meaning he has received earnings, hospitality and donations worth more than £5m since leaving office six months ago

Yet we, the taxpayers, still have to pay his legal fees for the upcoming inquiry?

He could earn that in a few hours talking shite, but chooses to fleece the public instead.

🤬

"I'm asking you not to play it... don't play it please"

Lee Anderson - Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party demonstrating the sort of childishness that would make a child ashamed. A car crash interview demonstrating the power of local radio. Listen.

That interview is fabulous, it's such a fantastic example of Sanaks government encompassing is promise of integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level.

Wtf was all the sniffing, what's he got up his nose?

They really should have gone for Govey, Govey, Govey as leader.

Blossomtoes · 09/02/2023 10:38

Red herring I know but isn’t non payment of council tax already a criminal offence?

Can some one tell me what the odious Anderson said in that interview? I’m on a train without ear pods.

Notonthestairs · 09/02/2023 10:41

Anderson wants to be able to compartmentalise his lies from his new role. Seems familiar.

Notonthestairs · 09/02/2023 10:46

He's thrilled to be deputy chair. He doesn't regret anything he's said on the grounds that if they stopped criticising him he must have said something wrong (so lots of self reflection there!).
He doesn't believe any nurse or firefighter would ever need a food bank. He challenged the interviewer to find anyone in his constituency on £30k a year to need a food bank, then he changed it to £35k and when that was picked up on settled on £32500k. He wanted all 10 minutes of interview played with no cuts and that he'd only agreed to the interview as a favour to Hugh (?). He said if they cut it he'd never appear on their show again.

Notonthestairs · 09/02/2023 10:51

"Grim stats in @actnforchildren's report on work and poverty:

400k more kids in deep poverty (living on less than 50% of average incomes) than in 2010/11.

2.3m kids (16% of total) in material deprivation (lacking food/clothing or social activities)."

"Key point is that many parents with children in poverty face barriers to work or additional work which mean that can't be the route out:

440k kids in poverty despite their parents working full time

641k were one parent (at least) is disabled

232k where a child is disabled."

"It is not indolence that leads to such high levels of poverty but deliberate policy decisions.

Pensioner poverty has halved in the last 20 years - which is great - but child poverty hasn't gone down at all.

These are choices."

Bloody hell, he’s a piece of work. Did anyone see the footage of him with that guy Steve who nearly lives outside Parliament? He whipped his hat off and waved it over his head like a schoolboy bully. I bet he’d like that to disappear.

Damn it - I totally forgot to add that when asked about that video of him getting his mate to lie for him he suggested that everyone lies and repeatedly insisted that the interviewer must have lied at some point her life!

All very normal!

Notonthestairs · 09/02/2023 10:57

Come for the belligerence. Stay for him asking the interviewer if she's a liar TEN TIMES when she dares to ask him why he got a friend to lie about being a swing voter for Channel 4

He is a bully like Raab, just more open about it.

Another thing for Sunak to 'justify'

I presume that Anderson has been appointed in case Raab has to resign, to keep the quota of bullies in government up.
Oh heck, that means that there my be a job yet for my dear MP the honourable member for Riyadh and Moscow.

DuncinToffee · 09/02/2023 11:39

Rishi Sunak tells broadcasters that Lee Anderson's view on the death penalty is "not my view" or the view of the government but they want to "bear down on crime"

So two days into Lee Anderson's tenure as Deputy Conservative Chairman and the Prime Minister has already been forced to clarify that it's not actually Government policy to hang people.

Who is advising Sunak? Gove?

Roussette · 09/02/2023 11:41

Lee Anderson, the new deputy Tory chair, said “nobody has ever committed a crime after being executed”

Gosh. He's thick as well as a bigoted racist.

Roussette · 09/02/2023 11:43

Did anyone see this?

twitter.com/PolitlcsUK/status/1623400480364720129

Raab really does not help his "I am not a bully" cry. He looks positively evil

That clip of Raab.
Anderson also went down the road of blaming the media, saying they have misrepresented him, he's just saying what his constituents want him to because everytime he speaks they fill his email box with praise glorifying him.

Those pesky media people, asking awkward questions and then broadcasting the complete interview of him being a twat.

He doesn't want to risk contamination from contact with ordinary people, king Rishi does everything he can to distance himself from his subjects, the poor delicate little man could fall seriously ill if one of us peasants even breathed on him

L1ttledrummergirl · 09/02/2023 14:59

Integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level is on show here as well. The country can't afford nurses but apparently private jets are well within budget.

Nothing shows more integrity, professionalism and accountability than replacing nurses with plane rides.

A Telegraph article (hence the archive)

In a nutshell... these two paras

The Conservatives would be relegated to Westminster’s third party behind the Scottish National Party in a snap election, new polling for the Telegraph has found.
The exclusive, large-scale MRP poll of 28,000 people found that if there were an imminent general election the Tories would be left with fewer seats than the SNP. Stephen Flynn, the SNP’s Westminster leader, would be the Leader of the Opposition.

Is that not incredible to think... the Leader of the SNP would be the Opposition Leader Shock
If Ian Blackford hadn't retired/resigned, it would have been him if this Poll is to be believed... goodness me

itsgettingweird · 09/02/2023 15:59

Gosh - they really are losing voter daily aren't they.

Mind you having caught up and read todays shenanigans I can see why

Notonthestairs · 09/02/2023 16:51

Interesting polling by the Telegraph. I am not quibbling with their methods or the results but I do wonder why the newspaper would fork out to poll 28,000 people and why do it now?

Hoping to unsettle a few Tory MPs? Push them in to their preferred direction?

Martin Baxter, the chief executive of Electoral Calculus, added: “The Conservatives have been far behind in the polls for the last four months, with little sign of improvement."

Hhhmm correct me if I am wrong but haven't Labour had a steady polling lead for much longer than 4 months?

If so why are they specifically referencing 4 months? Oh yes because that's because that's when Sunak came in.

Interesting also that they mention that Reform win 6% of the poll and that their support stems from the Conservative voters - a suggestion to pick up a few more votes by leaning further right?

I suspect the Barclays/Telegraph are hoping to frighten the Conservatives in to welcoming Johnson back whilst they still have time.

Notonthestairs · 09/02/2023 16:53

Also interesting that its published in the same week that the Telegraph printed Truss' "i was right" piece.
