at the back) and never come out 😊

CornedBeefandCarnage · 18/02/2023 22:57

I keep it in a drawer. It's no more faff to put away than any other frequently used appliance, in fact the vacuum cleaner is the most annoying thing to put away because it always falls over.

MakingTheVeganYorkshirePud · 18/02/2023 22:58

Also, you can put potato waffles in a toaster, so it will always have a place on my kitchen worktop 😁

Topee · 18/02/2023 22:58

Ours is in the cupboard. I only have a kettle in the side as I don’t like the boiling water tap.

No, I’m not a Protestant. 😉

😂I am and I do

Meandfour · 18/02/2023 23:07

Yes. I don’t have appliances on worktops as I think they look cluttered. Our toaster is inside a pantry type cupboard we have along with the microwave.

MadamLeota · 18/02/2023 23:09

Catholic. It’s in the cupboard. Two reasons, one I don’t use it that often and two, the space it would go in is currently home to a mirrored tray full of different gins.
I believe the latter to be the more acceptable reason 😂

Cm078 · 18/02/2023 23:10

Yes. Only recently though.
I'm the only one who eats toast in the house and thats not often. Looks mucg tidier without it!

CrunchyCarrot · 18/02/2023 23:11

No, I keep mine on a window sill!

Wearingatshirt · 18/02/2023 23:11

I'd like to but the rest of the family won't agree. The other option is get rid of the toaster and just use the grill instead.

Champagneforeveryone · 18/02/2023 23:12

I dream of this but DH is a serial toast eater so threatened a mutiny.

We've compromised and bought a beautiful shiny Dualit toaster to placate me 😆

BooksAndHooks · 18/02/2023 23:12

No I have very little cupboard space as it is.

VintageThoughts · 18/02/2023 23:13

Yes. I put it in the cupboard to make room for the air fryer.

It's on a little tray thing so it just slides out, I use it while still on the tray then pop it back in the cupboard again.

LizzieBrooks · 18/02/2023 23:14

Yes!
Boiler tap and integrated oven/microwave. Worktops host fresh flowers and a fruit bowl and that’s it! 🙂

UsingChangeofName · 18/02/2023 23:15

No

1.I have plenty of worktop space
2.I don't want to be faffing about getting it out every time someone wants some toast
3.I don't want the crumbs to be thrown about the kitchen on a 2 or 4 x a day basis.
4.It isn't something I am ashamed of, or think I need to hide

EasilyDirected · 18/02/2023 23:16

I don't like bare worktops, they remind of kitchen showrooms, I prefer the kitchen to look lived in. We don't have too much clutter, stand mixer, toaster, breadbin, coffee grinder (no kettle because we have a boiling water tap). We don't have enough cupboard space to put them all away and the appliance cupboards wouldn't work with our kitchen layout as they'd cut the run of counter in two which would look weird.

mondaytosunday · 18/02/2023 23:17

Yes it's in a cupboard permanently. Like a larder cupboard. I also have a quooker tap, so only appliance on the counter is the microwave.

Oh I deffo wouldn’t faff getting it in and out. We’ve got a pantry cupboard with plugs in the back so it lives in there. I don’t have the energy to have to get it out every bloody morning 😂
